Title: Quitting for the 100th time
Post by: Jman on January 06, 2011, 02:40:00 PM
I am 38 yrs old and started dipping when I was 14 playing baseball. I use a can every couple of days (copenhagen and skoal). Just bought 6 cans of the Hooch herbal snuff and have made it all day without the real stuff.

Welcome Jman,

Do what ever you have to do to stay quit! You can do this! Go on over to April '11 and post roll call. Do this every morning. Read everything on this site. Focus on quitting one day at a time, dont worry about tomorrow.

PM me if you have any more questions.

Stay quit!

Welcome my brother! Use this site! Use all the resources you will find here, use the vets around here and listen to their advice. Use your brothers in your quit group. All these things are invaluable during your quit, especially early on. You CAN do this. Just focus on today! Proud to be quit with you!

Welcome Jman! Use that enthusiasm! You've found a great resource, KTC has made the difference in many a quit - simply through accountability. Post as early as you can every morning, give your word not to dip for that day and then keep your word. Easy as that. You're in for a tough few days, but if you can make it through them things WILL get easier. Use this site, it will take you mind off the suck, give you brothers to rant and rave to when it sucks the most and then, when you're ready, help someone else - pay the support you'll receive in the next few days forward.

Proud to quit with you. PM me if you need anything.

I am almost at 24 hours without any form of Nicotine. My head feels like it is going to explode and I think I could take on a 1200 lb brama bull. Got up at 9 am this morning and I have been landscaping my home all day, just finished around 6:30 pm and not even the least bit tired. This is fucking nuts!!!! Tell me this shit will stop soon. I guess 23 yrs of dipping kind of makes me deserve this. 'bang head'

I'm a little confused being you say you are almost 24 hrs with no nicotine, yet you are on today's April roll at Day 3. Perhaps i missed something but please explain.

Does it get better...yeah without question. However, it does not just instantly get better. You are in the suck right now...and well it's going to suck for a little bit. But just like each of us you will persevere...one day at a time.

I would encourage you to read as much as possible on the site. The more informed you are...the more you see the accounts of other...the better prepared you are to fight this battle.

I was using Nicorette the first two days and was told you cant use any form of nicotine when you post roll (sorry, i didnt realize the gum was not accepted). I should post tomorrow morning as Day 2. Either way, is there a big difference in how you feel when you make it to the 3 day point?

Yeah, tomorrow will be Day 2.

Forget about the end of Day 3 for now. You need to focus on making it trough today without shoving that shit in you face...or continuing to poison your self with nicotine.

One day at a time.

If your knuckles aren't white, you're not doing it right. Shit, Johnny Cochran has nothing on me.

Actually though, it should suck now...you're deep in the fog. At this point for me, I developed ESP and lock jaw. Just kidding...but I was crawling up the walls. Good...that is your body healing. Great times ahead...trust me brother! You're doing it right.

You're in the fight of your life. The question is are you going to embrace the suck and live free one day, or keep dipping and go coffin shopping?

You can do this! We're here to help. Fuck the nic bitch...you're a quitter!

If this shit was easy you would have quit 23 years ago. I too dipped for 24 years. I have been quit for 223 days now. If I can....so can you. If you can make it just a few more days then you will feel MUCH better.....You are detoxing now and this is a very DANGEROUS part of your quit. It seems SO much easier to give up and dip than to keep on fighting. I suggest that you get mad at US Tobacco for telling you lies when you were younger and addicting you to this poison and then turning you out like a whore to get them money. I acknowledge that this quit has to be about you, but it helped me to think about my children growing up calling another man "Daddy" because I was too fucking weak to quit. Because I chose dip over them. I WILL NOT! I will die before I will let my little girls down. I WILL be alive to see them graduate, get married, and have children of their own....Why?...Because I am one BAD MOTHER FUCKER! How about you brother?

It gets better everyday. You won't feel "good" for awhile yet but everyday is just a little bit better then the last. You can do this. Come in here and rage away. Send me a pm telling me how much I suck :D it won't bother me at all and it might make you feel better for a spell. Hang in there.

