Hello,
I am from India. I have been using smokeless tobacco for the last 11 years. I am 29 years of age now. The guilt of using tobacco has been haunting me for a long time now. And i did plan to quit many times. But i could not resist it and kept going back. I just think this is the time to stop. Things may get out of hand if i am gonna delay any more. Each burn or pain inside my mouth making me think more and more about cancer. I have nightmares waking up on being affected with cancer. I do not want to live this life any more. So i decided to quit from today, right now, this moment. Came across this wonderful online community where people help each other to eliminate this dreadful addiction and wanted to be a part of it.
Thank you very much

Hello Praddy, I'm glad you've made the decision to quit tobacco. Read the information on the site, post roll every day, and reach out to other quitters on the forums. The road won't be easy by any means, but this network of guys that have been through the hell of quitting will make things more bearable. I quit with you today, friend.
-
Thanks DerikR. Yes, The road isn't easy by any means. Already, only after few hours i have started feeling it. I will hang on still. Wish you all the best.

Praddy you will have difficult days ahead of you. If I could take those away from you...I wouldn't. Embrace the suck! Nicotine is nothing more than the biggest deception. It is just as addictive as heroin! US Tobacco companies are killers! They know it but money is more valuable to them than human life.
Good choice but guilt is a lower form of motivation. Search for the value of being quit. Once you quit because you found the value...You won't start again.
This is a tough journey. I promise you this, everyday you quit with us, you might be mad at us or wonder how you got yourself into a promise you want to break. Survive the day and the victory, the win and the strength you demonstrated you will love that feeling more than any buzz nicotine could have given you.
Let me say it again. Everyday you quit and keep you word, that is a victory and your victory will feel better than any buzz. It might hurt but you will like it. Welcome!

Hey Praddy, welcome! You're going to want to take a look at the light magenta colored "Welcome Center" tab up top. There you'll find some great info including the why and how of posting roll. Your quit group is February '14 (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=8993) (click here). This is where you'll post your promise every day. Get to know these folks, Praddy, they're gonna help you take your freedom back and they're putting it all on the line, please don't let 'em down. Shout out if you've got any questions.

Welcome to the KTC quit train Praddy. I like to call it that because it is easy to get on the quit train , but it is a bitch to stay aboard at first. We are over 17,000 members strong and will support you all the way. What we do is provide you with the tools to quit and help you along that rough patch of track. We will be there for you every step of the way to freedom. We will be there when you are hurting, when you are in the suck, when you feel like raging, venting or just talking to someone on the phone. Around here, we call that Brotherhood.
Joining us means you will do a few things. First and foremost, you will post Roll. Roll is your daily promise to yourself and all of your new brothers and sisters that you will not use tobacco in any form that day. You will post your name and the number of days you are quit each day in the February 2014 quit group. Each and every day you will post your promise. No exceptions. That is the price of admission to KTC. Nothing more and nothing less. The reason you are put in February is that will be the month that you will celebrate being 100 days free of nicotineÂ…your Hall of Fame date.
Now that you know the basics, it is time to read all you can on this site. Go to the welcome center and that will get you started. Post roll and look up at your inbox (1). That is a personal message from me with my telephone number. Lets get your quit started today. Congrats on taking control of your life. Wayne

Thanks for the awesome support and encouragement. I survived a day with a lot of struggles. I desperately felt like going back to it at one point. But thankfully just didn't. I don't wanna give it up. I will post my progress in the February'14 quit group. Once again, Thank you very much for the encouragement.

Vince – This married quitter lives in Bilaspur, India (yeah I had to google that) with his wife and 4 year old son. He started dipping at the age of 23, in India the major brands are not available so he chewed tobacco leaves (what a bad ass). This quitterÂ’s favorite inappropriate behavior is hitting and cussing the Nic Bitch (the only appropriate bitch to hit). He is going to celebrate his quit day 100 by praying for strength for more plus ones. Vince will certainly be signing up for 200.Â
He offers these words of wisdom “Quitting is the right thing to do, no exceptions.” His favorite TV show is BIGG BOSS (India). He likes Cricket and his favorite team is Indian Cricket Team. Vince is a lawyer and he drives a scooter. He enjoys reading and he is afraid of getting his ass kicked by Dabean and PaddyMac as he indicated that they are like Principals for this November Quit School. It is no surprise that he is inspired by those two quitters. He is inspired by every quitter but the spirit of BJarrett (Brian) has given him goosebumps.
Praddy,
I wanted to welcome you to KTC by pointing out to you that although users from India may be rear, your timing is impeccable. Today is the 100th day of HOF (Hall of Fame) Day for another quitter from India. I posted Vince's HOF Speech above so you could see it as a reference.
I hope this can serve as motivation for you today,
Pinched

