I just joined KTC 2 days ago (April 10th) when I finally decided to give up tobacco altogether. 16 years (half my life) of chewing, dipping  smoking tobacco  I am so SICK of it. Enough is enough. I hate this crap  I hate the man I've become b/c of it. It's time to make some serious changes  actually live a clean life. As much as I desire to be tobacco free I have to be honest w/ myself b/c I don't think I can actually do it. And that is why I am here pleading for your help. If you have any words of wisdom to share I would greatly appreciate it.

Respectfully,

Air Force ADDICT

To paraphrase Henry Ford, 'If you think you can, or think you can't...you're right.'
Know you can, I know I can quit because I am quit. When you know you can, you have come to the right place.

Just do it.

Lean on us. Immerse yourself in KTC. It works.

Let us know when all your shit is flushed. And as soon as it is post roll with JULY 2014.

Read and digest the welcome center. It explains everything.

Great intro. Your problem is no different then 1000's of others that have joined this site and have been successful.

First things first. This will be the last time you say you don't know if you can. That is so far from the truth and it's the first lie you must overcome.

With the knowledge and accountability this site offers you can and will defeat this foe.

Go to top left and read what's in the welcome center. Learn how and why we post roll. Pay particular attention to why. You can keep your word for a day, right? That's all we require my friend. We beat the poison by using accountability, our word, determination and drive.

Start reading everything you can on your addition/nicotine. There is a lot of good information on this site. Look around, get acquainted. It's time to take back what belongs to you. Lets start with your dignity and integrity.

Welcome Air Force! The only way to be quit is to KNOW you can do it. You have to make the decision to quit and stay quit. There are lots of quitters on this forum that have chewed much longer than you and are quit. I only bring this up to let you know that you can do it. PM me if I can help and I'll quit with you.

You. CAN do it if you have the right attitude. Thinking you can't is not gonna cut it. We don't think, hope, or try here. WE QUIT!!! It's that simple. I was a 20+ year dipper with a few stops along the way. I also am a 13 year Air Force veteran so I get it. Get on board this crazy train and be quit. One day at a time is how we roll.

You will be tested with plenty for the next little while. It's gonna suck, then it won't. Posting Roll makes this work but you gotta be committed and do it daily.

"I don't think I can." Dude...unless you have somebody jumping out at you every half hour or so and conking you over the head, and then stuffing dip in your face...that's bullshit.

I don't think I can = I don't think I want to try.

Trust me. You can do this. We've ALL been where you are. I once told my wife I'd die if I didn't dip. I've now gone 50 days quit. I dipped for 30 years. I'm a goddam nicotine crack whore. If I CAN. You CAN.

Let's get this thing cracking, boy. I'll quit with you. Throw your shit away, post roll.

mb289,

Thanks for the advice man. I believe that I can do it but I just get those miscellaneous doubts that rock the boat. I appreciate your help.

Those things you are hearing challenging your decision to be quit is the Nic Bitch herslf. She will tell you whatever she thinks you want to hear. She will not give up easy and her words will sometimes make sense. Be very cautious on what she says. You gotta be strong in this. It is 110% attitude. If you have a quitting attitude, you will be quit. If you don't, well then you won't.

You will have to fight for it...this won't just be handed over to you, but the fight is worth it. We quit ODAAT here. Stay quit today AF!

AFA, YOU CAN DO THIS. YOU HAVE ALL THE TOOLS YOU NEED. YOU HAVE TO DECIDE THAT YOU WILL DO THIS.

The attitude that you have when you start any task largely determines whether you are successful. Fix your attitude.

Also, you're not using the word "can" correctly when you say "you don't think you can." Are you kidding me? You don't control your fingers? You can't keep your trap shut? Of course you CAN. You are capable of not doing something. What you mean is you don't "WANT" to do this. Different word...different problem.

If you don't WANT to be quit, you won't. You have to want this more than a drowning man wants air. You have to go whole-hog. You have to fight this fight like it is life or death...because it is.

Nobody can do this for you. Nobody can write you a note. It doesn't matter where you came from, how much money you have, or who your daddy knows. This is about you. This is about singularity of purpose. Say, "I WILL NOT PUT THAT SHIT IN MY BODY TODAY COME HELL OR HIGH WATER." Then, keep your word.

Don't worry about tomorrow, next week, next month, next year, whatever. We'll deal with all of that when it gets here. The only thing that matters is getting through today...this five minutes...nicotine free. Anybody can go one day, right?

Click around in the Quit Groups...not just your own, but a few other months and years. Then think, every bad-ass you see there was once right where you are now...and they're making it...day by day. They made it to where they are because they got the right attitude, they gave their word, and they are fighting like Hell to keep it everyday.