How long until you get back to some form of normal? I have a sales career that requires me to show up with the "A" game. I have made it 4 days without nicotine. Feel good right now but I had to take a nap at 4 pm today.

It took me a good three weeks to clear much of the clutter. There is still some clutter, but not like the first three weeks. Keep going. You only have to quit one time in your life.

Scowick,
Does running help you with the "head games"?
Title: Re: Quitting for the 100th time

I think is sort of compressed it. After a run, I could feel the fog and then it would clear. It certainly helped me through the first three days. I ran a half marathon hard 12 hours in, sweated a boatload and rehydrated. I probably cleared a lot of nicotine.

Overall, I think running helps with the stress levels and such, but you still experience all of the symptoms of the quit.

Hey JMan - I'm in sales as well and found two things of utter importance - working out - for all the reasons below, but honestly I just felt better and it cleared my head every time. I work out at night and can honestly see/feel the difference during the day. Second, stay away from alcohol. I replaced dip with alcohol early on in my quit and it only increased the fog and made it last longer. The fog should lift for you soon, it may come and go for short periods over the next few weeks, but I have not seen the fog since ~ day 30 or so - which coincided with me starting the workout and foregoing the liquor!

Working out is a great way to kill craves, reduce anxiety, and overall just feel much better. I started doing P90X and feel better than I have in years.

You do not have to do anything extreme, just get your heart rate up for 30 mins a day. You will feel much better !!

Working out is a great way to deal with the dip-rage that comes as well. I had, and still have, severe dip-rage that comes on. It is getting better and they come less and less, but working out is a great way to deal with them without taking anything out on your family. Great job guys!

Man, I cant believe how pissed off you can get quitting. I'm pretty high strung anyways but the rage has been strong. Cycling with some intensity seems to help a little. Interestingly enough, I feel better right now than I have felt in several years.

The wife just bought the P90X, may need to give that a try.

No doubt about it, exercise helps a lot. I started lifting again and it has been a huge stress relief. Just go in there grunt, yell and throw some weights around. I love running too but it's a little cold for me now, and I get too bored on treadmills.

I've been on the P90X program for the past few weeks - if you want something to get your mind off of dipping, that will sure as hell do it! Post up how you feel after your first round of Plyo and again after your first Legs and Back routine!! Holy shit!

Depending on your current fitness you may want to start with the "Lean" program. The classic is a bitch. I did classic for about 45 days before time away from home gave me an excuse to stop. I just started back up Sunday on "Classic" and quickly decided I was scaling back to "Lean" for 90 days.

Can't say how it it affect the quit, but purely on the fitness level, know some people that have had great results on the P90X.

To help the craving in the moment and can't go workout, already did, etc you might want to try just stretching. Check out mobilitywod.blogspot.com. This guy puts up a new stretching bit every day, each is about 10 mins. Browse thru old ones if you get multiple craves / day.

Well, I am doing this for the second time. I quit on January 6, 2011 and made it to HOF. I continued to post for another month or so and thought I had this addiction under control. Long story short, went hunting in November and decided to have just one.... before I really paid attention to what I was doing I was back to a half can a day. There isnt just one. You either quit or you use.

My use started when I was around 14 or 15 years old playing baseball. I started off dipping SKOAL wintergreen (my favorite) and eventually moved into Copenhagen. At one point, I dipped a can a day regularly. This habit has gone on for about 24 years and I know if I dont quit, it is going to kill me. By the way, tobacco has taken the life of my Uncle and Grandaddy... Pancreatic and bladder cancer is an ugly way to die.

I am certainly not a wealth of information here but if I have learned anything... you have to post daily and make that promise to your quit brothers that you will not use that day. Dont worry about tomorrow or 2 years from now... just worry about today. When you cant handle it, jump on the site and talk to someone or read about someone who is going through exactly what you are experiencing. I am doing this again and on Day 3... it sucks and I get to do it all over again. The good news is that it can be done and you will start feeling better but you cant lose sight of the fact that the NIC bitch will strike when you least expect. Use this group ... it will be one of the best decisions you have made.