Thanks Pinched. It was pleasure knowing that he was able to quit and last for 100 days. I know how difficult that is as i have tried it a few times myself without success. It is inspirational to hear this story and many more on this site about how people cope up to the cravings they have after using this poison for years. My second day is almost over and i didn't slip yet. I am not gonna give it up. When i look at my introduction i feel i wasn't open enough about myself. I am a computer engineer by profession. And just like most of the other Indians i love cricket as a sport plus Football and Lawn Tennis. I am a movie buff and loves all the good movies irrespective of the language they are in. I like to drive and read occasionally. And i am single.

Here is a brief timeline on how my quit is going, I'm not sure if it's helpful or not but I made it for another new quitter and he seemed to like it.
The good news is that you understand how to use your tools and you have some good fight in you. The better news is that it gets so much easier very quickly. Now, I realize that "quickly" is a very relative term- as when you are suffering minute to minute, 5 or 6 weeks seem like 100 years. In reality, 5 or 6 weeks is not a very long time.
Keep in mind, I am no expert and I am just going off of what I have experienced the past 73 days. My "suck scale" looked something like this:
Day 1-3: bad fog, my brain didn't work at all. Very little sleep and couldn't take a dump to save my life. I wanted a dip every second of each day.
Day 4-10: Pretty much out of the fog but bad, bad cravings and headache every second of the day
Day 11-14: My cruise control days, I didn't think about dipping much and craves were few and far between. Sleeping good but too much.
Day 15-21 Starting to get my energy level back up. Craves about 2-4 per day and short. The first thing every morning, I started to get an empty and sick feeling in my stomach when I thought about not being able to dip. Started losing my temper easily.
Day 22-25 No real changes, cruising along but feeling a little depressed. I started learning how to hate my addiction and was really mad about it.
Day 26- 30: Wow, I was starting to gain a lot of weight. Weird how I replaced Cope with Ice Cream and cake. I don't even eat sweets but here I am 10 lbs heavier. I don't care, I'm not dipping and the craves are mild.
Day 31-38: Freaking fog was back, some nasty craves and my temper way out of control. WTF!
Day 39-60: The roller coaster days. Mod craves followed by no craves, bad temper and mild depression. A difficult time but I was not giving up at this point.
Day 61-73: The best days by far. Seldom think about dip, temper is way better, sleeping like a normal person and just feeling pretty darn good. I am stacking up these good days to recharge my batteries and prepare for the next round of fights".
Day 74- 85: Really good days. Strong cravings when I have too many drinks so I have been careful with drinking. Normal days are now 0-1 crave. My temper has been completely under control for 2 weeks now.
Day 86-99: Zero craves, zero dip dreams and temper under control. The strong craves when I drink are also gone. I am disgusted when I see someone dip. Proudly watching my group hit HOF one at a time; which is just how we quit, one day at a time. My guard is still held high as I know the fight is far from over.
Day 100-112: I am on a high as I have reached my first goal. My guard is held the highest it has ever been in because I will not disappoint all those who have helped me.

This addiction knows no boundaries. Congratulations on making a great decision. Only worry about quitting today. Once you've posted roll, if you are a man of your word, today won't be a problem. It is clear from your posts that you are a man of integrity and character, so posting roll first thing when you wake up, and I mean FIRST THING (before you head to the bathroom, make coffee, brush teeth etc) is that pledge to yourself and all of us that today will be nicotine free. One day at a time.
Some people can win this battle alone I guess. I haven't met any of them though... Without the connections, relationships, and accountability of this website I would have chewed through 322 cans of kodiak in 2013. Instead, I spend a few seconds each day making a promise. You can win this fight - if a dude like me can do it, you can too.
I know you've probably heard this or read it, and probably thought it was all bullshit... But quitting will change your life. These intros are fascinating. Go to almost any of them for people that are 50 or more days in to their quit... Read their first 2 or 3 posts. Then read their latest ones. Good stuff on this site.
I think I'm just about all the way around the world from you, but I'm quit with you today. One day at a time.

