Title: Ready to Quit
Post by: JLS21 on December 13, 2013, 05:06:00 PM
I'm a senior college student and a member of the Air National Guard. I've been dipping on and off (mostly on) for the past 6 or 7 years. I'm just ready to quit. When I'm not dipping, I'm always looking forward to putting a dip in and I realize that it has a strong power over me. Recently, all I can think about is that I am going to get mouth cancer because my mouth is always sore. I really abused the hell out of my gums the past few weeks with finals. I am just ready to get on with my life and kick this nasty habit that is owning me right now.

I have decided to quit today. I have not had a dip today but it's all I've thought about all day. Time to nut up or shut up.

Welcome aboard JLS. Now that you have had a little time to look around on the site, it is time to get started on your quit. First and foremost, you will post Roll. Roll is your daily promise to yourself and all of your new brothers and sisters that you will not use tobacco in any form that day. You will post your name and the number of days you are quit each day in the March 2014 quit group. Each and every day you will post your promise. No exceptions. That is the price of admission to KTC. Nothing more and nothing less. The reason you are put in March is that will be the month if you join us today that you will celebrate being 100 days free of nicotineÂ…your Hall of Fame date.
Go to the welcome center and that will get you started on learning how to post roll. Post roll today and look up at your inbox (1). That is a personal message from me with my telephone number. Nice job on taking back your life. Follow through with our plan and you will return for that Spring semester a better man and a smarter student! Wayne

Awesome decision, I wish I could go back and quit at that age! Get over to the March quit group and post roll, and take Ryan's advice and read the welcome center. You can do this man, all 20,000 of us are!

Great job JL521. Great talking with you today. Now that you have posted roll, today is in the books. You made a promise to yourself and to the guys in your group that you will not use nicotine today.

Do whatever it takes to stay quit. Sunflower seeds, atomic fireballs, lots of water. Get some exercise too. You are entering the "suck" and it is a bitch. Stay strong, it is worth it. Once this toxin is removed from your system your body and mind will begin to heal.

If you need anything, reach out. You have my number, and I encourage you to grab a few more.

Day 3 is in the books. Keep up it man you are doing great. Nice win with the long car ride today. That was a tough one for me too.

Have you met anyone in March 14? Take a minute and do so man. I am telling you, it is mission critical. Jump in chat tonight if you can. I will try to do the same.

Hating everyone and everything right now is normal man. It sucks what poisoning your brain does when you take the poison away, but one day at a time you'll get to a sweet place. One that you haven't seen in a while. Welcome aboard. This is the best decision if your life.

Damn right it isn't the answer! Your pretty smart bro! Hey hang in there. This gets better in time, if only I could let you see the world through my 230day quit brain. You will have to do this, we can't do it for you, but we can and will support you fully. Erussell 230.

Welcome to Ktc bro. Quitting sucks at first ( something you are learning right now ), but it gets better each day. Each time you refuse to give in! Its called freedom. Even during your craves, you know its good. Or else you would have caved by now! We all need our freedom. I'm glad you are here fighting next to us. We all need support. I'm in the middle of a 14 hr drive, and its a big trigger for me as well. But as we face it and conquer it, we are adding power to our quit. Keep your head up and Ktc close to you. You got this! Send me a message if u need anything.

Welcome aboard JLS. The guys below me are badass quitters so heed their words. Quitting while you are in your 20's is a smart move amigo. Most guys on this site wish they had the foresight that you do. Tobacco isn't a joke. It uses your own money to poison you - all the while fooling you into thinking you enjoy using it. You don't - you're addicted to nicotine. We all are. It's nothing but a lie my friend. All the support in the world is on this site if you take advantage of it. Talk to some guys - especially in March. Getting involved and making some friends here is crucial IMO. This is how you build accountability. It works. Posting roll is the lifeblood of this site - when you post roll, I expect you to honor it. It empowers my quit when you do and in return I will do the same for you. Last but not least - no half assing it here. It's all or nothing. Post roll every day and honor it - that's the method for success. Kick ass man - great decision.

Welcome JLS!!! Just know that if you show up EVERY day and post roll you can beat this thing like so many of us have. It will suck at first (that's an understatement) BUT it will get easier and it will be an amazing feeling not having the nic bitch controlling your life. I have been quit for 346 days now and I can honestly say it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Feel free to reach out if you need help getting through a tough day. Stay strong!

Damn, I jumped on here to help out, only to see so many other serious, no fuckin' bullshit quitters already here in your corner.

