I don't have tons of free time myself, nor do I know anything about HTML, but I've got some suggestions to make. In order to let new quitters find this place we need two things. 1) an easier domain name that redirects to here. Personally I have no idea how to do this, but I'm never going to remember that Z11, or z11 thing I have to put in to get here now. 2) We'll need a front page. Nothing fancy, just something about quitting dip with plenty of terms that someone who is fed up with being addicted might type into google.

Thanks for getting this place set up....

Fellow quitters,

I have received a few phone calls today and several PM's as well asking about my opinion. While I realize not everyone wants to know what I have to say, I am humbled that my input is important to some of you.

I still am not sure what to make of all this. I see valid points on both sides. Until I can collect my thoughts and articulate them effectively, I'm gonna keep my mouth shut. I just didn't want you to confuse my silence for indifference.

During the next day or so, I will probably put some thoughts down on "paper" and post them here in the cafe (I believe this is an acceptable place to make such a post). Again, I realize my thoughts on the subject may not be important to some, perhaps many, of you. However, for those that have asked, I wanted you to know that I plan on sharing my opinion in the near future.

I will say this though, the most important thing is that each of us remain quit. today, we made the promise, "no tobacco today" and tomorrow we will make that same promise.

Stay strong, stay quit!

7iron,

as always, your post are well thought out (even if they are a little long winded :D )

Please make sure you also post your thoughts here. Many of the brothers on this site, unforunatly (wheres that dam spell check Remy?, are "suspended" from the other one.

I honestly don't think the majority of the guys here have an axe to grind. As someone said to day, just simply time to move on.

Stay strong and stay quit.

A little long winded. Come on man, give me some credit ... they can be extremely long winded. ;)

I wish I knew the whole story (well, I think so anyway)

The old site shut down when I was about a month into my quit ... that was handled in a much better way (on both sides). I feel for the new quitters who may not be getting as much help as I did early on. _

Hey everyone, hate to put a novel in here, but I just spent time I donÂ’t have writing a long PM to a friend. I figure that I can share with you all my thoughts from the PM that werenÂ’t personalized for the recipient. Just to make it more worth my time.

Let me begin by saying that I, myself, really don't have much choice but to be committed to QSX now since the administrator of the old board has indefinitely suspended my posting privileges because I had the nerve to thoughtfully oppose him since I thought doing so would help both new and old quitters remain IN our community. He, however, is the decider. This is HIS community. Everything that happens here is thanks to him. So, my objections are not welcome. The administrator defined my posts as "trolling," a term that could be slapped on just about anything he chooses, and told me I had 24 hours to remove them, and 8 hours to inform him if I would "comply." Undue pride on my part? I suppose you need to decide for yourself.

All that said. Even though I now have no choice, my experience has shown, choosing sides in this or not, that the QSX forum is a superior format, and I will spend as much time and energy possible so that it takes over as the scene of communication between smokeless tobacco quitters online. It does not exist for the purpose of spreading indecency or profanity, but rather it is built on a premise of inclusion. I do not see why people going through the torture and pains of nicotine withdrawal should be disciplined and/or banned for mundane instances of profanity or combativeness. Okay, go off on a racist diatribe against a member and you should be banned, call veteran quitters "fucking cocksuckers" and you should be helped.

Most importantly, it is clear to me that not only is the specific administrator of the old board not fully capable of making the decisions and handling situations as would be necessary to single-handedly lead a diverse group of addicts in withdrawal, BUT I do not believe that such a burden is fair to place on any ONE single person. QSX features a board of six administrators. I suspect that they will have disagreements amongst themselves. I also suspect that from their disagreements will arise solutions that will either be superior to what one person would arrive at, or at the least will be received better by the community. There will be no ad hominem bitter responses to decisions generated by a board of six people.

I might also add that the QSX board's administrators, so far as I know, have serious plans to direct new quitters to these new pages. Currently QS2 is the only source of board members for QSX. However, QS2 itself gains new members from a single link on a nine-year old low-tech webpage that must receive tons of hits because it is the only thing of its kind on the internet. I think the board of administrators at QSX will have fresh ideas and skill to put towards bringing new folks into the community. And get this, if those new folks feel uncomfortable about what's happening here, we can direct them to the squeaky-clean QS2. From what I've read and seen so far, there will be no attempts to censor links to the more formal board from here. QS2, however, refuses to allow the option of QSX for quitters who might feel more comfortable at a less formal forum.

