Title: Kodiak User
Post by: PaulG on April 21, 2014, 10:26:00 PM
This message is to ex-kodiak users. I have been a kodiak wintergreen user for many years and have tried a few dip alternatives. I am looking for suggestions on an alternative that will help me with my road to being an ex-user myself.

I used Kodiak for a while. Then I switched to Grizzly because it was cheaper.

Smokey Mountain is probably the closest flavor wise.

Did you quit yet? Or are you still thinking about it? Make sure you read the welcome center to find out how we quit nicotine. We don't try here. We draw a line in the sand and quit. It's tough but it's simple.

Whaddaya say? Are you in?

No I haven't quit yet, my start date is Thursday. I have tried Smokey Mountain before and didn't like it. I am planning on trying a few alternatives. A couple that I looked at tonight is Jake's Mint Chew and Hooch Rough Cut. I also ran across Elicit Herbal Chew that contains nicotine, which you can start with Full strength, then half and then no added nicotine.

Paul,
First to hell with Thursday,,,, start today so your Thursday quit date will be a little easier, as you will have three days under your belt. Second you want no nicotine, the step down stuff is bs. I originally did the same thing as you, but the bad asses here talked me into ripping off the Nic patch I was wearing. I am now on day 357 without any form of nicotine and love my freedom. Throw the shit out and quit with us. We will quit with you every day. Hell we will quit minute by minute, hour by hour with your if we have to.

WTF, that is addict talk brother. You need to reach down inside those boxer briefs of yours and find some manhood. Find some "I aint taking this shit anymore" balls. You will never quit thursday if you don't quit today.

Jesus H.

Dude...I chewed Kodiak for 15 years. I too tried to find a replacement for it. Guess what...their isn't one.

There are some pretty good fake chews out there that will help you with the oral fixation, but you will never find anything that tastes like Kodiak minus the nicotine. You know why? Because the fake shit HAS NO NICOTINE. Nor any of the other who knows what they put in Kodiak.

Quit NOW. Quit using your search for "Kodiak lite" as an excuse to keep finger banging the can.

Mogul inspired me 53 days ago. I didn't have the right attitude and since then, look out. After a couple messages I flushed my remaining dip and was quit, just like that. It's not easy but why wait till Thursday? Be quit today.

I use Smokey Mountain as needed. It fills the void for now but one day soon I will not be using it. Although I have to say I like the flavor.

Be quit with us today. Read all this site has to offer. Learn how to Post Roll and start TODAY. Why put off till Thursday what you can start TODAY.

Diesel - I know I won't find an exact replacement, just looking for something that will help with the oral fixation.

Erussel - I have read on here that keeping nicotine in your system keeps the addiction active and your "crave" will never go away. I am not expecting my crave to ever go away, just would like to find a healthy replacement for now, then someday I may not need anything at all.

But you have not quit yet is the problem. Man up, go dump that can in the toilet and post your promise to not use nicotine today. You only have to do today, you keep talking Thursday and you will end up moving that date forever. Or until your jaw falls off.

Oral fixation... chew gum, sunflower seeds, atomic fireballs (these are awesome!), anything you need to start to underscore the oral fixation.

Craves... nope, they won't totally go away. They become managable to the point where it's not even an issue though. Dude... I chewed 2 cans a day for 25ish years. I'm 371 days quit today and can honestly tell you it's something that barely crosses my mind anymore. Know why?... it's MY quit! I OWN IT! My addiction doesn't run the show... I do. My craves (when I have one) don't dictate my response... I do and I choose to quit. Every day... with every fiber of my being. I love my freedom and will NEVER give it back.

You need to stop being owned. Take over and run with it...

The sooner you quit the sooner you are free. There are rough days ahead, but the pride you will feel being quit is worth the craves and the NIC rage.

I thought I was quit when I was using the gum. All the Nicotine replacement stuff does is extend the suffering. I extended my suffering by 2 full days. Normally, the first 3 days suck. Best to just jump in and do it. Dump all Nicotine, throw it all away. Flush it. Piss on it whatever. Read this site, post roll when you quit, approach it one day at a time. You CAN do this.

Quitter123 - day 13.

