10) Trust When Sharing

A foundational pillar of success at Kill The Can is Brotherhood. We encourage quitters to get to know each other, exchange phone numbers, open up and even meet in person. While opening up in this fashion can be intimidating, it can also be the factor that keeps you quit. Connecting and investing in your brothers & sisters in Quit makes it that much harder to fail. That random text message that you send might be the one that saves someone's life. Maybe you've even been on the receiving end of that message.

Trust is critical in this process. We have to trust that when we send digits, the recipient will use them for mutual support and accountability. Everyone here is an adult and this shouldn't have to be said, but harassment, stalking, abuse, trolling or persistent unwanted contact is completely unacceptable. This kind of behavior not only hurts the victim, it degrades the foundation of our community. It will not be tolerated. The abuse of personal information will be grounds for permanent banishment from this site and the resources herein. Should an issue escalate into a legal matter, rest assured that the Admin team will fully support & assist the investigating authorities.

While these instances are extremely rare, this is the internet and there are some measures that you should take to protect yourself.
1) Never share digits in an open forum, please use the PM system.
2) Make contact and have an interaction before sharing digits.
3) Remember, everything you publicly post can be easily accessed, even over long periods of time, so personal information can be pieced together. Use common sense when sharing information about your work, home and location.
4) If you plan to meet in person, choose a public place and let others know about it.
5) Trust your gut. If something doesn't feel right, back away from the situation and alert a Moderator.
6) The Live Chat, by nature, has more quitters and users who have not been "vetted", so please take this into consideration when sharing information.
7) It's an unfortunate fact of life that our female quitters are more at risk for harassment and they should use extra caution when sharing information.

We are a community of thousands of addicts, drawn from a diverse array of backgrounds, all fighting the same battle. Individually, we draw strength from the brotherhood here. It's vital that we maintain the integrity of our community. The leadership here is committed to doing just that. In summary, don't be an internet creep, use common sense and let us know if something isn't right.