Good morning....

Damn, what a messy week this has been and it's only Wednesday! Just wanted to say to you vets that may have read my post yesterday on the "other" site that my point of the post was to keep people from just totally bailing on that site because I do think there is a lot to be gained there yet even with the rules. I do not know the extent of what went down and I don't think a lot of other people do either, and I just don't want to see it die over there because there are a lot of good people on there that will stay. I just don't want to see people get lost between the two sites and think about it as "us/them". I've seen a forum divided and it caused a lot of bad blood on both sides and I just don't want to see it happen here with all the great people I've met here.

Many of you have been very instrumental in my quit and there is nothing I can say to you other than I owe you.

I'd love to participate on both sites but honestly just don't have the time to stay caught up in both and right now I feel committed to the guys in my group. I'm walking a fine line at work as it is with the amount of time that am seeking therapy in quitting.

Just wanted to clear the air. You guys are a wealth of knowledge and I still want to hang with ya....(mainly for babe flood friday). Just Kidding. :D

I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving.

Sounds more than reasonable, but don't forget us! Some of us aren't "allowed" to participate over there any more. In my case it was because I wrote long, thought-out objections to the "new rules" and was told that this was "trolling" and therefore illegal. Via email, I was given 8 hours to "comply" and another 24 hours to remove my "trolling" posts. I responded with a prompt fuck you.

Alright:

I called SOS a homo.
LWiki did not like this
Her and her friends stood up for what they perceived is a slight towards her
My friends stood up for me and against political correctness
It escalated
The next day Flav instituted HIS RULES
this caused further friction
The hypocrasy of some people really began to show
Things got heated
Flav warned us (WD, SOS, Rem, GMS, Loot, Aqua, Ldiddy) to stop and to tell him we agreewith HIM (I will post the exact email in a second)(Bold Guys are BANNED!)
Most of us told him to FO and he banned us

We disagree with his rules and his dictor like manner which he is ruling "HIS" site. This is a site without a "HIM" but rather a group of like thinking individuals (for the most part) who think Quits willl not always be pretty. (See admin list)

Gentlemen,
I am sending this email to all of you as you all seem to have an interest, either real or perceived, in the events that have taken place of the last week.

While I certainly respect your opinions and your right to agree or disagree with what was/is being done, I will not, and cannot allow any of you to become a disruptive force for the entire community.
Posting of comments to the forums that are intended to be disruptive and antagonistic is what is commonly referred to as "Trolling". It is commonly understood that this form of behaviour is bad form and generally disallowed and frowned upon with online communities as a whole. While I don't mind anyone sending me an email or pm to voice their opinion or objection, I do object to people posting these objections and criticisims in an open forum. Again, the intent being to cause dissention and to invoke emotion amongst the membership.
Trolling has never and will never be acceptible and will not be tolerated. Further, the outright and deliberate posting of the links to your "alternate" site within our forum is again considered Trolling and is not allowed.
It is indeed a shame that it has come to this. What could have been discussed and handled privately amongst ourselves has turned into fiasco that many member wondering what is going on. I hope you are all satisfied with the results.
Therefore, with that said, I am taking the following action.
Your accounts will be left intact for as long as you abide by the rules. If any of you continue to post derrogatory, inflamatory and/or disruptive comments, your account, email address and ip addresses will be blocked indefinately from the site. Furthermore, you will clean up any derrogatory, inflamatory and/or disruptive posts from the forum that you may have posted, within the next 24 hours. Additionally, any and all links that you have posted to your competing site must be removed.
I fully expect an email from each of you within the next 8 hours, to let me know your intentions. If I fail to hear from you by Midnight tonight, I will assume that you have rejected my request.

Well, that's interesting. I find myself in an interesting spot. On one hand I believe that people should be mainly self governing, as you put it "quits aren't always pretty", and that as loot has said "keep what you like and leave the rest". On the other hand, I feel intensely loyal my quit group, many of whom I don't (for a variety of reasons) believe will venture over here.

But all that being said, I appreciate that you'll present the entirety of your side of the story as opposed to leaving deleted posts and rumors (not) of bannings floating around the community.

As posted today at QS2 ...