To reiterate what everyone else is writing. There's no replacement. I chewed Kodiak for 28 years. I have used mint pouches when times are rough, but my internal fortitude has got me through all my tough times, didn't really matter what I had in my mouth. And although I'm sure it seems to you like everyone is being a douchebag. Quit now...don't wait,"Thursday is my quit date" to us quitters really seems like..."I am not serious about quitting". Because anyone who has been on this site has seen it again and again and again. Guys make excuses to not quit right away are the same guys who last a day or a week, or a month. None of those time frames is good enough. If you want to quit...REALLY REALLY want to quit, do it now. Take all these aggressive posts, get angry and turn it against your addiction. But quit now.

I once stood on a platform diving board. I was about 10 years old. Looking down, it was sooo high up. I looked at other people jumping and coming up out of the water excited and saying how fun it was. Still I would climb the ladders, go to the edge of the platform and chicken out. Pissed me off that I was too chicken to jump when everyone else could do it. I finally went to the edge again, counted to three and on three, I started to jump but in a split second, I tried to stop. Lost my balance and ended up going down, down, down. (terrified and screaming) Splash! While under the water, there wasn't any pain, I was swimming to the surface and started laughing. It was the fear that was terrifying but the jump itself was an adrenaline rush and a blast!!!

Quit stalling and jump. My only regeret quitting nicotine is that I didn't jump sooner. Suit up and quit. Don't over think it, don't overplan it. Your addiction is stalling because when Thursday comes, you might find a reason to stall.

Get rid of the cancer weed and join us today. 1 - 2- 3 JUMP.

You didn't find us by accident.

I hope you have you join us here. Flush you cans, your emergency cans and your lost cans. Round all that shit up and flush it NOW! There is no better time than now to say 'Finger' nic bitch. Embrace the suck and remember it and then you will never have to go through it again. I am new here and I've already seen the my quit date is x story a half dozen times. Now or Never time to cowboy up.

Hi Paul.

How goes the search for the alternative ? I looked for something to replace the kodiak bear for 25 years. Promised myself every day that I wouldn't chew tomorrow. Tomorrow took 25 years to find.

Nicotine is the crazy addictive. A can if chew has about 3x more nicotine than a pack of smokes. Wanna guess which brand is always at the top in terms of nicotine levels? Kodiak.

The members of this site will climb mountains to help you, but you gotta help yourself first. Being an addict sucks man... It really sucks that we did this to ourselves. But you can have a freedom after quitting that few enjoy.

Post your name in July 2014. Keep your word. We will help you. This is the alternative you've been looking for. I speak from experience. You'll never regret quitting.

I chewed and dipped for 30 years - never Kodiak but tobacco is tobacco.

My advice is not to stick something in your mouth that's just like tobacco. I tried the chopped beef jerky for a couple weeks when it was really hard, but it made me want the real thing.

Instead, try sugarless chewing gum. Extra brand gum in Polar Ice is my favorite. Chewing gum is a different enough action with your mouth than chewing tobacco so it's kind of like a fun new thing to do. It helped me tremendously in replacing my old, fatal habit.

Good luck Paul. You can do this. The alternative is a slow, painful, horrible death that will cause suffering for your loved ones for many decades after your suicide.

Keep in mind that it's your brain that is addicted and that your brain is also what is telling you to quit. See the dilemma? Therein lies the secret to why it's so dang hard to quit. Your Addict Brain will do  say anything in the name of self-preservation; Addict Brain will tell you that today is not a good day to quit because life is stressful/it'd be better to quit after X/it'd be better to quit when you didn't have to deal with Y/lies lies lies. Addict Brain will tell you that you've earned "just one" and that if you could quit for "this long" well then you've demonstrated that you can quit any time... lies lies lies, all in the name of self-preservation.

This is about willpower and recognizing the bullshit you will tell yourself to justify just one. No matter what you do, don't have any nicotine today for any reason. Do that every day, take it one day at a time, and after a while the Addict Brain won't stand a chance against the empowerment of being free.

The right thing to do and the hardest thing to do are usually the same thing. Flush your stash. Vow to be quit. Draw a line in the sand.

Kodiak. Even typing the word Kodiak makes me angry. I fucking hate Kodiak.

I suggest getting angry also.

Pm me if you want any advice from an ex kodiak junkie.
