Title: new guy from Texas quitting
Post by: Chris z on October 02, 2014, 02:31:00 AM
New guy from Houston area quitting and man it is something to deal with. I'm forty something years old and it is kicking my tail. I fish a lot and that makes it even harder. I found this site when i got bumps under my tongue after i quit and thought great i quit and get cancer. I found this site and realized its just part of the process, so wish me luck.

I'm originally from La Grange and rather new to KTC too although I'm currently on day 60. This site is a Godsend and it works if you work it. Since you just quit your Quit Group will be January 2015 since you will hit 100 days in January and enter the hall of fame. Go to the welcome center and read all you care to and please post roll in your group immediately. Roll Call is the hallmark of KTC and it's the strongest reason why this site works. But remember, it's entirely up to you to be honest to yourself and your quit group. PM some folks and get their digits so you can actually call or text them if you feel yourself slipping or are out of service and can't post roll by yourself. Welcome home man!!

This site can help you kick your nicotine addiction (not a habit) to the curb. We don't use words like try or hope as they are just another excuse for our addictive brains to tell us another lie. There are no short cuts, but here are some links that will help you navigate this site.
This a NO NICOTINE site. End of discussion.  Are you quit or just stopping? (http://www.killthecan.org/facts-figures/the-difference-between-stopper-quitter/)
Best thing to do is get familiar with this site and start building your quit defense.
Highly recommend you go here: Welcome Center (http://w11.zetaboards.com/QS_Xtreme/forum/55560/), Getting Acclimated (http://w11.zetaboards.com/QS_Xtreme/topic/1009563/1/),  What to Expect (http://www.killthecan.org/your-quit/what-to-expect-when-you-quit-dipping/)

Your quit  Decision  (http://www.killthecan.org/facts-figures/the-decision-to-quit-dip/) MUST be 100% about you. Anything short of that sets you up for failure by allowing your addict brain to blame a given situation as reason for you to go back to the can. Quitting out of fear, based on a medical issue, will fade as soon as the doctor or dentist gives you a clean bill of health.

Luck is for pussies. Here we DO. Change your mindset and drink the KTC koolaid. Nothing else works better than this site and its methods. Hop on board and glad you are here!

We all attach something nostalgic to our addiction. For you it's fishing. For me it was every damn thing I did all day long. The nic bitch is a hell of a romantic. She whispers in your ear while you are fishing, but meanwhile, you are paying her to kill you. Sounds like an infected whore to me. You will probably catch more without that skank around. Go post roll in January 2015.

Chris, Don't worry about the fishing triggers. Why? Because LIFE is one big trigger. You can do this ODAAT with 20000 other quitters. Read up, post up, keep it serious, get into chat room, get digits from your group.
Lots of water, seeds, exercise, whatever it takes to "not" put the poison in your mouth Today. Just today...
The more you quit the more you'll "be quit"!

Welcome,

I am also from Texas and I quit 3 days ago.

I know fishing. I know the life we live as Texans and how tobacco goes hand and hand. Let us be the exception.

I am always willing to tell how I feel at the moment. Better now than a couple hours ago and I just ate BBQ.

Here is to us. Completing this journey.

The more the better. Can't have enough Texans on here. Welcome to KTC. Let's all give the Nic Bitch a Texas sized ass whoopin'.

Well I've got a couple really good reasons that you'll keep dippin; 1 your mouth is healing, 2 you didn't post roll (so you don't have a promise), 3 you're going fishin and 4 you're 40 something and haven't got cancer yet so--- one more fishin trip with dip won't hurt. Ah hell just one more dip won't hurt, you can quit tomorrow.
We've all heard and used the same excuses. Don't be a damn fool, post roll and quit! I hate these déjà vu memories!

Welcome, you've made the right choice by coming here. I believe this place and the people here are helping me save my life... something I was not capable of doing on my own prior to coming here.

However, with that said, lose the talk about luck. I know it's an expression that you probably just tossed out there, but if you really want to be successful in this, you need to shift your mindset.

You WILL post roll every day promising not to use.
You WILL honor that promise each hour of every day until the day is done.
You WILL reach out to members via txt, message, etc... if you every feel weak.
Repeat...

Quit simple right? There is no luck involved in any of those steps above, only the assumption you are man enough to stand behind your promise(roll) and that you actually want to make this happen. So... make it happen!
