Title: My Quit
Post by: Roy on August 12, 2014, 08:08:00 AM
Hello, all... My name is Roy

After 20 years addicted to nicotine, I am done being a slave. I started allowing nicotine to run my life about 20 years ago when I was in college and also in the Marine reserves, so it was everywhere around me. Grizzly LC Wintergreen has long been my poison of choice and it was easy to go through a can a day... sometimes more.

I have a great wife and kids that are supporting me, but this quit is not for them. It's for me.

More later...

Welcome Roy! Awesome that right off the bat you did two things right: 1.) Nailed roll call for the first time (some really struggle with the concept). 2.) Realize you MUST quit for you. The next week or so is going to suck, I won't lie ... but anything worth having is worth a fighting for, right? It's pretty damn simple here ... you Wake up, piss, post roll, and HONOR the promise you made to your brothers and yourself. Wake up  repeat. Quit one day at a time. We live in the now as addicts, we don't worry about our quit tomorrow. Get to know your November brothers in quit ... get some digits ... weave some accountability. Tell every last person in your life that you've quit, and will not go back! Get something to satisfy the oral fixation ... that alone can cause some real issues with a quit.

Most of all ... know we are all here supporting your quit. Look around here, read all you can ... build your arsenal against nicotine. It's worth it ...

See you on roll tomorrow!

Great choice to quit. It took me 20 years to get tired of being a slave to the poison as well. Read everything on KTC and learn the plan; then follow the plan. The plan works. PM me if you need anything.

What Mogul said. All the good stuff is here somewhere, everywhere. Read and heed, don't re-invent, follow the lead and pretty soon you'll be the lead. Most importantly, keep your word and don't be a stranger. All the cool kids hang out here.

What he said ^^^ Honestly, I didn't help anyone until I was about a week past my day 1. This is how you build accountability. You build up so much that it's impossible to cave without fearing for your life because you would let people down. Own your quit and make it bad assed!

Today is a sad bitter / sweet day for this quitter...

44 days ago, I quit using nicotine.
30 days ago my uncle (61 years old) was diagnosed with a large brain tumor and cancer in several other places.

Last night he passed away into eternity. Please say a prayer for my mother (it was her brother) and the rest of the family today.

It is natural to mourn the loss of family members, friends, and loved ones, but today our family also rejoices because my uncle was confident in his eternal destination. Uncle Carl knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that his soul would spend eternity in Heaven because he believed that Jesus Christ had paid the price for his sins. If you want to share this same confidence, please shoot me a PM and I will be happy to share more.

Today, my heart aches... Today, my heart also rejoices... Today, my quit is stronger...

Thanks for letting me share.

Just a thought on cravings and how they have gradually gotten better...

At 145 days in I have noticed that my cravings started out as, "DIP!! MUST HAVE NICOTINE NOW!!!" and the anxiety was almost unbearable. It seemed like they lasted 10 minutes or more and were very frequent during the day - at least once an hour.

The past couple of weeks I have noticed that cravings have gradually progressed into more of a "hmmm, I'm forgetting something... oh well" and as soon as I recognize that thought as a craving, I tell myself, "You didn't feel that way 10 seconds ago. Just hang on and it will pass." and it does. The whole thought process is over in less than 30 seconds and the frequency is much lower - probably 5 a day.

ODAAT, but EDD

Just think, string a few more "One Day At A Times" and that "hmmm, I'm forgetting something..." turns into nothing but a glancing thought or $hit, I forgot the house keys as I'm closing the front door of the house. It gets infinitely better Roy. I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!

Thank you to each and every quitter that has posted support for me over the past year and has allowed me to support them from time to time. I can honestly say that I would probably be back to dipping by now if not for the accountability and brotherhood I have been able to build here at KTC.

If there is one thing I have learned in the past year, it's that I am just as much a nicotine addict today as I was 365 days ago. I will always be a nicotine addict. I don't know what tomorrow holds, but today you have my word that I will not use nicotine in any form.

Here we are at 2 laps around the sun and I am eternally grateful to the brotherhood and accountability provided by KTC. I would not be quit today without it! I've met many of you in person and hope to meet many more! Thank you!