So, do you want it? If yes, great. Post roll, read all you can and repeat. If not, good luck with jaw/tounge removal and feeding tubes. Also, have you told your wife and everyone who loves you that you prefer nicotine over them? You should. Your disfiguring surgeries and eventual death might be easier on them if you explained that you realize addiction will kill you, but that you love Nicotine more than them. Read the Tom and Jenny Kern story if you want a better glimpse of your future if you don't choose to quit. Let me warn you...it is a ton of reality. When Tom's little girl is pleading "Daddy, don't go" at his feet as he passes...and this is happening while Jenny watches helplessly?!!! HOLY SHIT that was powerful stuff!!! Still think you can't do this?

You wouldn't be here if you didn't want to quit. You just have to get your priorities straight. Put being quit up there with breathing and you will find that YOU CAN DO THIS, BROTHA!!! WE QUIT WITH YOU TODAY!!!

I used Ash Wednesday of this year to attempt to quit. I used nicotine patches because I was scared to quit the NIC bitch. A bunch of bad asses on this site called me scared and a pussy - because I was, and because they cared. It took me 30 days to grow a sack of balls and take the patch off and be a man. You are a military man with 3 more sacs than I have, just do it, and I will quit with you today.

Day 62  I can't beleive that I've made it this long without dip. I am fired up about living clean. Never thought it could feel this good. Thank you all for the words of encouragement  help along the way. The craves come  go but the urges aren't what they used to be. 'oh yeah'

Accountability + Brotherhood = Success

Proud to see you fired up about your quit and living clean. 62 days is nothing to take lightly...you should be proud. Keep doing what you are doing and own your quit every minute of every day. Be prepared for the pre-HoF funk...just know it can and usually does happen in the 75-100 day time frame, and be on guard. Help your brothers watch for the same. Very nicely done!!

lightly7, gmann, Bradleyguy, slug.go  Smeds... What can I say? I look back to that first post here on KTC  I remember that addict. I didn't think it was possible. I was scared. So many failed attempts in the past. Didn't know if there was hope. Thanks to all of you for your support. This is a TEAM fight for sure. I appreciate you all more than you know. You have helped save my life. I couldn't have done it without you. And that's the truth.

Well said Slug.

Get back on that horse. Remember how much it sucked waking up each morning with sore ass gums? I do. And then being frightened and ashamed as shit when you went to the dentist? Yep, that too. Also nice having a few extra bucks in my pocket for pizza, tbell or spending on the dogs. There are countless reasons, find yours and stay committed.

This makes me sad.

And angry.

You didn't own it. Do you understand what I mean? You need to own it... not only the baggage of being an addict, but the baggage of being an ACTIVE quitter. For awhile, and it differs for each one, you need to be resolved to the fact that quitting and being clean will be work. You get that?

Work.

You gave up. Plain and simple... You stopped caring about working on being quit and that's why you failed. Explain it away any way you want but you got lazy and you were weak.

You cannot afford that.

There will come a time when quitting is second nature and it is what you ARE instead of what you're DOING... You didn't reach that point. It owns you still.

How are you gonna change that and be the master?

Own it.

Once you post in Jan 15' I will post each day with you.
How bad do you regret caving?

Own it.
I for one expect more from former military no matter what branch. AJ is mad and sad as are many others. I say thank you for reminding me that I am quit. Never ever will I succumb to the calls of the siren Nic bitch.

FU nicotine and FU big tobacco for claiming yet another victim.

Everyone else use this as a spark to reignite your quit flame not a reason or an excuse to become yet another bad decision.

I guess I'm with everyone else who is totally stunned. Usually you can see a cave coming. But I went back and read all of the posts you made, and I think it's pretty clear you know what you did wrong and how to get back to quitting. For myself I always think that if I caved I couldn't get back on track...hopefully that won't happen with you. Second time around don't use the 100 day mark as a milestone. Takes a lot longer than that for a lot if us. Good luck. Be a leader again.

Saw your day 4 and was filled with mixed emotions. Sorrow that you failed, yes you failed but glad that at least you came back. I haven't read through everything regarding your cave yet but I will. Since school started for the kiddos I haven't been on KTC much (for support) but I damn sure on every day to post roll.

You have digits, use them. Just never put that shit in your pie hole again.

Agreed ... nicely done AFA. I sure wish you had 174 more days than now, but maybe it was a blessing in disguise. NEVER AGAIN! You don't do that shit no more!

I second that, you learned from the past. A year in the bag is bad ass!

Definitely a quitter I would have loved to meet. Very influential I'm my early days of being quit. Will always be missed
