I haven't told my wife yet about quitting. I don't want to see the look of disappointment in her face if, God forbid, I fail again. I don't dip in front of her, but she knows. (Like a gay in the military, she doesn't ask and I sure as shit don't tell).
dude, that was 100% me. I did not till my wife of my quit till like day 25. I then told her if she ever wanted to know if I was dipping to check roll call. I gave her my log in info. I said if my name is on roll call I aint dipping, if you don't see my name, you don't have to ask.

I didn't have any fake for a few days and I think that's good. Gives us time to really hit the worst of it face first, then it can't get worse than that you know?
The drive home from work was always one of my big times to dip, and I have to quit every day i leave work, but my drives home this week have been really nice and relaxing(except for that idiot that pulled out in front of me on one of my worst days...)
TELL YOUR WIFE! You need to have accountability. If you're worried about disappointing her by failing, that's a good thing. First, it means you have a conscious, secondly, it means you have something to prove...that you won't disappoint her.
About the sores in your mouth and discomfort in your throat, count me in on that one. I was in constant fear...maybe that is one of the causes of your high blood pressure too...the constant worry over getting cancer. There, I said it. I hate hearing that word myself because I knew I was playing with a rattlesnake and I didn't want to get bit.

Get mad! Get angry, dude the tobacco industry is living high on the hog killing us.

Well, shit. Looked around for some Hooch or SMC on the way home, but couldn't find any. I'll continue the search tomorrow.

The drive home from work was actually tolerable, but what was brutal for me was just after I put the kids to bed (3 year-old daughter and 8 month-old son). I ALWAYS stuff my lip after putting them to bed.

I haven't told my wife yet about quitting. I don't want to see the look of disappointment in her face if, God forbid, I fail again. I don't dip in front of her, but she knows. (Like a gay in the military, she doesn't ask and I sure as shit don't tell).

I can do this. I WILL do this.

I'm tired of hiding in the bathroom like a 13 year-old that just discovered porn. I'm tired of justifying to myself "it's my only vice." I'm tired of trying to "research" and "justify" how this constant flow of nicotine does not contribute to my high blood pressure. I'm tired of worrying about every mouth sore, and every discomfort in my throat.

I'm tired of hiding this from my family.

Fuck you, Bear. And fuck you too, Cope.
Let me see if I can help you a bit here. Remove the words,if, try, fail, hope from your vocabulary. Replace them with when, will, success, can. Getting your mind right is a HUGE part of this. Get on this site and post your promise EVERY day. Then live up to your promise. Simple but not easy.

I used to get my SMC at a tobacco outlet by work. Not the best place for a guy to go but I would walk in get my fake and get the hell out. Wal Mart usually has some and if you just cannot find it in stores you can buy it online. Hooch is also available online.

I say tell your wife, tell the people you work with, tell the people at the C store. The more people that know the more accountability, and support you have.

You are an addict just like I am. Knowing that helped me !!!

Sing out if you need help.

4 big tests coming up in the next 24 hours.

The drive home from work.
Post-run (cool down).
Tomorrow morning's deuce.
Shower.
You will have tests every day. Many of them. You spent most of your waking hours with a dip in your lip. As did I. Your mind will need to re-wire itself, it suck, it hurts, but you can do it.

Read, read, read... best advice I can give you. Know what is coming and stay close to this place..

Oooh, thanks Greg, I may have to try that. The Wintergreen is a bit too sweet for me. Have you tried Hooch?
I did.. I was not a big fan of it. Many of the guys here were. Find what works, and at some point you will get tired of it and leave it behind. I have not had any fake for 30 days or so.

You guys just need to quit being wusses and just stop putting crap in your lips.  Just quit.  Man up, break the habit, jeeze.  It isn't that hard compared to stopping the nic addiction.  Just do it for goodness sake, pansies.  All it is doing is reminding you about dip so you think about it more often and have more temptation.  Walk away.  You can do it.  It isn't that hard.

