Title: New Quitter
Post by: Keith0617 on October 10, 2018, 10:36:05 AM
I am Keith0617, or Keith Shannon and I quit on October 5. Today makes 6 days and I will make the promise to quit again tomorrow. Live in Ellicott City, MD and have dipped off and on for around 35 years. Trying my best to learn the site and am happy to support any other quitter that could use a helping hand.

Welcome Keith,

You are off to a great start.  You need to find your January 2019 quit group and post roll.  You can find it here http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?topic=584.1140 (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?topic=584.1140)

There are instructions at the top of every roll post on how to post roll.

It is a very simple process but very hard at the same time.  You are already out of the withdrawal stage.  Now it is going to be a complete mind fuck for little while.  Stay with it.  Get some phone numbers of the guys in your group and any one else that can help.  Use those numbers whenever you feel the urge to cave.

1. Wake Up

2. Piss

3. Post your promise not to use nicotine.

4. Repeat

That is it.  Posting daily and early every day is price of admission to this forum.

Check your in box for my digits. and welcome to the rest of your nicotine free life.

chris2alaska 266 nicotine free days.

Welcome. Small world - I was in Ellicot City for a conference a couple weeks ago.

If you're on day 6, you are through the worst of it. The nicotine is out of your body, now it's just a matter of will.

Proud to quit with you.

Today marks the 39th day I am clean. I wouldn't be writing this without the help of my brothers/sisters. Learn from my prior failures and share your digits. There is power in numbers. Thank you to everyone that has assisted me in my quit.

Funny how things seem to work. Thought getting more involved and trying to help newer quitters would give me the kick in the pants I needed to recharge my quit batteries. Instead, feel like I receive a smack in the face. I know I can't quit for others but I don't understand not wanting the help.

Day 281 and quit

Some addicts just don’t want help Keith. I know if it were up to you, you’d have a hand in helping every single man and woman on KTC.. but that’s just not possible. Don’t let the duds bring you down.. move on to the next quitter that actually wants your help. KTC is a way better place with you down in the trenches helping your brothers.

Addicts will be addicts..

Basic Playbook for KTC:

Due to Amazon being sold out of copies of the KTC playbook, I decided to share the highlights of the cliff notes.
•   Wake Up Piss Post (WUPP)  – helpful to battle craves if you have posted your promise early in the day. If you have an issue posting your promise early in the day, reach out to a quit brother or sister and ask for a pickup. This shouldn’t be a common occurrence.
•   Wake up and repeat WUPP daily.
•   Exchange digits – every quitter should have numbers. Can every quitter be contacted by multiple group members?
•   Set a post deadline – example 1pm EST – be mindful of time zones – if you post late own it and acknowledge. You signed up for accountability. Brothers and sisters need to be checking roll throughout the morning to know if they are missing fellow quitters. If so, hunt them down.
•   What are you doing to help the group? Are you updating SSOA? Are you posting and ghosting? Do you track that your sisters and brothers have posted? Chase, Support, and hold each other accountable.
•   Build relationships. Everyone’s goal is to be nicotine free but it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t develop relationships. Strong relationships go along way in supporting your quit.

Feel free to reach out if you want volume II or check backordered copies on Amazon.

It is nice to have a few good days lately. Funny how the cravings come and go like the wind. Glad I have the knowledge to help me deal with them.  I sure don't understand how addicts leave the site and quit posting roll. How can they believe they are cured.

So today makes day 300 for being clean from nicotine. Hard to believe it sometimes. I only wish I had found KTC sooner and made the relationships that mean so much. Funny how I feel such a loss when an addict caves or leaves KTC because they think they are cured. What BS. I really appreciate all the members that have helped me so much. Funny I have also gained a bunch of knowledge outside of the addiction topic.

I am proud to quit again today with all of you...

