No worries, you are doing a great job.  I will continue to support this site in any way I can and appreciate all you are doing on this front.

I did see this and thank you for reply although tone was lacking for site such as this. As said although I am not on this site often now, I did a ton back in the day supporting those quitting (on this site and its predecessor) which I think Chewie can attest to. I was inclined and did try to log into Discord tonight and unfortunately my company blocked the link so will have to try on home computer.  I do appreciate everything that you do in supporting those quitting but would recommend not being so defensive as to whatever feedback is provided.

Completely agree Chewie, as you probably remember back in the day that I am 15 year quit and did this for my (now) 19 year old boy/girl twins in college.  Was part of 2006 Drama Queens group and do agree there was a lot of drama on the chat during the early days but do believe this helped in quit.  Although I check this every year or so (which I view as a good thing that the drive of nicotine is not there) I was dismayed that you did away with the chat.  This has absolutely no bearing on me but I did find during the initial quit period this chat to be instrumental to success and do recommend reinstituting for this purpose for those newly quitting.

I don't have a daughter (all boys) but this one gets me right in the feels...

There were a host of issues that you probably aren't aware of since you mentioned you aren't active on the site that contributed to this decision. Since you won't likely even see this, I'm not going to waste my time. But I will say there is actually a new "chat" - in fact, an entirely new complimentary side of KTC on Discord that combines the forums into a chat-like atmosphere. Check it out if you feel so inclined.
I apologize for the tone. I do get annoyed when (on occasion) people pop back after such a length of time and criticize decisions made in their absence without any knowledge of what led to those decisions.

We are on the same team; we are quit and want to help others experience that same freedom. I was not around back in the early days so thank you for your contributions at that time and laying the foundation for people like me who came later to have the best damn place on the internet to quit nicotine.

I hope you can get Discord to work. My company computer blocks it as well and I've had to utilize either my smartphone or iPad. Let us know if you continue to have issues.

You need to change your vocabulary when it's time to quit. The words 'if', 'hope' and 'try' have no place in a successful quit.

The GOALS of KillTheCan (October 2021)

I've had numerous conversations about this over the past several days (weeks, months, etc.)

Just putting this out there really to solidify it in my mind. I'm going to copy/paste some convos I've had, add to some, subtract from others, etc.

KTC started 15+ years ago. The idea was to develop a place to help people get (AND STAY) quit. Smokeless tobacco was, and continues to be, the enemy in my mind. Period, end of fucking story.

Through the years things have changed. It's been talked about ad naseum so I won't bore you with a history lesson but it includes things like platform changes, the advent of social media, new things that didn't exist like chat, offshoot sites, massive growth and decline of engagement.

It's easy to fall into the trap of looking at this place as an opportunity to be BIG.

"Let's grow the site. Let's grow the membership. Let's be bigger than the rest."

That has NEVER been the goal. The goal has ALWAYS been getting people to be free from their addiction to smokeless tobacco.

I don't think when the founders of AA were thinking it was a business opportunity. They just wanted to help people.

That's what KTC is. Period. Everything else is nice... but not the main mission.

It has become readily apparent through the years that building ACCOUNTABILTY seems to be a major factor in success rates. Building BROTHERHOOD seems to be a major factor in building that accountability. That's where ACCOUTABILITY + BROTHERHOOD = SUCCESS comes from. Seems silly to point it out, but I find it helpful to see it written out that way.

So... if all things stem from BROTHERHOOD it seems natural to figure out how to grow that. That's why you hear the term ENGAGEMENT thrown around. In my mind this isn't a marketing term. This is about chatting, talking, feeling, understanding your brothers and sisters in quit. This is about KNOWING what these folks are going through, being EMPHATHETIC and PAYING FORWARD with we WE know and have experienced.

NOTHING ELSE MATTERS.

This has NEVER been about being the biggest. It’s about QUITTING. If that means it’s 6 guys bullshitting together all day then that’s what it means.

I've seen more of the above on Discord in recent weeks that I've seen in YEARS on the forums. I'm not suggesting Discord is perfect... it's not. But in my eyes its giving us something we've not had recently. ENGAGEMENT (again... not the marketing term).

Brotherhood leads to Accountability leads to Success (getting and staying quit). PERIOD.