Some days, I'm long-winded, some succinct. Today i think I'll be the latter.

Read, read, read.
Learn, learn, learn.
Post roll, post roll, honor your word.

All your answers will lie in those three suggestions. If you haven't absorbed the entire site top to bottom yet, read.

If you really want to get a firm grasp of how and why nicotine does what it does when we allow it, learn.

Post roll. Honor your word.

Certainly not much to add here. Post roll everyday. Jump in chat when you can, I lived in there for probably 300ish days. Get some numbers and do not be afraid to use them. One day at a time is what we preach, but break it down to one hour, one minute, one breath at a time if needed.

Freedom isn't free, but the fight is worth it!!

Welcome! Congrats on your CHOICE to quit. It's just like anything else you choose NOT to do. I assume you don't rob banks, kick old ladies, or cuss your mom. Why not? Because you aren't THAT guy. You are no longer the guy who dips. Easy!

Welcome! I applaud you for making this decision while you still have many years ahead of you. I wasted years of my life and tons of money on a stupid addiction and only wish I would have pulled my head out of my ass sooner.
Get lots of phone numbers and get to know the great folks on the site. Having connections with other quitters could save your life!

Welcome,
Not sure what your background is but i'm going to throw a little science your way. Your, now fogged brain, is still solidifying into the pile of adult goo that will be your body's hard drive for the rest of your life. Up until about 25yrs old the brain is super malleable. It can recover more quickly from life's tramas than that of say, someone twice your age. It can also unlearn addiction more readily now, than ten years from now. Im sure you get where I am going with this.
It will never be easier than now. Keep posting and be proud that you have the wisdom to recognize addiction and do something about it.

Today's been okay for the most part, but I can tell I'm a bit on edge now. When I'm having an unbearable crave I put my running shoes on and head out the door and just run until I can't anymore. I've also been going through tons of sunflower seeds.

Great work JLS21. I am not much of a runner, but as a fellow addict, that running you're doing is probably giving your body a nice dose of adrenaline, which feels good and will definately get you through the crave.

Dont look now man, but you are winning. Keep it up!!

Well I've made it a week but don't feel like I've accomplished much. I got about 2 hours of sleep last night. I was laying in bed with my girlfriend and the only damn thing I could think about was a fucking dip. There is so much wrong about that. These damn mind games are driving me crazy, fuck me for ever starting.

You have accomplished much.

1. Kept the carcinogenic poison out of your face for 1 week.
2. Learned some tools for staying quit.
3. Discovered an on-line community of people with the same goal as you.
4. Made a few connections.
5. Learned what it means to be an addict.

You are right on track. The healing takes time. Be patient. Think of your number of days using vs. your number of days quit.

So here I am at day 18. Things have gotten a little easier, but I still have the dip dreams and catch myself sometimes trying to think I've earned myself one dip - which is of course bullshit. When I start thinking like that I remember the first 5 days of my quit and how absolutely miserable they were, and tell myself one dip is not worth going through all that shit again. My cravings aren't as bad as they have been but I have noticed I'm still a lot more irritable and on edge than normal, hopefully that will end soon.

Anyway just thought I'd give an update. Certainly couldn't have made it this far without KTC and all the support from everyone on here. Stay strong guys.

You're doing the right thing ODAAT.
For craves, Cbird recommends placing penis in nearest desk drawer and slam it shut. End of crave.

The irritability faded for me after about a month, then it raged back last week in me and was worse than ever. However, I made it through without hurting or maiming anyone.

If quitting was easy, there would be no KTC, no large bonuses for the execs at US Tobacco...

Then again, nothing that is easy to get has as much worth as those items that are painful or tough as hell to get. Earn this quit daily, post, promise, repeat...life will continue to happen around you; the best you can do is nut up and make it what you want it to be.

I have never tried ole cBird's trick but I will take his word that it works. I do burpees when I get a craving. To each their own though

atta boy JLS. Don't look now but you are winning!!! 18 days is something to be proud of man. Keep it up. Now I know for sure that you definitely have what it takes to be on the winning team.

I fell for that "just one" game for at least the last decade.

I could never admit I was an addict.

Thought I could just stop anytime I "wanted" to.

Thought I could take or leave it and just use occasionally.

I thought I really wanted to dip because I enjoyed it and liked it.

The people here have taught me many things over this past year. I feel compelled to pass some of them on to the best of my ability. We are never more than a dip away from a tin a day. One is one too many my friend, and you know this. Proud to be quit with you.
