Tony, you are at the right place. We quit one day at a time here... That much we can do (and it does get easier over time). The best approach is to just flush your stash and get it over with -- you would have all the quitters at the March 2016 quit group right where you are in early quit suck... and getting past it.

Don't plan... the start dates tend to get pushed off. Do.
I'd second what nomore is saying... don't wait... quit.

Here's a little something I wrote a few years back that talks about setting a quit date and all the time you can't get back.

Hello, i have been chewing 20+ years. I am very scared to quit. My mind seems to freeze with the thought of how I will cope with being without. I dip at work all day long, I know I will need help thru this. Just wanted to reach out before I jump, and never open that door again....tony

Callme congrats on making the best decision of your life. It takes 72 hrs for the nicotine to leave your system. After that it's all mind games. You should head on over to the March 16 group and post roll. Drink tons of water exercise until you can't do anymore then exercise some more. Grab some gum seeds fake whatever it takes to keep the shit out of your mouth. Call your doctor about your anxiety issues. He/she can prescribe so anti-anxiety Meds. A lot of folks on here have used them to help them quit. Just don't let them talk you into nicotine replacement therapy! It doesn't work and it's not allowed on here. Jump into live chat too. Vets in there can help you out and point you in the right direction.

Hey guys. I'm 26 and I've been a heavy chewer for about 8 years now. Starting in high school playing ball and haven't been able to stop. Recently, I've been doing a little more than a tin a day of Grizzly WG pouches. I've tried to quit many times, but the dizziness and anxiety are so bad that I always go back to it for comfort.

This time I'm stopping for good and accepting the symptoms. Its been 15 hours of no nicotine and my anxiety is through the roof. I dont feel like myself at all and I can barely focus at work. I also feel almost shortness of breath. This is the longest I've gone without having nicotine in as long as I can remember (when I've "quit" in the past I've done nicotine gum). The anxiety is def the worst part. Has anyone else had similar feelings? How long do they last?

Stay strong everyone.

Hi all. So I've passed my one year quit day. This forum helped me get through the first couple weeks, but after that I struggled to remember to post roll early everyday, and got tired of guys yelling at me. Regardless, I am proud to say It has now been 1 year and 4 days since nicotine has entered my body. Y'a want to know something funny, I didn't think about dip once on my 1 year anniversary. In fact, I didn't even realize it was my 1 year anniversary until the day after! Hopefully that fact will give hope to some of you who feel like those cravings will never go away. Don't get me wrong I still get cravings from time to time, but I didn't on that day. Anyway, This forum was extremely helpful to me during the first couple weeks of my quit, and I just wanted to say thank you to those who run it, and apologize to those who I argued with. I was in a bad spot early in my quit, and i know I was rude to some people who were only trying to help me. Hopefully everyone understands. Good luck to all quitters, I know you can do it!

Schwook, congrats on deciding to quit.

Go to the March 16 quit group and post roll, exchange digits with some quitters.

Also check out the topics for military / vets for support.

Hey everyone,

My first day is today. The thing I miss the most is my sense of smell, sure it's not all gone, but it definitely isn't as sharp as it used to be. Fresh rain on asphalt. Ahhh. I've started to get really bad acid reflux and it's making sleeping a chore. I can't do this crap anymore. Goodbye, SKOAL. You got me through many, many days in the hot middle east desert, but you were a crutch then, and a crutch now. I won't let the fear of being without some stinky, disgusting habit take my health away. RIP SKOAL MINT ADDICT!

Hey everyone. I quit earlier in the year. I don't post much. But I had a really weird dip dream last night. It's actually freaking me out a bit. The dream was I had a sore where I use to hold my dip, I was walking by a park, at night, and my sore kept leaking this wet, white, Sandy material. So much I had to keep spitting it out. It was so grainy I couldn't get it off my tongue. Like milk mixed with sand. Then I woke up. It was really weird. My mouth was completely full of this wet sand like material seconds after spitting it out. I don't know why, but I'm kinda spooked today. It doesn't sound that bad reading this, but it was a nightmare for sure. And almost at my one year anniversary. I think this dream solidified me making it to a year.

Anyone had a similar dream?

hi, heard about this place from my home care nurse kristin, she was very positive about the support here. my quit date is tomorrow 11/22/15. Or so i am planning; i've planned before and caved but this time i believe I can make it.
Welcome johnb! This place is a great place to find brotherhood and accountability in being quit. I know it made the difference in me getting this far.

If you quit today or tomorrow, your quit group is February 2016. Mosey over that way and read up on How to Post Roll and then get yourself on roll when you're nic free.

I would challenge you that if you're ready to quit, why not today? You say you've planned in the past and failed. The best way to break that cycle is to not give yourself room to put it off.

Plenty of excuses for why tomorrow's going to be a better day to quit. In reality, the best day to be quit is today!
Hey johnb!

I am in the February quit group... this is my 14th day. Post up as soon as possible and begin the journey to freedom!

This is my 3rd day of quitting and my first post on here. I am a severe tobacco user 3 to 4 cans a day , 2 to 4 cigars and a pack of smokes every day for the last 5 years. I have been using tobacco since I was 13 and have seen no other way of dealing with life. I made this decision for my family and I plan to hold to it. I have every symptom of with drawls times ten. I actually felt like I had a seizure my first day. I have been using some 2mg gum very lightly and plan to stop that next week. If any one else has used the amounts I have and could offer some advise I would greatly appreciate it. I do feel better now and I have tons of energy and my mind is as clear as a bell. A lot of fog but it's a lot better. I just want to know when dose it get easier. This is not fun so I'm looking for any help I can get.
I can't imagine how you managed to find time to use that much. Or money. Regardless, if you have not done so, you are a good candidate for medical supervised quit. This is a cold turkey site, but you are using lethal amounts.
Man up and be a quitter ODAAT. Post Roll EDD. It works.

ODAAT: One Day At A Time
EDD: Every Damn Day

Hey, man. I've been using 2 cans sometimes but rarely 3 times a day and man has it been hard. Like you the first day I quit within 3 hours I had a bad anxiety attack and called a ambulance. I was anxious still for 2 more days but I managed it then on the 6th day i had another horrible panick attack at work. Face, legs, hands went number had trouble breathing and talking. It was awful. It been a scary week since I quit but this stuff really should be expected for the amount of nicotine you and me were taking in everyday. I'm just mad at myself because I never had any health problems before but you and me need to stay positive and try and move forward and stay nicotine free.