Friends,

Over the past couple of days, I have received a few phone calls and several emails asking my opinion about the events of the last week. While I realize not everyone wants to know what I have to say, I am humbled that my input is important to some of you. I have thought long and hard about this; in fact, I have agonized over the situation (some of you know) and I'll admit that I still am not sure what to make of all this. Frankly, I see valid points on both sides. Part of me believes it would be prudent to continue to keep my mouth shut. After all, in order for healing to take place, it is important to stop the bleeding. I am aware that further discussion of these matters may postpone the healing process, and I do not want to keep picking at the scabs, but I also do not want my silence to be confused with indifference.

So I have collected my thoughts and believe that I can now articulate them effectively. Again, I realize they may not be all that important to some, perhaps many, of you. However, for those who have asked and for those who may simply want to know, I will share them.

First, I believe the most important thing is that each of us remain quit. Today, I made the promise, "no tobacco today" and I intend to keep that promise. I expect the same from you. Tomorrow we will make that same promise and be committed to keeping it. So above all else, stay strong and stay quit my brothers!

Let me also say that I value this site, the relationships that have been forged and the quits that have grown from infancy into mature commitments. This forum and the group of people assembled here have been my extended family over the last 7+ months. We share a common bond that I imagine to be similar, albeit on a much smaller scale, to that experienced by veterans in combat. We have fought together and beaten a common enemy back into submission. And yet the battles will continue. Other brave men and women will join our fight and they will need our support. They will look to us for encouragement, advice and camaraderie.

And we will look them straight in the face and offer them two choices ... QS2 or QSX?

I have watched from the sidelines over the past week or so during the storm that developed. What I've seen has been disturbing. There have been hurt feelings, misunderstandings and overeactions. I have witnessed knee-jerking, stubborness and pride that has blinded both sides. Two different factions at war with each other yet claiming to be fighting for the same cause. If we are not careful, this is a pissing match that will yield no winners, only losers. And who might those losers be? Not me and not you. We are already quit and we have gained the necessary tools to stay that way. No, it will be those in the early stages of quitting and those still confined by the shackles of addiction. They currently need and/or will need all the support available. Will we be able to provide the tools and support necessary to aid them in their time of need or will we be able to offer them only a fraction of what they really require because we are divided?

When I began my journey towards freedom from tobacco, I was terrified, lonely, completely addicted to nicotine, weighed down by a 1.2 ounce fiberboard can and yet somehow, I was cautiously optimistic that I would someday be free. A few weeks later, as I was really desperate, I stumbled upon QS.org and there I found what I needed to remain quit. The freedom I now have is very precious to me. I'm sure many of you feel the same way. We are no longer in bondage to a killer chemical and we have each other to thank.

What is the price of this freedom? Not just ours, but also the freedom of those who will follow? What is an addict's freedom worth? Perhaps a better question is this ... what would you be willing to pay, or endure, or tolerate in order to secure the freedom of an enslaved junkie?

I realize you have principals and sometimes you must fight to preserve your rights.

So now you may find yourself in a position where the rights and priveleges you once enjoyed have been taken away (or at least it appears that way). But what have you really lost; what has actually been taken from you; what price have you paid? Or is it more a matter of the unknown. How much more might it cost? Which liberties might you have to surrender?

Are these questions all that important in comparison to someone's life. That really may be the price here you know. In order to secure your liberties, someone's quit may have to be ransomed because we, as a group, have been divided and the help we were once able to provide has been diluted through division.

Please consider the cost of your choices. The decisions you make affect many people including me.

We all have limited time to devote to this war on smokeless tobacco. Our own quits are important and so are the quits of our present and future friends. I too struggle with priorities. Time has become my most precious commodity. My wife, my two small children and my career are important, but so is this battle against smokeless tobacco. This addiction truly does not play favorites Â… it will destroy anyone willing to participate.

The dilemma I now face is how can I effectively contribute to both forums. I am concerned that each of us will ultimately need to answer the question, "where will you hang your hat?" For some, this may be a conscious decision and for others, it may simply be that over time, as you post and interact, you gravitate towards one site over the other. I am not advocating that we each make a pledge of allegience in order to exclude the other. No, I believe that I am just stating the obvious ... we each have a limited amount of time to devote. For me, this decision will not be based on who I like more, but will be based on where my involvement will yield the most postive results. I simply cannot devote the time necessary to be the positive influence at both sites that I would like to be. While I anticipate being an active member of both QS2 and QSX, the majority of my involvement will be with the newer members of QS2. I have many friends at both sites and am hopeful that I remain welcome at QSX, but my involvement there will be more limited.

