After many years of promising my self I was going to quit - I woke up Monday 4/14 and said - I am done! Going through a rough day two - lack of concentration, poor sleep from night before, etc - but know this will pass in a couple of days (hopefully).
-
MUpig,
You made the right choice.
Next few days will really suck but you will make it. The reasons you will make it are because you will do the following:
you will quit one day at a time.
you will post roll call every damn day.
you will read read and read.
you will build a support group here.
I quit with you.
I am day 63....and let me tell you it feels damn good.

Words to live by. I'm on day 47 and every day feels better than the one before.
Not gonna repeat what Kayak said but will say it works if you follow it but you gotta want to be quit. Welcome to the nut house. It's a bumpy ride but so damn worth it.

I'm quit with you MUpig.

I have 4 really tough times
1) Wake up in morning and take dog out for walk (just need to plow through this)
2) Golfing (haven't tried this yet - but am guessing it will be tough)
3) Late night (right before bed - might actually get some sleep)
4) Believe it or not - right after getting done at health club (I had a really bad craving after that one).

Welcome and you made a great decision. I'm 58 days quit after chewing for 33 years. So, you can be quit, if you want it. The next few days will suck, but it does slowly get easier. After 58 days, I still have craves, but I can get thru them fairly easy. PM me if I can help and I'll quit with you.

Welcome MUpig, congrats on making a great decision. Quitting with you today. If you need a number or anything, let me know.

Welcome Jpiggy. You are at the right place if you really want to quit. Everyone has triggers. Just remember that you can do anything without dip that you did with it. The cravings will pass whether you dip or not. Breath deep, drink water, exercise, use seeds/fake chew/mints/tooth picks (whatever works)....just don't put that shit in your mouth again. You can do this if the rest of us can. Your sleep will be screwed up for a while but it gets better. Believe it or not you can golf just as well without dip and you won't look retarded.
Read all you can on this site as education and hatred of the nic bitch is what you will use to win. You got this!
PM me if you need anything.

Keep on taking it one day and one battle at a time. I have tried to "quit forever" and failed. It is too tough a task. Very few can get their head around it. It is, on the other hand, fairly simple to quit for 24 hours. I can endure damn near anything for a day. We'll meet back here tomorrow and discuss it again.
What say you??
-
I quit with you today pig, and not just because pigs make me hungry and horny.
-
Quitting with you today. I am day 29 feeling pretty good most days. Its going to suck until it doesn't and then it won't.

Read and learn. Chat and stay strong.
1 problem + nicotine = 2 problems.

Day 5 no nic. Feeling really good about this. My wife and family are starting to notice a different me. (BTW - I haven't told them I quit - as I have let them down too many times about promising to quit). I need to do this for myself!!!!
This will be the first weekend nic free. I am sure there will be some rough patches - but will continue to plow through. Thanks to all the support and from my 2014 July Quit Group! Believe it or not - it helps.

I don't know that I completely agree with your decision to keep your quit secret. Now... it's your life, obviously, do what you will... this is just my $.02.
Add another layer of accountability bro... one that is closer and more immediate... tell your family. Your wife at the very least. You will be surprised at how that extra layer can really put some fire in your quit. I think most of the quitters here will tell you the same thing. Not telling them for fear of failing them is a chink in your armor. Your attitude needs to be one of resolution. You WON'T fail them because you are HERE! Take all the hiding, hoping, and trying... and piss on them. You're done. You're quit. Own it.
Rock on...

Listen to applejack. I would even show your wife KTC and let her see what it's all about.
We take our quits extremely seriously here and we eliminate caving as an option every damn day by pledging our no nic promises to each other each morning. If you stick around and work the plan you will succeed. Go all in brother. Make this your final quit. Commit to it and work the plan.

AJ and Claws have it right. I told everybody. Coworkers, convenience store clerks, mom and dad in law, brothers, wife, kids...everyone I know. The more layers of armor you can strap on the better. Everyday someone asks me how I am doing with quitting. I tell them how many days. They laugh that I know the exact day count. I never forget that KTC is the layer of Kevlar that I cannot survive without. Quit with you today MUPig!

Day 6 and still nic free. Have had some big family issues come up that with my mother, sisters that I now need to take care of this weekend (need to travel to go and fix!) Funny thing is that I previously used to use this as an excuse to dip, but I don't feel the urge. I am sure that without this group, tools and support - it would be an easy cave excuse - but no way!!!
-
Congrats on six days. Stay strong. There's no good excuse to start dipping again. Take advantage of the tools and support here. Quitting with you today.

This ^^^^ comes from deep, srans likey. The way i see it you've posted up for 6 days and caving is off the table. I pray all goes well with the families. I pray your trip goes well and when you get back everything is hunky dory.
It's nice to see someone with this kind of determination and drive. The other day someone caved because their hooch didn't come in the mail. WTF! Great job my friend. Keep your word, one day at a time. It's worth it.

Keep it up dude!!

Easter Sunday - Day 7!!!!! The nic urges are less and less frequent. Feeling rejuvenated! Now need to work on the extra few pounds I gained last week. Need to get back in the groove on what I eat.
Nic No More!!!!

Quit with you.

Day 8 - Start of new week and nic free. Nic urges, headaches, fog - pretty much all gone. Refocusing on better eating habits and working out at gym.
I am probably not suppose to post every day - but it is helpful to me to keep this log.
Also - I apologize to whoever I keep pissing off on the post roll July 2014. I don't know what the hell happened today with that and by the time I fixed it, I was already too late.
I'll get it right sooner or later

Looking forward to tomorrow - double digits (10 days). Celebrating by making home-made beef jerky.
No nic today and forever. Best decision I have made!