Thanks ParadigmDawg for the timeline you put up. It gives me an expectation of what i might go through the rest of the days in my life. I see that days 1 to 3 were the difficult days in your time. I am in that exact stage fighting each and every second. I am glad that you were able to achieve your first goal of 100 days and feeling excited. Wish you all the very best with the rest of the days in your life.
Thanks for the advice, Worktowin. Your words made a definite impact inside me. Those were strong yet caring and challenging. I have not been successful fighting this battle alone. I will need this community and will actively roll each and every day.

Praddy,, you have a great quit going. Stay on the site. Read, read and read. The more you get to know this enemy the better. The poison knows you,, believe me! I always recommend reading and learning everything you can about addiction and nicotine.
The time line that Pdawg put up is great, but all you need to be concerned with is right now. I know your in the first stages of quit. Take it one minute at a time my friend,, one second if you have to. Don't worry about posting roll every day praddy. Worry about the roll post you made today. Quitting for the rest of your life is a long time my friend,, that's why we do it one day at a time. Glad to be quit with you.

I agree with you srans. Sometimes we just think too far ahead that we forget the present. This is a wonderful concept being followed in this site. This is the core principle behind achieving every goal. Nothing is achieved within a single day. There is no magic formula. I will fight minute by minute and day by day. Thanks for your support.

Praddy - hows it going these days? Lets have an update now that the nicotine has left!!!!

You can do this!!!

And just like most of the other Indians i love cricket as a sport...
ok man i just have to say t20 is way better than test cricket. i mean how fucking annoying that you play 4 days and because some clown decides to waste a bunch of time he salvages a draw even though his team is like 200 runs down. or worse yet i have to declare at like 410-5 just so your sorry ass team can bat enough so i can get a win. that's just nuts.
-
@Worktowin
Going fantastic i must say :). I have struggled a day with cravings, Day 3. Last two days have been great. I have been able to sleep properly. And no headache at all. I would think my challenge would come in to keep going on and on. One bad day can hit me hardly. So i am cautious each and every minute not to give in. I try not to think about nicotine. It has been working for me.
Thanks for the great support. It wouldn't have been possible without it. You guys inspire me to come here every day and post my roll.
@razd611
Yes true, One day at a time works more efficiently than saying forever. It definitely has a psychological impact on us. Thanks for the tremendous support. I have been going good.
@Syndrome
hahaha.. Test cricket is the purest form of cricket :D.. So i am a purist :). Showing your skills for 5 days isn't easy. As the name suggest Tests "test" your skills. :P

man i look at the 3rd and 5th test of the ashes this year and say 'what kind of screwball decides that this should be a draw?' the only skill on display by england in the 5th test was 'how long can we delay this so we get a draw.'

Hi praddy!
I think I've missed you on roll call the past couple of days but maybe you were bumped? A smart guy like you wouldn't abandon this plan. Just wanted to check in from around the globe.
-
Worktowin,
I didn't/woulldn't abandon the plan :). I had been posting the roll a little late into the Indian standard time morning which is midnight for you guys every day. I am usually the last one to post for the day because it would be the morning for me. Let me know if you guys want me to post the roll at a different time. I would be ok to do that as well. Thanks for the support. :D

As long as your name is on the roll at what you consider first thing in the morning, everybody will be ok. Sorry I hit the panic button, but very happy you are doing well!!! Keep quittin India style!

And as one of the guys that generally rolls the boards over from one quit day to another at midnight EST, I can vouch for Praddy that he is usually "under the wire" on his posting...which I attributed to the international time differences. Stay quit Praddy, you are doing great and I am proud to be quit with you. Wayne

nice job praddy. You have taken off the nicotine leash. Awesome. You may be the first person I've ever advised to post early in YOUR day, and not to worry about what time the "normal" KTC day is. I would say that you want to do your best to ensure as many people as possible get used to seeing your name on the roll. More specifically, you want as many people as possible to start sending "WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU PRADDY" emails if they notice that your name is missing from roll.
-
@Worktowin/Wayne.
Thank you very much for the support and for checking in. Quite frankly i was seriously worried before joining this site how would i ever get rid of the nicotine addiction. But now, the confidence is there and growing seeing all you guys out there who have done this and the way you keep going.
I can travel a fair distance each day now.
@Zam,
Thanks, Absolutely agree with you. I need as many people seeing my name in the roll as possible so that they can give that kick in the butt in case i miss that odd day, by reminding me of my goal.
-
Keep it going Praddy I"m glad to see you making it. Been following and cheering for you since your day one. You've built a good support network and momemtum, keep them going!