Craziest thing ever. I new quitter I was supporting went batshit crazy and blocked me on his phone because he didn't like my accountability. He later unblocks me, I call to hopefully keep him quit, only to get cussed out. The final act after receiving a threatening text was to block him only to receive a PM were he hopes I get mouth cancer. WTF. Part of me is struggling to blow this off and move on. I understand I can't take it personal but I'm not sure how else to take it. I hope the guy stays quit and gets the help he needs. I just know my skill set isn't sufficient to deal with that.

Keith,

I wouldn't worry at all about that guy.  You and I both know he has some issues in the head and hopefully he will get treated for it.  All we can do is try to help each other out.  Unfortunately, some people do not like accountability even though THEY signed up for it.  We can only do what we can do.  We can't quit for them.

Do not let the actions of others determine the direction of your quit.

Proud as hell to quit with you Keith,

Chris

Funny how a little time makes everything better. Roughly 2 weeks ago I had some dark clouds floating around but the last few days have been great. I credit meeting up with a fellow quitter and getting my mind to get proper perspective on life. I can't wait for Sep 7-8 to meet a bunch of fellow quitters in PA. I only wish a few guys that have helped me so much could be there.

Hey Keith - VFMan here in May 19. Born and raised in Columbia, MD. Day 200 today. Saw your intro thread and that you live in Ellicott City. Small world. We all appreciate your active roll in supporting others. Some just don't want the help. Don't let them discourage you. There are more people that welcome the support than not. I quit with you EDD!

Keith VFMan is a great guy.  I've been supporting him since his day 1 and him me.  You two should exchange numbers and get together.  Sounds like you might be close enough.

Day 334 of being clean. Hard to believe. Roughly a month and I will hit 1 year. I am super excited about eh PA meet and greet this weekend in Philly. Just the periodic kick in the pants to keep me focused on beating the beast one day at a time. Life is good.

I can't believe I am over a year quit. October 5th will always be a special day. Funny how the first few months suck and move so slow that you feel the day will never end. It is a struggle. But before you know it, you hit the 100 day mark and the HOF celebration. If you are going to stay quit you don't really have a choice. Keep plotting along one day at a time. Before you know it, not only is your day count piling up but your days are also getting so much better. It is almost shocking how much better they become.  Then you hit 150, 200, 250, and 300 days quit. Learning you can only quit today is huge. Keep it simple and quit just for today and let the days keep adding up. This concept has helped keep the stress and anxiety down. I don't have to worry about anything besides posting my promise and keeping my word today. Now at 371 days quit, the days are so much better. One day at a time really works. However, word of caution. I will never be so quit that I can't cave. Stay loyal to your routine.

Thank you to KTC and everyone for their support.

Today is day 381. Although I quit one day at a time, it is hard not to look down the road and see 400 coming soon. Setting period milestones seems to work we with my addict brain. It really does get better. Keep quitting one day at a time and you can reach any milestone.

403 days of being nicotine free. Amazing how quitting ODAAT works. You keep repeating the proven process here on KTC and eventually you have a ton of days quit. If addicts could understand how much better they will feel and how sweet life is without being a slave to a can, quitting would be so easy. If day 403 feels this good, I can't imagine how day 504 will feel. I'm not in a hurry. I'll find out one day. Just keep doing the same old thing one day at a time.

Crazy dreams. I keep having dreams that I am craving a dip but not your typical dip dreams. Funny thing is I tell myself the same stuff in my dreams as I do when I am awake. No way am I going back to being a slave. I am proud of what I have done with the help of the site and my network or fellow quitters. I know one night the dreams will stop. I'm just thankful I am in such a better position to handle them. One day at a time. Keep chugging along.

I was were you are not that long ago. Knew I needed to quit but was afraid and also wasn’t sure I wanted to. Then I learned more about addiction, decided I chose living over my addition, and threw the can out and quit. Quitting nicotine isn’t easy, but the KTC way is simple. Post roll every morning with your promise to quit. Keep your word for the day. Repeat the following day. Today I can actually tell you I am so glad I quit. I am still an addict but I understand the addiction and how to stay clean. It is really satisfying to know I am not doing something to end my life early. Honestly, I am proud of myself.