I am still hopeful that many, perhaps all, of the veterans I admire and respect will continue to be involved at QS2. I owe you all a large debt. While I feel horrible for having to make a decision like this and it is not my intent to slight anyone, I do believe it is the correct decision for me to make.

I had a little trouble signing on as "copewquitn" so took this name. Hmmmm, makes me wonder if I've been banned as one of the shit disturbers...

So I've had a little time to think about the last week of my life and all's I gotsta say 'bout it is....

Fuck it! Fuck it w/ a big ole donkey dick!!! And if that offends you, then well... fuck you too. (Kirk?)

I'm still quit, you're still quit so whatever. I feel kinda like a turd for instigating all the shit that went down, but ..... fuckit.

I would however offer this in reflection..... my only wish on this earth is to know that all the addicted souls who desire to free themselves of nicotine are able to do so. Whether it's here or somewhere else, all I really want is to know that all the lost souls have a place to call home.

All that aside I'd also like to offer a prayer that one day we may yet again become a unified community. QSX/QS2, Straight/Gay, Rep/Dem, Black/White, Male/Female, Christian/Athiast: does any of it really matter in this endeavour? No! I say no fucking way any of it matters! The only thing that matters is that we're here for each other.

Aqua/Flav... can't we all just talk and re-unite the community?

- Patrick

Sevs,

What a wonderful and, at times, painful post to read. Thanks for all of your efforts to try to bridge this gap with the kindness and thoughtfulness that is so apparent in your heart. I plan on talking with you much more about this in the future, and I am glad to have you as a friend.

That said, I am now committed to this new community, to making it stronger than the one from which it springs, and to soon bringing you to the realization that "here," not "there," will be the place where you can do the most good.

I did not ban any one person. I was asked by some to have their accounts removed. I simply suspended their accounts, at their request. I resent being blamed for these suspensions, while their bannishment was in affect.
Some have regard me as a dictator of such. As the QS2 site administrator I reserve the right to place holds on accounts that I feel are not of value to the community at large.
I'm sure most of you will agree that I was put in a position where I needed to act. Decisions needed to be made. I felt that the dignity of the homosexuals, woman with fat ass's and male members with small cocks needed some protection.
Some one has to make a stand for the little guy, fat ass woman, dikes, fags, and holy rollies. This is why it was necessary for me to step in.

FV said that no, he has not made any posts over here. He said it was okay to let you all know, but that he wasn't sure how many would believe it.

Anyway, at best, it seems pretty childish to me. At worst, in my opinion, this is the kind of crap that will continue to drive a wedge between QS2 and QSX.

Certainly you can tell 7iron to go fuck off if he can't take a joke. That's fine, but this just ain't funny to me. _

Afterall, do these sites exist primarily for our amusement and recreation or to help nicotine addicts secure their freedom?

7iron, fuck off. You can't take a joke.

Well, that was one and I assume you can take it. :P

I've already said that I suspect Ruxx for the FV impersonation because it happened right after he found these boards and it's definitely within his sometimes-taking-things-too-far sense of humor. I hope Ruxx doesn't mind me saying all this, I'm trying to "out" him since, well, a lot of things he does are offensive but we've also come to know that he's a good person.

On a more serious note, I'm growing more and more unsure about your concerns about a "wedge" driven between QS2 and QSX. From where I'm sitting, only able to participate on one board for "talking back" or something, this doesn't make sense. I assume at this point that you've read through all the correspondence that got me banned, and then some that followed. I also know from speaking to you that you don't really think this was "ban" material, or perhaps your opinion has changed.

The "wedge" was driven between members of QS2. This new board is the result. You're welcome at both QS2 and QSX. I'm only welcome here.

Back to work....

Yeah, Shit-spawn. I write way awesomer than that.

Also, does anyone else with Mozilla Firefox as a browser find it impossible to side-to-side scroll on this site. The new, gigantic emoticon box made the "add reply" screen" too friggin big and now I can't see half of what I'm typing.

WTF, man?!?!? How am I supposed to write some epic, vulgar shit if I can't see half of it? I don't want to have to go back to Slimbrowser or IE just to participate in this mega-node.

