Title: Let’s give it another try
Post by: Hill_Monkey on October 12, 2020, 01:31:12 PM
About ut 30 hours into another attempt at quitting.

In my mid 40’s and have been dipping since my 20’s.

My longest attempt was about 6 months.

The last few weeks has been stressful and I was going through two cans of Skoal straight per day. Was usually about a can a day prior.

Maybe it’ll stick this time.

With that attitude nothing will stick. KTC isn't some fairy site on the internet where people come to be magically cured of their nicotine addiction. You can wish in one hand and shit in the other and see which fills up first. Quitting has nothing to do with wishes or luck.

You gotta want this man. You have to come committed and be ready to grind this quit out one day at a time. If you aren't ready to fight this addiction daily, you are wasting your time and the time of everyone here.

So what is it going to be? You going to post a promise early each and every day and honor that word through thick or thin? Or you going to keep wishing you were quit but not putting forth the effort to make it happen? The decision is yours. Depending on what you choose, we are here to help but we can't quit for you.

@Hill_Monkey (https://ktcforum.org/index.php?action=profile;u=18543) ,

MNxEngineer speaks the truth.  It takes work to quit.  The first thing you have to do is admit to yourself that you are an addict.  All of us on this site are addicts.  We will be addicts until the day we die.  This site is built on accountability and brotherhood.  Just like it says at the top:  Brotherhood + Accountability = Success.  MNxEngineer is my brother.  I text with him almost everyday.  Both of us post our daily promise on this site every morning to remain quit from nicotine for the next 24 hours.  The process is simple:

1. Wake Up
2. Piss
3. Post your promise to be nicotine free for the day
4. Keep you word
5. Repeat Daily.

It is easy but it is hard.  It is going to suck.  You need to embrace the suck.  One day in the near future, it will not suck so much and you will actually start to enjoy life again, without dip.  As the days rack up, you will feel better and better.  Yes, there will be some shitty days in there as well.  The 200's and especially the 600's for me were particularly crappy.  But I kept posting my promise every damn day and I got through it with the help of my brothers and sisters on this site.

You can do it too, but like MNx said, you have to want it.  You have to want it for yourself.  This is one time when being selfish is the best method.  You can't let others influence your decision.  Make the choice for you and then do what it takes to stay quit.

I will be your brother too if you want to join us.

Your quit group is the January 2021 Pre-HOF Group.  You can click HERE (https://ktcforum.org/index.php?topic=16725.510) and it will take you to the group.  Learn how to post roll, and get to know the other new quitters in your group.  I will send you my digits when I see you post your first roll.  Interaction via phone is how we keep everyone accountable.  Yes, it will seem weird at first to talk or text strangers you met on the internet, but you will get over it quickly as you realize these "strangers" actually give a shit about you being quit and truly want to help.

So, now it's up you.  What's it going to be?  Are you going to grab our quit by the balls and join us here, or are you going to keep doing what has obviously not worked so far?

Chris 999 Days quit in a row.

YOU CAN DO THIS.

What's up Hill Monk.  Welcome to freedom.  I'd like to make a suggestion that might help with your quit.  I'd change your intro title from "Let's give it another try" to something that ensures you'll be quit forever.  "Let's quit for good".  I like the "Let's" part you have in it.  We are all quitting side by side with you.  This will be your last quit if you decide right now that you are going to quit one day at a time with us.
PM me for digits.

you shouldn't ever use that abbreviation ever again, @FISHFLORIDA (https://ktcforum.org/index.php?action=profile;u=7)

And you got this, Hill Monkey!  My parents used to have a monkey at their house, living in the woods in Texas.  Creepy, weird little bugger, no idea how he ever came to be there, but one day he'd just moved on.  You, however, should stick around a while!  ODAAT, get this done!

Developing a quitter mindset is so important.  I've seen members here state that posting roll every day makes them think about dipping too much - and then they leave and some of them come back after a cave.  I wake up every morning and the first thought in my head is that I need to be on roll.  I don't think about dipping, I think about quitting.  The best way to quit is to quit every damn day.

I quit with you today.  Stranger999 day 1868.

I have an app on my phone that tracks how much I would've spent on dip & how many cans I would've went through.

If I kept going the way I was, I'd have spent $66 & went through 16 cans of snuff since I quit.

That puts things in a better perspective for me.

I'm at 3,028 Cans NOT dipped at a savings of $19,955 (That's at a price from over 2 years ago).

That is a new car or a GREAT vacation right there fellas.

Imagine if you lived and chewed in California at $11-$13 per can, 3 cans a day. That guy made it over 990 days here before getting banned and then caved within a week. How can one afford to chew at those prices and rates?

Sorry, it was almost $22 per day. Compared to my $3.43/ day, I just don't know how you could afford that

That is good news.  Exercise will help for sure but remember to take the quit one day at a time.  I don't exercise every day but I get here and quit every day.   8)

Here's why last night was my first big test.

I know staying away from situations where you would normally chew is important in the quitting process, especially for newbs. I needed this in my life though.

Now that it's getting dark early one of the gun clubs I'm in holds a monthly night shoot. These things are about as much fun as you can legally have with your pants on.

Lots of shooting, suppressors, lasers, sometimes machine guns, runnin' & gunnin', learning new techniques, gear to look at. All done with helmet mounted night vision gear.

This event is full of guys who dip and I'd easily go thru at least a can and a half at past events, in my addict mind it the the awesomeness of this event even better.

