Title: My last dip after 11 years of a can+ a day
Post by: imaquiter on October 31, 2011, 11:53:00 PM
Hey guys. Glad to be here. My name is Brian. I have been dipping since I was about 13yrs old and I am now 24. I took my last dip today at about 2pm. This is not my first time quitting (will be the last though) but the reason I have failed before is lack of planning and caving way to easy. I know this will be hard considering it was hard to just make it through half a day without a dip but I have prepared as well as I can. I started taking chantix last week and first thing in the mourn Im stopping at the store to buy some gum and whatever else might help. Any suggestions on a good alternative to sunflower seeds or gum? Not a big fan of gum and the last time I tried to quit, I ate so mant seeds that my whole mouth hurt and I couldnt taste anything for a wee  k. Im glad I found this site and I look forward to haveing some help with this and a support system. Thanks for reading and good night.

Great decision. I'm glad to hear you've done some planning but you also need to know that no matter how much planning you've accomplished you will still go through some difficult times. We all have and it's just a fact of nicotine cessation.

The good news is that you can do this. You power through. Workout, drink lots of water, seeds, gum, read everything on this site. Anything to keep that nasty crap out of your mouth.

I used sunflower seeds, gum, Jolly Ranchers, other candy to get through. Mix it up and you won't have too much trouble. The water helps counteract the salt from seeds.

Check out the "Welcome Center" link, upper right, and then get into you February quit group and post up you Day 2. Yes, yesterday counts as Day 1

Thanks guys. I've been reading a lot on the site and it has helped.

Im at a point right now that I can't go to the gym because I work form about 6:30 to 5 and then go to a local college from about 5:45 to around 9:30-10 every night so I don't really have time to do much anymore. I was big into weights for a while and spent a lot of time and money at the gym but I've sort of accepted that I'm going to gain some weight from all this but I will take it lol.

I love the ranch seeds myself. I bought some this mourning but just trying not to chew them constantly and maybe I can spare all the sores in my checks and on my tongue.

One thing I am noticing is the irritability is coming out. I noticed it last night with my wife. I guess that's something I need to work on. Other than that, its going pretty good considering.