Could you possibly hide them so that they only show-up when you select "show all" from the "clickable smiles" box. They're too wide and they fuck with my display when I try to post cuz I use Mozilla and I can't do the side-to-side scroll on this site.

In other words, I'm very hesitant to post anything loinger than 20 character because I cant see what I'm typing into the text entry box.

Also, change the triggers for the emoticons to include ":" on either side of a word. I don't want a bunch of bowing peanuts to pop u[p everytime I spell w-o-r-s-h-i-p in my posts.

You mean like when you w-o-r-s-h-i-p G-M-S????

GMS, don't get too cocky about that last post....The smilies were praying towards Mecca and your name just happened to get in the way. That's right, you heard it here first: the Smilies are Muslim.

:ph43r: --this is actually a chick in a burqa...not a ninja like some would think.

The smilies that are drinking are not very good Muslims...I'll bet they eat the flesh of the dirty swine...Disgusting half-rat, half-dog beast.

This has nothing to do with dipping, but here it is. On Thanksgiving morning, my uncle had a massive heart attack. They put stints in his front 2 arteries and will do the same in the back 2 in a few weeks. The reason I am sharing this is what the doctors told him. If he hadn't took the asprin that morning when he started feeling bad, he would have died. Please keep plain ol' asprin around and use it. Take care all.

Yep, unfortunately, a bunch of quitters quit the site. Somehow their issues of being able to post anything they want, their own issues/language, etc. became much bigger than the purpose of this site, which is to give back to the newcomer and be here for the newcomer.

But people commited to recovery are still posting at other groups. You are welcome to come and post daily with us in my group - The Hogs - Feb 06. Hope you stick around.

- Patrick
I didn't know this was actually you until I saw the exact post in 0905 on QS2. I haven't been banned as yet, but I expect it'll happen today. I won't remove my posts. It's the way I feel. This is something that has been around, tolerated and encourage since I quit 329 days ago. Now it seems only select group of people will be allowed to express themselves.
As for uniting the sites, I don't run this site. There are 7 administrators, none with any more power than the others. I think it has to be that way. No one person should be able to dictate your quit. Right now, only 3 of the admins here are banned from QS2. I imagine I'll be # 4. I'm not going to call Dave names or yell and scream, I'm just not going to kow-tow to anyone.

Patrick, I have a great deal of respect for you. You are a great quitter. Could you have handled things differently when this all started? Maybe. Should you have had to? I don't think so. You stated your opinion, qualifed apologies were offered and they were thrown back in the faces of thos apologizing. Not by you, but by others. For a community to work, all voices need to be heard. At QS2 that isn't happening. And no, it isn't anything goes here. We are in the middle of setting up the rules and we've even drafted a constitution. GMS has written a kick ass draft that I think is going pass with little or no changes. But no one person is going to decide what is and is not acceptable here.

Stay quit my friend. But you're asking the wrong group of people to be understanding. If you disagree with Flav, you're not allowed on his site.

As posted in the QS2 Cafe:

3000 posts ... dang, that's a lot!

While I've certainly spent a lot of time at the keyboard, I gotta admit that not every one of my posts has necessarily benefitted someone. ;)

Many, many, many of these have been spent jabbering on about something trivial or worse yet, to obtain one of Cliff's Cohesive Units' numerous trophies. :P

Of this total, there have been hundreds of posts in the roll call of Team Independence and/or the many other quit groups here.

Some have been a call for help.

Others have been to lend a hand or to share some advice.

A few may have been critical, but lots have been encouraging (or at least that is what I intended).

So for number 3000, I decided on a story, an analogy actually ...

A couple of weeks ago I was feeding my two dogs, Heidi and Hogan. They get fed every morning and every evening and always know when it's time for their bowls to be filled. This particular morning, Hogan bounded and turned around in circles a couple times as he normally does (he gets pretty excited about mealtime). I put both dogs in a "stay", got their food, set it down before them, said "free" and watched closely as Hogan devoured his portion.

There is no possible way any dog could eat faster than Hogan. He does not chew; he inhales. He swallows whole everything he's given. Actually, I wonder if he even breathes as he eats. I mean, it looks almost dangerous, there is so much going down the hatch already, mixing air with moist kibbles could be serious trouble.

If Hogan could speak English, I'm sure he would tell you, "I love food!"

The thing is, I don't think he does. Heck, he doesn't even taste it. There is no savoring it, that's for sure. No, I think what Hogan really loves is satisfying his hunger. He craves food because that is how he quiets his stomach. He doesn't love food so much as he loves not being hungry.