Thanks guys. Its been quite a journey. The one i thought i would never be able to achieve. But thanks to this site and you guys here i am living the dream. I like this freedom life too much to let it go. The change here due to this site and my will has made other changes to my life also. I am sleeping well. Working out each day to stay healthy. No alcohol. The desire is to be a better healthy person. Once again thank you very much for the support and encouragement.
-
Praddy, I was flying with a very nice man today who grew up in Dallas. He married a woman from India. He was telling me about Pan? I believe it is the tobacco most people use there. Something about a red dye or color. Can you expand on it any so that we may understand your lifestyle a little more?
Mogul.
-
Keep pounding through it Praddy. You are doing great and I am proud to be quit with you. I know the past month has been difficult but your determination and will power over nicotine and her addictive charms effectively demonstrate your commitment to freedom. Well done brother.
-
Yes Mogul. Pan is a form of tobacco here in India. Its a betel leaf combined with areca nut and cured tobacco. Pan is chewed and finally spat out or swallowed. Its red once you start chewing it. Its the more natural form of tobacco. I have never used it. But my dad still uses it. Then you have the company made tobacco. They come in sachet mostly for either chewing or dipping. Its normally black in color. I started it when i was 18 with dipping. Then when i was about 19 the pouch came along. Since then i have been using pouch, together for about 11 years until last month. Most of these are now banned in different states of India because of the excessive cancer causing chemicals found in them, but unfortunately its readily available in the black market. Another scary fact is that, India accounts to 86 percent Oral Cancer Figure across the World.
Thanks Wayne. Its been a tough time yes. And i am extremely glad i am over that tough period. Now the challenge is to not give in. Quitting for a single day has helped a lot. Thanks for the wonderful support and encouragement. :)

Its a good thing this train had some down time yesterday, because we now take our longest trip yet, all the way to Bangalore, India. I know what you’re thinking, “you can’t drive a train to India.” Well, here’s our little secret - it’s winter and the Bering Straight is froze over. So we popped up through Canada crossed over to Russia, went down to the Indian subContinent and BAM! right to Praddy’s door.
This single guy is a computer engineer whoÂ’s nicotine addiction started when he was 18. Now, 11years later, Praddy has finally freed himself. The bitch we all love to hate knows no borders. While she might hide in a can or pouch here in the Americas, in India she comes in the form of a little sachette and is very cheap. (like any dirty whore) Praddy credits his new interest in bodybuilding as what pushed him over the edge to quit. Oh, and the fact that cancer rotting his face off scared the shit out of him. With the help of KTC he has gone from not being able to do anything without chew, to being 100 days free. Good work man! Dave1903 and wmcatty are given credit for supporting PradyÂ’s quit but the fear of Worktowin coming over there and beating his ass with a cricket paddle definitely helped too. Which leads us to a little cultural field tripÂ…
Since we came all this way we might as well take a moment to see what india has to share. The sport of cricket is not a hobby of PraddyÂ’s but a PASSION. Ordinarily we would think he is embellishing, but these guys are like soccer hooligans for the sport. For those not familiar, cricket is kinda like baseball but uses a paddle and has a scoring system i don't understand. The British introduced it, but India took it to the next level. Praddy doesnÂ’t watch much TV but when he does, itÂ’s the Indian National Cricket Team games. I wonder what their mascot is?Â….
Since Praddy is sticking around for 200 days we can learn a bit more about this sport named after a bug. His insight thus far is, “You quit one day at a time. No matter what the withdrawal symptoms are, no matter how you are struggling with it, don't give up because this is not about anything or anyone else, but it is the last wall between your life and death.” Well said Praddy. Welcome aboard
Its time for everyone to grab their curry in a hurry cause we got some traveling to do. With our new quitter aboard itÂ’s back to the states with the wisdom of Tyler Durden echoing...
“You're not your job. You're not how much money you have in the bank. You're not the car you drive. You're not the contents of your wallet.
You're not your fucking khakis. You're the all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world.”
