Day three of no dip...

I turned 48 in August, and I've been dipping and smoking since I was a teenager, stopped smoking in 2003, picked it back up in 2013 during a stint in rehab, smoked for about a year then went to vaping - stopped vaping a couple months ago, dipping the whole time.

On 12/31/14 I had my last drink and drug, my sobriety date is 1/1/15, that was tough as hell.

In recovery, I've put down a lot of stuff that's bad for ME, and picked up a lot of stuff that's good for ME - next "bad" thing to go is the dip (and nicotine, for good and for real - no more switching delivery methods). Except - :-) I am sucking on those 4mg lozenges to help get over the hump, I don't plan to use those more than a few days - until Friday. - EDITED - THREW THEM OUT AFTER SEEING THAT'S NOT WHAT YA'LL DO HERE

I did formal 6th and 7th steps Sunday night after I threw away my last empty can - cleaned up all the spit cups and emptied all the trash cans (must have been a dozen empty cans in my bedroom trash can alone since last Tuesday's trash day).

I've been going thru a five can roll of Grizzly Long Cut Straight every two or three days lately, I'm done, little voice is saying "enough".

I found this site googling "sore throat after stopping dipping", I have a few friends in recovery that are quitting too, gonna use the same tools we used to get sober and #1 is we don't have to ever do anything alone again.

Thanks for all the info here, it really solidifies my decision to quit.

I still have very strong cravings at 156 days into my quit. Not sure if its just me or not. I chewed for 35 years and hope eventially these intence cravings will end one day. I guess i thought after this long they would be gone. Has anyone else had the same thing happen to them at this point or is it just me.

You have 17 posts here, yet you are quit 156 days strong. That is the epitome of doing it by yourself.

Do I still have cravings? Sure. But they are gone very quickly and I have learned a few ways to make them subside.

The only real advice I would have is to get involved around here, talk to other quitters and read some of what has worked for others. Sometimes a text to another person is all it takes to shake that bitch off my shoulders and keep moving on with my day. Ain't got time for her dragging me down.
To remain quit requires focus

Hey guys,

Just a general question here, how many of you have used the fake stuff, especially early on? I'm on day 8 and feel pretty good (had bad anxiety day 5 but pretty good other than that) and I just started using Smokey Mountain to help with the cravings. I feel like it helps a lot especially during my long commute which is when I would typically dip but I am finding I'm wanting to do it all the time. Is that just the cravings coming on strong or am I wasting my time with this stuff?
Use whatever you need to! Keep that poison out of your lip. I used fake off and on for the first 50 days. I carry a tin of fake everywhere I go, at 282 days. ItÂ’s just another tool that keep nicotine away. I know a few use of their first few years, and some never use it.

I guess what IÂ’m saying, use it if you like. ThereÂ’s nothing wrong with using it.
Amen Batdad.

I think eventually the crave for fake stuff goes. Or the 'needing something in your mouth' goes away. It has for me. I used fake for a while, couple months. It just wasn't for me. I did use alot of seeds, until the DR. told me all that salt was bad for me. You'll figure it out Matt. What works for you.

Until then as BD says use anything you can.

I'm loving this site! I also vote for an iPhone/Android app of some kind. It doesn't have to be forum related, I think even just something that reassured you that what you're going through is reasonably normal based on your quit date. Maybe offers encouragement if you're really feeling the urge.

Anyway... I'm on day #4 of my last (and final) quit. I made it over a year the first time (about seven years ago), and then fell back in due to some crap that I was going through in life at the time.

I honestly don't remember it being this bad the first time. I think I'm less irritable, but am definitely feeling the other symptoms worse than I remember from before. I'm very fortunate to have a close friend that's encouraging me every step of the way. I'm not sure I could do this without her!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this site. It prepped me for my quit date and has helped me through my first four days (and counting)
Have you found the Quit Groups? That's the best way to tap in to the full network of support and accountability available at this site.

Welcome and congrats on your quit!

I have a general question. I've quit dipping for two months now and have tried the alternatives (Jakes, Grinds) and they don't do it for me. I was wondering if swedish snus is just as bad for you as american dip?
Snus is made from tobacco and contains nicotine.

This would be similar to asking an alcoholic if Miller Lite was just as bad for them as Jack Daniel's.

I'd suggest that snus is not a good alternative for american dip.