I realized I'm a lot like Hogan. Our appetites are similar. Except his bowl of Pro Plan was my can of cope. I realized yet again, but in a different way, that I really don't want or need tobacco. So many times I reached for my can to satisfy my hunger. It didn't matter whether that hunger was based on lack of food, increased stress, boredom or some jubilant celebration of victory. My little can could satiate all my desires, all my hungers. After 24 years, the bad news is that I was confused at the core. I genuinely thought I liked tobacco much more than I really did. What I really wanted and needed were to satisfy some deeper cravings.

My mind and body got hard wired to reach for cope. The muscle memory of packing the can, opening the lid and plunging in for that "just right" three finger dip became ingrained. Do something over and over, tens of thousands of times and you'll eventually convince yourself you need it to just feel "normal". I've realized recently that so many times in the past when I thought I was enjoying a dip of cope, I was in fact just masking an unmet need or desire for something completely different.

I told many people over the years, friends and loved ones alike, that I enjoyed chewing and that I liked the taste. I believed that completely. Now I know that what I really liked was having a vast array of needs "satisfied" by the contents of a little round can.

Next time you get a craving for tobacco, ask yourself if tobacco is really what you want or is there something else. Do you really want a dip when you drive or do you just not want to be bored? Do you really want to stuff your face with tobacco first thing in the morning as a "pick me up" or do you just need more rest? Do you really need that fatty to enjoy mowing the lawn? Perhaps with the money you'll save not buying smokeless tobacco, you can hire a gardner? Is a wedge of snuff in your cheek gonna really help you deal with that irritated client, nasty coworker, screaming child, nagging spouse or do you really just need to find a way to effectively manage stress in your life?

Well, this 3000th post of mine has become quite lengthy. I think you get the idea even though my analogy way have started to unravel a bit. Thanks for hangin' in there with me until the end.

And Hogan, buddy, don't worry. You'll get fed tomorrow just like you always do.

As re-posted today at QS2 ...

Friends,

Over the past couple of days, I have received a few phone calls and several emails asking my opinion about the events of the last week.
7, I'm guessing this is your post. It's very good. However, there seems to be a lot of misconception about all this.

None of this is about the rules Flave posted. Rules are rules, good for the rules.

Flave did two things with impunity. Impunity: exemption or freedom from punishment, harm, or loss. I'm not saying you don't know what that means, I've just used it a lot and no one seems to be making the connection.

All the post in ACORD BFF were deleted. All of them. Flav told me someone complained and he acted. He did not look at all the posts. He told me he was at home and didn't want to click on them and take a chance his kids would walk in. I completely respect that. But why did he have to do it then. And is BFF so important to me that it's worth leaving the site. Yes, ACORD is the group I belong to. We forged it, came up with our own rules and had one of the highest numbers to ever hit the HOF. Who is Flav to say what we do in our group. If people don't like it, they don't have to come in, period. Like I said before, if someone is so stupid that they will click on a link they KNOW will offend them, they don't need to have a computer.

So, even with that being said, that isn't what drove me from the site. I could have worked it out. Flav took a side in an argument without hearing both sides of the story. He took one side, deleted or edited the posts of the "banned boys" and left the other side of the story free to continue whining. There was NO checking. The mods on the other site keep saying they can help, they're mods and they have some control. I was a mod. Flav didn't ask me a damn thing. He just deleted and modified posts. So, where was the mod power there? There are two sides of a story. To hear from one side and act is not right, it is not right at all. The answer to this I get told...........It's Flav's house he can do what he wants.

7iron, I know you to be a good man. Don't by into the "they didn't want to live by the rules" bullshit. It's a lie. I won't allow one person, ONE PERSON to dictate the rules of my quit.

I wasn't going to respond to your post, trying to put this behind us and move on. But you deserve to know the truth. Now I know, everyone over there thinks it's the stupid rules. 'bang head'

And besides, we have way cooler smilies. 'sos2'

Well, it was flat too sorta, like 15 pounds in it. But, I was at the house and have a compressor, so all worked out.

You know, when I seen it was flat, I didn't get mad. It's weird. I guess I really have learned to accept the things I cannot change. And to remedy the things that are within my power to do so.