You can do it and we are here to help you. In fact, I promise you I will be your quit assistant and help you every day. Go to April and post a day 1.

Hard to believe it is 500 days now. It was not an easy journey but I am thankful about that. I take pride in knowing I worked hard to reach this point but also know I couldn’t have done it without a lot of help from my brothers and sisters. The addiction will always be there but it is nice to know that everyday I am taking back more control. Thank you to everyone that has helped me. Wake up, piss, and post your promise to stay nicotine free for the day. Keep your promise. Make relationships with people that care as much as you should that you stay nicotine free to support you. Take time to help a few other quitters daily. The formula isn’t very hard.

Sign up and let KTC show you the path to getting you freedom back. You can quit and we are here to help you.

Sign up and let KTC show you the path to getting you freedom back. You can quit and we are here to help you.

Keep being the Rockstar Quitter you are Keith.  You are a pillar to many peoples quit.

Congrats Keith on half a grand!!  You are a constant source of support for me and for that I owe you more than I can communicate.  You are a quit stud and I'm PTBQWYT my friend.

Way to work Keith and I'm sure you're realizing that the quit life just continues to reap rewards, even in your second lap around the sun.  6 and 1/2 years in and I'm still reaping the benefits.  Congratulations! May it be March 14th for you on many more days to come

761 days. It is really hard to believe. After dipping for nearly 38 years, I never thought I would make it to this point. The knowledge I have gained on KTC, the support, accountability, and brother/sisterhood are the only reasons I am clean. I never realized the power of quitting ODAAT - One day at a time. It sure does reduce my stress and anxiety levels by not looking into the future. The light sure does get brighter at the end of the tunnel. Waking up, pissing, and posting roll is such a small action to take to go from actively killing yourself to prolonging your life. Thank you to everyone that has played a role in my quit. I couldn’t have achieved this without you.

Thank you so much for the daily support, Keith.  You are doing this the right way, and believe it or not... the freedom that you feel now... only gets better as time goes by.  You are a leader here, and are helping a lot of others achieve the freedom you've earned.  That is a beautiful thing.

Holidays are frequently a hard time for quitters. Easy to make a BS excuse to pack the cat shit back in your lips. Instead of doing that, use the tools you have learned about here on KTC. Reach out to your brothers and sisters and let them help you stay on there right path. Wake up and post your promise first thing and protect your quit. You will never regret quitting but you will always regret caving. Keep focusing on quitting one day at a time and let those days add up.

Our annual Christmas party was this past weekend which meant at least a can and a half for me while I while I was using.
Did not give in to the nic bitch this year, also first time in a gas station without buying dip in a long time this weekend.

Hard to believe today is day 900. 900 days of not having nicotine flow through me. 900 days on not having a dead plant in a can control me. 900 days of not doing something that will kill me. If you are like I was, you know you need to quit but are struggling with taking the first step. Just do it. Jump in, buy into the system, and let the days add up one day at a time. While I’m still an addict, I am not controlled by the drug -  nicotine. The only regret I have is I didn’t make the decision sooner. Join us today and start saving your life too.

Keith0617 day 900 and counting.

1108 days of not killing myself with nicotine. That’s a little over 3 years. I know I couldn’t have done it without KTC and the accountability from my brothers and sisters that I have met here. I only wish I would have met more in person by now. Highly recommend you take advantage and meet up with fellow quitters at every opportunity.

My son asked me the other day how I felt about making 3 years and I have been giving it a lot of thought. I am extremely proud of making it this far. At the same time, I am extremely humble by posting roll here daily with quitters that are many quit years ahead of me. Their example of posting one day at a time and letting the days add up is something I have really bought into. When I think about it, I hope to live for several more decades. Some might think that makes my 3 years a drop in the bucket. I disagree. What I take from it if I keeping doing the things that way worked for 3 years, why want they continue to work for several more decades? I still struggle from time to time but it is nothing compared to the early days. In fact, I never thought quitting could be this good.