D40 - That meat needs to sit in the marinade....got to plan ahead just a little:-) Seriously MU, ODAAT!!!! I kind of started off posting a lot in my intro so that I could look back on it and never forget what it was like. It can become a diary to look back on. Quit on!

Congrats. MU!! Believe me it gets better and better. Everything done without dip is better over time. Didn't think I'd be able to hunt or fish without it and now have done both multiple times with no problems!! Just make your promise early in the day and keep it for 24 hours. Don't worry about anything but today! You will do this !!!

Sweet Packer icon brutha. Unless it's UGA....then no comment. Glad to see you made it through the first few tough days. Keep focusing everyday as things should be easier...but not easy. I have been quit for over 300 days and still have to fight off urges, almost every day. Remember one day at a time is what works for everyone here.
-
Well - here we are at the 14 day mark of the no nic chapter. Can't believe how much better I feel, the renewed energy and a fresher outlook on life!!!!. Why I didn't do this sooner is beyond me.
Only downfall so far - despite a fairly consistent working out pattern, I have managed to actually put some pounds on. Now I need to focus on eating better to avoid the no nic 15 pound weight gain.

Same thing here. 27 days quit.
Been eating everything I see (except dip). Perhaps everything tastes better now that the poison is out of my system.
I've been doing my best to just drink water when I'm hungry and it's not "mealtime". But, I still eat too much. Anyways food is definitely the lesser of two evils :)
Quit with you!

Well
Day 16 - and today is my first trip to the dentist in 30+ years where I won't have to floss, brush and rinse in the car before I go into the dentist office in order to get the dip leftovers out of my mouth prior to the visit. Also the first time I don't have some type of dip scar on my cheek and / or gums.
First time in a long time I am looking forward to the visit.

Two thumbs up from the dentist. Gum levels okay, no mouth ulcers from constantly doing chew, 2 fillings that need replacing - but no major issues!
Wow - I used to dread going to the dentist - this is easier now!.
Next big challenge will come over the next couple of weeks. Have my first business trip scheduled for next week (yes - I used to dip on the plane). The following week is a 2 week business trip to the UK.
But until then - focus on quitting today and deal with tomorrow when it comes.

Hey it's greAt to see your quit going well. Keep it up from another long-term nic slave. I wanted to say that I wrote about travel in my thread because I enjoyed it more than I thought I would early in my quit. The freedom from having to dose up for the addiction is amazing feeling. Get ready for some real joy if you can give yourself some positive perspective like that. Sure there will be craves but you no longer have to give in to them and you will have plenty of experience proving that point by then. Quit on bro!
-
Day 22. First day of travel with no dip. Went surprisingly smooth. No urges. No panic. I could have not done this well without support from fellow quitters. Thanks for all of the advise and support along the way. Keeping on with the quit One damn day at a time.
Now beginning to focus on the weight gain, as this is really beginning to piss me off. I have gained 12 pounds since I quit. I have been working out 5 days a week but kept on gaining.
Special shout out to Doc, MCO, zquitter, yetmig, jayd41, brettlees and everyone who has shown support.

I can't wait for mine. Dentist watched me grow up, braces, sponsored my DYB team, college, move back, all that jazz. He'll be pumped that he doesn't have to mitigate the poison or wonder who to refer me to once I got cancer. I'll be proud to walk in his office a 45ish day quitter at my next appointment.

As for the weight, the mantra around here is a few pounds after some months of quit is easier to lose than cancer. That's the bottom line. Forgive yourself. AND, i follow a sort of "paleo" diet- try to cut all sugar and all grains/flour. When I fell off that wagon, sure enough I gained. If I stayed true, my weight was not a problem despite what I ate. You are already exercising so maybe that's part of it. Again, though, keep your quit as your first priority becuase that's the most important thing for your health right now. Even bread and pasta was easier for me to give up than nicotine!
Keep up the great work, and keep building your quit-toolkit!

It has been awhile since my last updates so I thought I would give some insights on how I have been able to plow through some times I thought would be tough.
Just returned from a two week trip to the UK. The 9 hour journey flight previously would have been filled with numerous dips, but was easily able to get through it (with the help of SM packets). Returned and had no troubles either.
Upon return got rid of the Smokey Mountain. Realized didn't really need that either.
This weekend was tough. Thanks to the sage advice from many on this board about the temptations lurking on a long weekend, I was able to stand strong. Yard work ( no problem - but several thoughts of how this was the most enjoyable time to dip) and golfing with my baseball buddies, all of who are still serious dippers (or dip shits). That was probably the most difficult as they continued to try get me to have just one. Without this support group, I can visualize how that would have been an easy cave moment.
Just staying quit one day at a time. Thanks to all the fellow quitters and supporters.

Wow - day 100 has arrived and makes me excited to shoot for day 101!
I never thought I would have been able to get to this milestone. Back in April when the fuck you nic bitch urge hit - I was thinking making it a week would be a milestone. Then 30 days would be a milestone. It was beyond my imagination that I could get anywhere close to 100. I always had an easy excuse to give in to the urge.
I will say - I have stunned many of my friends - many who have know me for as long as I have been dipping. Seeing me go a day without dip was unimaginable to them.
My goals for the next 100 is to:
1) quit every damn day - no day is more important than today
2) do a much better job in supporting fellow quitters especially newbies and follow them through on their journey
3) be entertained, but avoid the drama that can come with these boards
4) lose some of this quit fat that has accumulated over the last 100 days
Time to keep on quitting - and thanks to all of my fellow quitters and supporters!!!!