Even when it's completely out of air it's only flat on one side. There's a bright side to everything. _

So true. Added air to flat to make it easier to get jack under axle. I could hear air hissing out so I had to move fast. LOL

On that subject. I wish to thank all those that supported me the past few days. I have no idea why the anniversary was harder to handle than the operation was. But having y'all here was more help than any of you will ever know. If I drank, I would toast each of you. Since I don't, I will just say thanks. I hope each of you have an awesome weekend. God bless.

Darwin Awards

It's that time again... The Darwin Awards are finally out, the annual honor given to the persons who did the gene pool the biggest service by killing themselves in the most extraordinarily stupid way. Last year's winner was the fellow who was killed by a Coke machine which toppled over on top of him as he was attempting to tip a free soda out. This year's winner was a real rocket scientist... HONEST! Read on...And remember that each and every one of these is a TRUE STORY.

And the nominees were:

Semifinalist #1
A young Canadian man, searching for a way of getting drunk cheaply, because he had no money with which to buy alcohol, mixed gasoline with milk. Not surprisingly, this concoction made him ill, and he vomited into the fireplace in his house. This resulting explosion and fire burned his house down, killing both him and his sister.

Semifinalist #2
Three Brazilian men were flying in a light aircraft at low altitude when another plane approached. It appears that they decided to moon the occupants of the other plane, but lost control of their own aircraft and crashed. They were all found dead in the wreckage with their pants around their ankles.

Semifinalist #3
A 22-year-old Reston, VA, man was found dead after he tried to use octopus straps to bungee jump off a 70-foot rail road trestle. Fairfax County police said Eric Barcia, a fast food worker, taped a bunch of these straps together, wrapped an end around one foot, anchored the other end to the trestle at Lake Accotink Park, jumped and hit the pavement. Warren Carmichael, a police spokesman, said investigators think Barcia was alone because his car was found nearby. "The length of the cord that he had assembled was greater than the distance between the trestle and the ground," Carmichael said. Police say the apparent cause of death was "Major trauma."

Semifinalist #4
A man in Alabama died from rattlesnake bites. It seems that he and a friend were playing a game of catch, using the rattlesnake as a ball. The friend - no doubt a future Darwin Awards candidate - was hospitalized.

Semifinalist #5
Employees in a medium-sized warehouse in west Texas noticed the smell of a gas leak. Sensibly, management evacuated the building extinguishing all potential sources of ignition; lights, power, etc. After the building had been evacuated, two technicians from the gas company were dispatched. Upon entering the building, they found they had difficulty navigating in the dark. To their frustration, none of the lights worked. Witnesses later described the sight of one of the technicians reaching into his pocket and retrieving an object that resembled a cigarette lighter. Upon operation of the lighter-like object, the gas in the warehouse exploded, sending pieces of it up to three miles away. Nothing was found of the technicians, but the lighter was virtually untouched by the explosion. The technician suspected of causing the blast had never been thought of as ''bright'' by his peers.

Now ladies and gentleman, the winner of this year's Darwin Award (awarded, as always, posthumously):

The Arizona Highway Patrol came upon a pile of smoldering metal embedded in the side of a cliff rising above the road at the apex of a curve. The wreckage resembled the site of an airplane crash, but it was a car. The type of car was unidentifiable at the scene. Police investigators finally pieced together the mystery. An amateur rocket scientist... had somehow gotten hold of a JATO unit (Jet Assisted Take Off, actually a solid fuel rocket) that is used to give heavy military transport planes an extra "push" for taking off from short airfields. He had driven his Chevy Impala out into the desert and found a long, straight stretch of road. He attached the JATO unit to the car, jumped in, got up some speed and fired off the JATO!

The facts as best as could be determined are that the operator of the 1967 Impala hit the JATO ignition at a distance of approximately 3.0 miles from the crash site. This was established by the scorched and melted asphalt at that location.

The JATO, if operating properly, would have reached maximum thrust within 5 seconds, causing the Chevy to reach speeds well in excess of 350 mph and continuing at full power for an additional 20-25 seconds. The driver, and soon to be pilot, would have experienced G-forces usually reserved for dog fighting F-14 jocks under full afterburners, causing him to become irrelevant for the remainder of the event. However, the automobile remained on the straight highway for about 2.5 miles (15-20 seconds) before the driver applied and completely melted the brakes, blowing the tires and leaving thick rubber marks on the road surface, then becoming airborne for an additional 1.4 miles and impacting the cliff face at a height of 125 feet leaving a blackened crater 3 feet deep in the rock. Most of the driver's remains were not recoverable. However, small fragments of bone, teeth and hair were extracted from the crater, and fingernail and bone shards were removed from a piece of debris believed to be a portion of the steering wheel.