Also, at the end after clean-up we'd sit around have a few beers & smoke a cigar.

Happy to report I kept my quit in tact last night and feel a ton better for it this morning.

If I could figure out how I’d post a few pics from past shoots.

With KTC and using the tools/methods here, failing a test of any sort isn't an option.

Post early EDD and keep your word.

@Hill_Monkey (https://ktcforum.org/index.php?action=profile;u=18543) you have found a way to be quit, at least for around 120 days. Isn’t that something to be happy about? You know if you continue to follow the process you will stay quit.

Thats a mindset problem. What did you do as a child when shit became boring? You did something else, sometimes those something elses were getting in trouble because you set a pumpkin patch on fire. Other times it was playing with lincoln logs or legos and developing your mind and mindset. Challenge yourself to be better.
I haven't been here for very long, but in this short time, I have been able to witness patterns of people that are getting ready to drop out and (probably) cave. Posting later and later in the day, coming up with reasons that they don't want to post anymore and then POOF they are gone in the wind like a silent fart. Don't be that guy.
1. Mentor a newbie.
2. Start a conversation thread in wildcard.
3. Post on other months.
4. Listen to RAZDs music.

Don't be the silent fart in the wind.

Good Morning Thunder Brothers ! we are all nearing our half HOF some are a couple weeks back but i want us all to make sure we tighten down our boot straps.

1: Decide- Decide that the pain and struggle of quitting is enough, and through that struggle you get the greatest gift of all. A nicotine Free life.

2: Plan- Plan what you are going to do on your hard days. Those days where the itch is so strong and your mind is telling you that the quit is just not worth it. A plan for when your crave is more important than your reason. A plan for days or weekends when your standing on the edge and thinking you have it thinking your addiction is cured. Lucky There is a Forum of dick heads some where to help with this plan maybe someone can point you in the right direction.

3: Begin- Begin each and every day WUPPing, begin by taking such a hard addiction off the table for the day. Starting is pretty simple, getting on roll is pretty simple. Begin trusting others that are holding a shield next to you fighting the same fight. Begin believing that you can be Nicotine free for life. And as you begin each day the same way , they same thought process, the same wave length you will be taking another step toward your own freedom.

LTBE Enough Brothers, "if you rest to long the weeds take the garden" always be working on your quit EDD, because when your late to roll or miss a day those weeds grow a little taller. Happy Thursday my Friends

i posted this in my group today hill. apply the 3 points (you hate quitting as much as you hate Dip ) does not sound good to me.
don't let your weeds get high brother man you doing great . Decide quitting is a must , plan to strengthen your quit, begin by changing your mindset. maybe shoot for a year as a goal i hear tough times are coming in that 200 funk. you will need the site and tools to continue on.

The novelty of my quit is gone, posting roll has become boring.
I hate it as much as I hate Skoal.
Thats a mindset problem. What did you do as a child when shit became boring? You did something else, sometimes those something elses were getting in trouble because you set a pumpkin patch on fire. Other times it was playing with lincoln logs or legos and developing your mind and mindset. Challenge yourself to be better.

Your quit will get stale if you only consume. At the beginning of our quits, we are focused on ourselves - keeping ourselves quit, making sure we keep our promise, protecting our quits. There comes a point in the process through where it becomes almost necessary to shift part of the consumption to giving back - mentoring new quitters; getting new digits; finding ways to give back to the site and others here at KTC.

Accountability is a two way street. And your quit will benefit greatly if you try to help others. Always keep investing in your quit through other people and the rewards will be tenfold.

Just highlighting something from your intro that might keep you going and staying involved here...   :)

He set himself up for failure before he even began. A mindset of "Maybe it'll stick this time" to me says "I'll see how long I can make it but I'm not committed to making this my one and final QUIT". I really hope I'm wrong but the people that are successful here don't hope things stick. We make it happen ODAAT.

I didn't start my quit because I "hoped" it would stick. I quit because I was tired of being a slave to nicotine. It's all about mindset.

We all go through tough times. But in those times it is especially important to use those relationships you have hopefully developed. Reach out, call a contact, text one of use. It isn’t the time to retreat and and fight the addiction alone. We ALL failed on our own. Don’t repeat the process. Use the tools and connections you have from being here at KTC. There is strength in numbers. Brotherhood+Accountability =Success.

Six months was two days ago for me and feeling really good without nicotine in my my life.

In fact, I have zero desire to put that shit back in my lip.

It's different for everyone, but the healing continues and you'll feel better the longer you go nicotine free.  I had rough days even after a few years quit.  The key is to keep quitting.  8)

Wow, 200 days of none of that shit in my lip. This is the furthest I've ever made it.

I know I've went through some dark times (not all quitting related) and probably sounded like a whiny bitch at times, thank you all for bearing with me.

I know there may still be some rough days ahead but I also know I have support to get me through those times.

Let's keep waking up pissing & posting, we got this. I quit with you today.

Pretty major win this past week.

We took our first ever staycation (week off at home) to update the house and do lots of yard work, etc.

I would've easily gone through two cans a day if I were still using.

The thought of putting that crap in my mouth never crossed my mind.

Here on day 243 felling pretty damn good, the though of putting that junk in my lip hasn't crossed my mind in a long time.

Also, On day 6 of no caffeine and the withdrawal from that is as bad if not worse than quitting nicotine.

To the guests reading, today is the day to get your freedom from nicotine back. Dump out that can and join us, you won't regret it.