Here are a few parting thoughts. If you are still using nicotine, STOP. Living life nicotine free is so much better that supporting a fat lip and spitting all over the place. Don’t keep putting off a decision that will save your life. If you have made the decision to quit, congratulations. Make your quitting a priority every single day. Wake up and post your promise to stay nicotine free for the day first thing. Develop some relationships with fellow quitters and interact with them on a semi regular basis. Get to know them and let them know you. You want to few quitters in your corner that care as much or more about your quit as you should care about your quit. Never forget we are addicts and nicotine is our drug. One bad decision and you are under her control again. Don’t risk it. Don’t become complacent. If you make your quit a priority first thing everyday, it doesn’t matter how busy the day gets and it frees up your time to spend with the ones that mean the most to you.

Thank you to everyone that has helped get me. I hope you will continue supporting me.

Keith

Quitting dip one day at a time is my proudest accomplishment. It is so much easier to do when you have others holding you accountable and you are holding them accountable as well. Stop trying to quit the same old way that hasn’t worked for you. Take a different approach so you can expect a different result this time.

1331 days. It is amazing how much better life is not being a slave to nicotine anymore. I still get the occasional reminder that  my old friend nicotine still wants be back. Funny thing is, i really don’t want dipping being a part of my life again. I will chew a piece of gum or put in a dip of the fake stuff if I really get cravings. But normally, I laugh the urge away. Things have been this way for a good period of time which amazes me. To think you can do an action, dipping, that could kill you for decades, but if you buy into the the program and quit with the help of KTC, the sisterhood, the brotherhood, and the resources the site offers, you can have total freedom, not to mention better health, in a relatively short period of time. I want lie. It sucks really bad for a while. But quitting with others makes it sooooooo much easier. Join us. Aren’t you with it?

When is enough enough? You are taking a action daily to end your life. If you had a friend addicted to drugs wouldn’t you ask them to seek help? We are all addicted to a drug on this site, nicotine. We are addicts. That will never change. However, by joining us and taking steps to safe your life vs shortening it, you too can take back control of your life. It will suck for a while , but nothing important comes easy. Stop playing a game with your life and start saving it. There are 1000’s of quitters on KTC that prove the system works. Start saving your life. To do so, click on the Discord header, 3rd from the right, on the top of the page. Hope to see you posting soon.

Today is day 1414 of being clean. It is funny if you will just quit for one day and then repeat the routine the following day, the days sure do add up fast. Quitting does suck for a while, but that makes sense. How can you put a drug in your system for years and then your body not struggle when you remove it? However, the suck is soooo worth it in the long run. I can live my life without panicking if I have my next dip with me. Golfing, fishing, or hanging with family, I can live my life and focus on the things important to me, not dip.

I have recently lost a few friends. Life is short. Why continue to do something that will shorten it? Quit today and start to take you life back. The gift of freedom is so worth the relatively short period of suck. Time to make a decision.

Posting our promise is something we should do first thing everyday to protect our quit. It is not a process of just typing a number. It caries the same weight as if I knocked on your front door, looked you in the eye, and gave you my word I would not use nicotine day. Your level of integrity determines what happens next. Either staying quit or caving and there is never an excuse for caving.

Day 1505. Just got home from the dentist and it dawned on me. Isn't it funny how I am not scared to go to the dentist anymore. In fact, I get compliments. If you are still deciding when to quit, because we both already know you need to quit, today is the day. Not next week, or December 1, or next year. Start saving your life today. If the cravings that come with quitting for a while are too much, how the hell are we going to handle chemo and radiation? It isn't a game anymore about do you want to quit, it is facing reality that you have to quit if you choose life. Quitting sucks for a while, and it does suck. But eventually you start seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Quitting with others also makes it so muck easier. Quitting does take work but you can do it. There are zillions of fellow quitters here on KTC/Discord that will help you. Only thing left is for you to finally make the decision to quit.