Epilogue: It has been calculated that this moron attained a ground speed of approximately 420-mph, though much of his voyage was not actually on the ground.

You couldn't make this stuff up, could you?

AND PEOPLE JUST LIKE THIS ARE STILL ALL AROUND US AND CAN VOTE - SCARY, ISN'T IT?

My Cave.

I've been under a lot of stress lately, whether the stress is real or self imposed, it is there.

This stress led me to believe that things could be better. Things had to get better.
Just for this weekend, I formulated a plan. The plan was so simple it was brilliant. The plan would take a load off of my mind and make me feel so much better. One can. One simple can of Skoal mint longcut. Starting Saturday morning, I would just dip this one can. Once Monday rolled around, I would be feeling better and I would dump whatever was left in the can. Brilliant.

That first dip was good. Better than I remembered. The familiar flow of juice, the familiar burn. Even a head rush. Wow. Saturday is such a blur. Dipping is all I remember. If one dip got stale, I would replace it with a fresh one. It was like an assembly line. I didn't go to bed last night. I stayed up and dipped.

My lower lip and gums took a beating. So much so that I couldn't stand the pain of having a pinch tucked in down there. So I started putting the dip under my upper lip. Brilliant! I was able to continue dipping pain free and at will.

Saturday night / Sunday early morning - both are such a blur. I don't remember what I was doing at all, and I wasn't even drinking. I do know that I was in front of the computer.

I remember being jolted upright, staring at my monitor. I must have dozed off. I still had a pinch tucked under my upper lip. I repacked it up there with my tongue and spit the juices into the trash can.

This is when reality struck me so hard that I thought I was going to cry. What was I doing? What had I done? You have got to be kidding me! I blew my 320+ day quit. I made my way into the bathroom and spit out the dip and washed out my mouth. I went out to my garage and found the rankest garbage can and dumped the little that was left in the can on top of the fermenting garbage. I scraped out every little bit and made sure it too found its way to the goop in the trash.

I have phone numbers, but I didn't even consider using them. In fact, the thought never entered my mind until reality struck. I'm not sure I could call someone at O'dark thirty anyway. What would their wife say and/or do? By then, it was too late anyway.

I didn't know what to do. I still don't.

The next thing I know, I feel like I am falling. With a jolt, my eyes fly open, my heart seems to skip a beat, then beat faster than normal. I'm in bed.

It was a dream. It was a fucking cave dream at 321 days along in my quit. It was a dip dream to beat all of my past dip dreams.

Thank God, or in Elric's case, thank _________.

I don't know if it was the nic bitch messing with me and just deciding to kick me in the balls for old times sake, or if it was the stress (oh yes, the stress part of the dream was too real) and my brain, deciding to slap me upside the head just because. Whatever it was, I am so glad it was a dream, although I truly hate being jolted awake at 5:45am on a Sunday morning in which I am not fishing or hunting.

This dream, or better yet - nightmare, really rattled my cage. Maybe I needed it. Maybe I was getting too comfortable in my quit. I don't know what or why, I only know it happened.

The good news is, I am still quit. The bad news is - everyone be aware. She still lurks, our brains still remember.

Stay strong, stay quit everybody.

This post scared me. As I read it, I felt the anguish. I felt the solitude. I felt the pain. Then I got the end (you ass) and was relieved to see the outcome. Not only is this your story Rem, but it's the story of many other quitters. A surreal dream? Or a harsh reallity? We all come to bear that cross. What we do as a followup is the determining factor. Thank you for this powerful post Rem. And just as a reminder, my number is out there and it matters not the time of day or night. Take care my quit brother.

Today is a beautiful one. Nicotine free, and sober for the first time in recent memory. All the setbacks...all the mental anguish...all the down times, when LOOT felt like the only SOB on the planet...all the times LOOT flt as though he'd turned his back on his best friend...alll that stuff was worth every moment of pain and self loathing on days like today. The feeling of being totally in control of mind/body/spirit are the greatest reward LOOT can think of. Thanks to you all for making it possible.

Sincerely.
