My name is Dave and I have been chewing some form of tobacco for the better part of 30 yrs. It seems surreal to actually write that because I don't think of myself as a dipper. It started in a rural town where all the cool older kids did it. I was hooked. I managed to quite for a couple of years in 95 but on a drive up to Atlanta to the summer Olympics, I caved in. That was 20 yrs ago. My girlfriend doesn't really know how addicted I am because I've downplayed it, probably just kidding myself.Dave, first and foremost is great that you are quitting. The way it works here is that you have to quit for yourself first. It's admirable that you mentioned your Grandfather, but you have to quit for you first. With that, the next step for you is to join the Aug quit group since you quit on Aug 23rd. Once you locate that group post roll per the instructions. We post roll every day, early in the day. It's our commitment to ourselves and the group that we are quit for the day. Then we do this everyday.
I'm into my 3rd day dip free and I'm still committed and still clean. I have thought about choking everyone around me, but decided jail is not a good option. Every time I want a dip, I chug a water. My biggest fear is getting on my flats boat without a chew. I don't think I've ever done it before. I know some people say to avoid having a drink but I don't drink. It's the boat that's the catalyst.
Anyway, here goes! Day 3. I quit for my Grandfather. Someone tell me I'll be happier without it please.
Dave
^^ Dude is absolutely correct. For yourself. Others can be encouragement and reap the benefits of you being clean and sober, but it cannot be for them. One day at a time. No more. One second at a time is acceptable and at times needed. We are not promised tomorrow so we don't promise tomorrow. Daily roll, make that promise. It gets tons better. Drink plenty of water. Just till your teeth are swimming. Go piss, drink more water. It will help with The Suck. Jaw pain and tooth pain is expected whilst quitting and oft times way past the 30 days. If you can afford to go to the dentist go. Be honest with the dentist. Develop a plan of treatment for anything and follow through. Use the network here. Your want. Your desire. Your quit.Quote from: FISHFLORIDAMy name is Dave and I have been chewing some form of tobacco for the better part of 30 yrs. Going to the dentist on Thursday. I go 4 times a year, but for some reason I'm absolutely petrified this time. Awesome work! How did the dentist go? Tell them your are quit, tell them to write it in your chart.Got a clean bill of health from the dentist. They really looked around my mouth. Big relief.
Keep it up, and while I know it sounds weird, you can fish without a chew in...

Dave - Congratulations on your decision to knock this horrible addiction out of your life. Fight for this every day and get through it one day at a time - no looking back. Do not romanticize the time you had with this shit in the past, it was trying to kill you. That's your boat and it no longer carries passengers trying to kill you. Leave your old fishing buddy behind and experience some amazing time on the water with yourself, without poison running through your veins. You'll feel empowered and free. Make sure you go on your boat and clear it out, get rid of any old cans and dump them out immediately. You don't want to be out on the water and come across a can and capsize your quit. Make sure you are quitting for you first! You got this. It will be hard but you will not regret this decision.Quote from: FISHFLORIDAYou're going to be much, much happier.Quote from: paul-sanMy Grandfather died of esophageal cancer from tobacco. All the crap your experiencing, temporary, but it should be there,in the back out your mind every damn day, even into your 100's, 1,000's...a huge reminder where you came from, so you'll never go back.
I've seen you around a lot, that what it takes, stay connected and you'll be successful.

