Title: new here
Post by: travis. son on May 02, 2013, 12:15:00 PM
I have made roll for 3 days now. I have tried to quit before - once went over a year without! Obviously I need to try another way. My biggest challenge (fire season) is upon me...I will struggle seeing all my bros with a chew in!

Hello Travis, congrats on posting roll, and at day three I am sure you are deep into the suck.

Well, what is the reason you want to quit? If you figure out and share that reason you may be more apt to fight watching others around you. For me I was just done with it. I realized that I did not need the shit and in a quest for better health, weight loss and all of that I decided I was done.

You have to quit for you, that I do know. Making a daily promise here, is going to help with that. I dont know most of these great guys and gals here, but I am not going to let them down, weird how that works.

In the mean time settle in and do some reading, tell us more about yourself, the more you get involved in the site, the more accountable you will become. Come on in the water is fine.

Pity them, don't envy them.

firejim index.php?showuser=10000 (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showuser=10000) is a badass quitter in my April 11 group. You can guess by his name what he does. Reach out to him. Send him a message and exchange numbers. People of similar backgrounds make for great support.

You can and will do this!

Hear ye, Hear ye.

the great Parputt says it well, and hope the difference can be seen in something so simply stated

If you envy, you are not in control

If you pity, you have started to take that control and will lead to staying quit with an internal strength.

It happened to me, I would have to check my intro, but there came a point in my first 50 days when I saw someone dipping nearby me, and I got sick to my stomach and shook my head in pity for him.....I knew then I was getting it.

So get to that point. I quit with you today

Don't let that be an excuse. I didn't. Nicotine addiction is rampant in the fire service. Overcome that and stay quit. I can tell you how it will go. Your "bros" will give you shit at first. After a few weeks they'll realize you're serious. Some will support you. Some may tempt you with a can when they become jealous of your progress. Then, a few months into your quit, you'll be disgusted by them. A few will ask how you did it. Some will just be mad because you're more of a badass than they are, and that don't fly very well with firefighter types. How do I know? I lived it. Look up there at the pictures at the top of this page. That was a training drill on my 2-year quit anniversary.

Stop by The Fire Station thread (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=4697) sometime when you have a few minutes. Not always active, but there are several of us lurking around here.

Travis,

Congrats on a great choice. You know the drill...post roll everyday. That one year you took off was baby shit compared to what you're about to do. Only difference is that you're going to take it ONE DAY AT A TIME this time.

There is no finish line and you'll always be an addict. But you can get back in control. YOU CAN DO THIS.

Post roll, read all you can, stay on this site and YOU CAN DO IT.