I have just heard way too many people say, do whatever it takes to stay off nicotine. It is nicotine we are trying to kick here not an oral fixation.

This has been argued soooooo many times and the end result is....do whatever it takes to stay off nicotine.

I guess I am a wuss, a pansie and not a man cuz I used fake dip and I am on day 78. Maybe if I get 200, 500, 1000 under my belt using fake then I will not be a wuss. What do you think MS, is there a quit day we can be on without nicotine and still use fake that we are not pansies?

I mixed 2 cans SMC with 1 can wintergreen SMC. Took the sweetness away and almost gave it a tobacco flavor.

Hooch was better for the wintergreen but SMC I could buy local

I'm trying Smokey Mountain Chew right now, and it's just ok...a bit too sweet for me. I can't find anywhere that sells Hooch, I'd love to try it.

Thanks all. I'm loaded up on seeds and determined to have more success than I did yesterday.

Are any of you using, or have you tried, the non-tobacco dips (Mint Snuff, etc.)? During one of my previous Fails I tried Mint Snuff, but it didn't take the edge off like seeds do. It was almost like it tasted too good.

I guess what I'm looking for is something that will taste like, well... dogshit. I think the nic fits might be a bit more tolerable if I had something strong-tasting between the cheek and gums.

PS-to MikeA... I actually did fuck up my roll call. Luckily, teamgreen was kind enough to give me a heads-up.
I used a Mix of SMC classic and Wintergreen. I mixed half a can of each. Got pretty close to Skaol in taste and texture which helped me a TON in the beginning.

If you need fake get some. Whatever it takes to keep the real shit outta your face !! Nothing you will do today is more important than that....

Now get to quitting !!

Greg

Greetings, all.

35 year-old Houstonian here and dipper for 19 of those years.  Up to 1-1.5 cans per day now, and the thought of being a slave to the Kodiak/Grizzly bear for the rest of my life really pisses me off.

Quitting is easy for me.  I've done it several times (irony intended).  And each time I welcome the Bear back with open arms.

I tried cold turkey yesterday...  One guess as to the outcome.

I've read the "welcome" section, so I'll respectfully refrain from posting in Quit or Wildcard forums, but hope to do so soon.  Real soon.

Sincerely,

Slave
Hey! Get your ass in here! I am on day 60 and also was awful fond of Kodiak! I can tell you that this site is the only way I could have quit! You will find lots of support and some hilarious folks at KTC! Today would be a great day to start!
Thanks Martin.

This seems like a great place. I was practically in tears from laughing while reading the "100 reasons to quit" letter. Then I realized "Damn, I can relate to about 2/3 of these".
Go to the june quit group and post day 1 right now. You said quitting is easy so do it. We will not let the bear back if you stick with us. Dump that shit right now and be done. I am sure you have a big marathon dipping weekend planned around basketball...well guess what your bracket will still suck ass even without dip. So post day 1 right now.
F*ck it. Why not.

It's lunch, and I'm going to stock up on some seeds that will tear up the rest of my mouth.

BTW, my "quitting is easy" comment was tongue-in-cheek. If "past quit success" is this year's tourney, then call me Vandy.
Congrats Slave, buckle up and enjoy the ride, it will be the last time you will have to go through it. Remember every second of it.
This ^. Welcome aboard! Awesome life-changing, life-saving decision. Post roll and live by your word, and embrace the ride.
Kick fucking ass 'clap' 'clap' 'clap' 'clap' 'clap' this guy is awesome

and FYI, you can say Fuck in here, it's ok
What do we have going on here ?? Another new quitter... ?!?! Well welcome to the nut house.. Buckle up and get ready.

Drink plenty of water and juice. READ READ READ. I say that all the time but I am not sure anyone listens. There is more quit knowledge in here than you could ever hope to find anywhere else.

We have all been where you are and are ready to help. Welcome again...
Ya greg, he is even on roll call and did not fuck it all up.
I am not all that excited about that... I like a good roll call mistake.. !!!