I can't emphasize what Chick said enough. If you dive into this place headfirst and really go for it, this will be your quit. A half-assed attempt is almost certain to result in failure. It's hard enough when you're 100% committed, so anything less than 100% is risky. You're doing it the right way Fish. Being active on the KTC is a big part of keeping myself in check. I like to read what other people are going through, been through and do. I helps me realize that absolutely everything that has to do with NIC is all the same between us. I appreciate your support and see the support you give others. We all only go around once... Let's make it Nic free.
Today was day 50 for me.. It was also the day that I got to review the CTscan with the Doctor. I have been having crazy headaches for the last 3 months and the fact that I had chewed cancer causing shit for 32 years did not ease my mind. The good news was there was no cancer or any real funny business. But, I will tell everyone this.... The week between the test and getting the results was enough to just about give me a nervous breakdown.Fish-FLA
A few guys in my August group new about what was going on and you know who you are. Thanks for the support. This site has been a refuge for me during a few of those anxiety filled evenings.
I never want to go through that again. Never.
I look back at the years of stupidity. For what? To live in fear that I could die of cancer? Oh how I wish I had this site years ago. The darkest hour is always right before dawn. I'm looking forward to a good nights sleep.
We'll everyone, here I am at day 148. 100% posted. My quit is strong and I know that everyday is a battle. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think about Nicotine. I still find myself reaching for my pocket, putting my hand on the truck doorside under the handle. Really unbelievable that nic still has influence on me. I live ODAAT and by keeping my daily promise to my brothers, I know I am stronger and will not cave that day. I am not immune. I am human and my body ingested poison for years. I am only now training my body and mind how to deal with the absence of that poison.I enjoy the quit by hating the nic bitch and calling her names. She's a sly whore, so watch out!
My quit has become my new best friend and I nurture it and talk to it like a best friend. I treat it right, I play with it (sending memes of quitting) I encourage it and I bring it out to show to others. I love my new friend Quit. It's kinda like an imaginary friend but when a crave comes, I know it's not imaginary. It's like my quit is playing a game of hide and seek with Nic in the woods. I'm creeping along, that nervous gut feeling that I could get tagged or chased, but if I do get tagged I laugh it off and go hide a again, this time learning where Nic likes to hide and find me.
It's amazing how much I'll actually talk to myself out loud about my quit. How many times I pass the C store and yell "Fock You!" as I go by. I keep this entire quitting as a game. Some might yell and scream, "This is no game!! This is serious shite!". No doubt it is but I will tell you this, If you hate quitting you will stop quitting. No one continues to do something they hate to do. That is why quitting dip is hard...because you loved it. If you enjoy quitting just as much, it is something you will look forward to doing every day. I look forward to it. I enjoy quitting! Sure, sometimes the cravings suck out loud, but I turn that into something fun. Today I have a huge aerospace audit. I walked right down the middle of my plant and sang ELO Hold On tight To Your Dreams for my employees like an idiot as loud as I could. Some of them yelled at me to stop, others joined in, others just shook their heads. I find the greatest meme pictures and send them to my list of quitter friends (I can tell the ones who enjoy their quit). You always hear vets talking about embracing the suck. Take it one step further and turn it into something enjoyable. This, my fellow BAQ, will help your quit, put a smile on your face, and at the end of the day you will be a hellova' lot more fun to be around.

I am human and my body ingested poison for years. I am only now training my body and mind how to deal with the absence of that poison. You are the man Fish! Your pics that I wake up to every morning is like a funny replacement for that catshit I used to look forward to packing in my gum! You are doing a great job helping yourself and others that need it. Celebrate anyway you feel fit!

Two hundred and thirty some days ago I wandered into KTC in a foggy mess having already been quit on my own for a few days, looking for a better way to quit. I somehow managed to post an intro, and you were the first to reply...Quote from: trigerhapyCongratulations, neighbor! I cannot believe it has been 2 years!! Couldn't have done it without all of your maniacal threats of burning my house down if ever I caved, so thanks! 'party'Quote from: pky1520Awesome 2 years man!Quote from: ChickDipCongrats FISH-fil-A on your 2 years quit!Congrats you beautiful bigoted bastard!

It's been a while since I've written in my intro. Figured today is a good day for it. I'm busy as all hell but I feel It's time for a bit of reflection.Congrats on kicking her ass for 1600 days @FISHFLORIDA (https://ktcforum.org/index.php?action=profile;u=7). That is some BADASS quitting. Drink one for me tonight.
Today marks 1600 days of freedom from nicotine. Out of all the things I've learned here, the main thing, and most important for me that i must never forget (aside from being an addict) is that there is no way I could'a quit or stayed quit on my own. For years, I thought it would one day be possible. It took KTC to make me a believer. It took a team of thousands of bad ass guys and gals to pull me up.
There are all kinds here on KTC. One person's nemesis is another's reason to stay quit. One quitter's man crush ( @JohnSmallberries (https://ktcforum.org/index.php?action=profile;u=43) ) is another's lost love.
I keep watching all of the Eddie Van Halen stuff. Like a good number of you, he was a rock n roll God growing up, immortal. My blood turned to ice hearing the news of him dying of mouth/esophageal cancer. I pray for myself and everyone of us that we never suffer that fate. God willing, if we do, it serves as an example and someone out there makes a choice to either never pick up tobacco or quit right then and there.
If there is anyone reading this that is a newb and thinking about quitting, take my lead and jump right in. Post a day one and get your life back. I have posted my promise without fail for 1600 days in a row and I am a testament that by doing that 5 min process, being quit is the only possible outcome.
Thanks for everyone here who has been a part of my quit. There are many of you out there that don't even realize what a big part of it you were.
Keep up the quit and If anyone ever needs digits for accountability, just PM me.

11 guests in here tonight.
Make that promise to not use nicotine today. Post a day 1.
I will quit side by side with you. Day 1821 and still doing it one day at a time. It takes a team to get through this and the “A” team is right here in these forums.
Get your life back. It’s been stolen by a dead plant in a can.

So true. If you are reading this quit now! How many more days are you planning to roll the dice and hope that the dip in your mouth isn't going to be the one that finally kills you?
