You may also want to check out the "Success Stories" section of the Switch  Quit website. The FIRST story says, "I have been chewing nicotine gum for SIXTEEN years..."

Can someone tell me how this is a "success"?

FAQ #5- Who funded the research behind Switch and Quit Owensboro?
Quote
From 1999 to 2004, the University of Alabama at Birmingham received a five-year unrestricted research grant from the United States Smokeless Tobacco Company (USSTC) of Greenwich, Connecticut
Its sad because there are so many people that are clueless about quitting and could use this as a source to quit smoking.
The quacks who researched this should be sued out of existance
It really is sad. In fact, it's exactly what someone thinking about quitting needs to justify to himself that dipping is just fine. Funny there's no mention ofthe bloody gums, shriveled lips, or jaws that have been removed. Sure UST gives them a grant with "no strings", but his job as a researcher depends on it. Give me a break. The more I read that site (and his "blog") the more pissed I get. Two things: 1) I will not die early from self induces cancer, and 2) I WILL NOT live my life as nicotine's bitch. I call my own shots, not some chemical in my bloodstream.
10. Why havenÂ’t more health groups and organizations endorsed this strategy?

"The problem is that (total nicotine) abstinence is unachievable for millions of smokers."

Except that it is achievable by 100% of the people who follow our simple 3 step program.

1. Promise not to use today by posting roll.
2. Keep your promise.
3. Repeat tomorrow.
And it really is that simple Yota.

Time tested, and true.

...so grateful for this site and all of you in it.
problem is there's no money in this tried and true method.

No, I'm craving like crazy, but for a pinch not a cigarette. In fact the first I ever thought of a cigarette was when I noticed never craved one.

I just noticed something weird, I smoked for four years but I haven't craved one cigarette. Just thought that was kind of weird, I was thinking the Nic bitch would be firing on all cylinders.
The timing of the nic bitch varies for everyone...Early in my quit I went for a couple of weeks without a crave...then had a terrible 3 days....Enjoy the times that you are coasting...but stay vigilant