Day 1530 of being clean from nicotine. Today is also my son’s birthday. I give him much of the credit for me being quit today. After dipping for nearly 38 years, and multiple failed attempts at quitting, I once again announced that I was quitting dipping. My family just looked and me and then my son asked why he should believe me. He had heard the line many many times before. Said I needed to try quitting differently if I was hoping for a different result. How I kept trying to quit just wasn’t working. That conversation led to doing some googling and that’s when I found KTC. My son was correct. Quitting with KTC has led to a different result and has been easier than any other attempt. Posting my promise first thing daily to stay nicotine just for the day is something I can do. I don’t worry about tomorrow, next week, and definitely don’t worry about forever. I just promise not to have nicotine today. I can do anything for 1 day. However, it wasn’t always easy to make it though the day. That is were the sister/brotherhood comes to play. I made connections, and in some cases friendships, that when I needed accountability and support, I would text or call my network of quitters and they were always there to support me. I learned that quitting with others is soooooo much easier that quitting alone.

There isn’t a better day than today to start taking back control of your life. It does suck for a while. But quitting ODAAT - one day at a time, and letting the days add up, it doesn’t take too long before you start to see light at the end of the tunnel. Day 1,703 of being nicotine free. Once you sign up and by into the program of waking up and posting your promise to stay nicotine free just for the day and exchanging digits and getting to know a few fellow quitters, it is amazing how much easier is it to actually quit. We all failed on our own, why not try a different approach? Quitting with others really helped me. You may not want to quit today. I understand how the addict brain works, but you know you should. Isn’t time to stop doing something that will kill you?

Day 1731. Got to go to the dentist yesterday. Everything went great. Funny how I used to be scared to go and at times blow off the dentist because I was afraid of what they might say. Now they congratulate me on quitting and remind me to floss a little more regularly.

5 years of being nicotine free. I didn’t wake up years ago and say I want to quit. Instead, I finally decided had to quit. I chose life and living over doing something that would kill me. It was the best decision I could ever make. Isn’t it time for you to make the same decision? Isn’t your life worth it? Quitting does suck for a while. But quitting with others and buying into the program makes it sooooooo much easier than trying to quit alone. I dipped for the majority of my life and had a dip in almost all day everyday. You can do this.

Congratulations on 5 years free of the devil dirt we used to stuff in our lips. I’m only 131 days out and unfortunately I’m still struggling but I really look up to you veterans to get me through this journey. So far I have endured some of the most powerful cravings but I refuse to cave. If I didn’t cave I would have had 18 years this coming November 10th.
We cannot change the past but we can definitely control our future and I cannot see myself with a dip in my lip ever again. Congratulations my friend.

1900 days of not doing something that will eventually either kill you or severely damage your health. There are a ton of us who haven’t paid the price for stuffing a cancer causing dead plant into our lips. We are extremely fortunate. We were so hooked that we still justified doing it even when we learned the consequences.

I can tell you quitting with others here on KTC has been much easier than it ever was on my own. Having a network of quitter that I can call anytime and they will provide the accountability and support I need to get through hard times is priceless. Quitting is hard. Life is hard. Excuses to stuff nicotine back into our lips is easy. Aren’t you worth doing something hard? If you can’t handle quitting how are you going to handle the surgeries, chemo, and radiation?

Went to the dentist yesterday. Received a great checkup which I expect when I go to the dentist. I remember being soooo scared to go. I knew they would ask about dipping and why I wanted to do something that I knew could kill me. I never had a good answer. I would lie and say I was going to quit. Finally I stopped going for a number of years to avoid the conversation. It amazed me then and still amazes me now on how strong the addiction really is.

Isn’t it time to face the music that you need to stop? All of us at KTC once sat where you are sitting. I can tell you quitting is possible and much easier than you think when you do it with others and also have a support and accountability system in place.
