I'm three days in, my quit date is May 15, 2012. I've been on Chantix a little over a month and was supposed to quit one week in, but caved. I'm 41, have two daughters, one 11, the other 9. I've tried to quit a special occasions like births, birthdays, New Years, anniversaries, etc, etc, etc. The most I have made was 9 days back sometime in the 90s. I started dipping when I was 16 (I think), smoked for awhile as a teenager and in college on and off, but always came back to the snuff as it had more of what I wanted, Nicotine! I've tried the gum, therapy, hypnosis, etc, but always come back to the snuff. I'm a cyclist, hence my handle, and I am starting to feel the snuff is affecting my health. I donated blood last month and my BP was 135/90. I have high cholesterol and been on meds for that for several years as well. I have daily thoughts/anxiety about getting oral cancer, given the amount of time I've been on it.
The Chantix seems to be helping a lot. It almost makes me nauseous when I dip after a week of being on Chantix. Before my quit date, I was down to a dip or two per day. It was that late night watching TV or being on the computer dip, or early morning processing emails before going to work dip. Worried about car trips, fishing, lawn mowing, working in the garage, or late night at the office, in the near future. Right now I am just focused on getting past the nine days.
Thanks,
Robert

Congrats on your decision. Three days is huge.
First. I have a few questions for ya.
Who are you quitting for?
How bad do you want this on a scale of 1-10?
Are you a man of your word?
Second, some thoughts on your new quit.
Worry about today. Yesterday is long gone, tomorrow never comes, all you can control is the here and now. Today.
We have a web of accountability that holds us up and together. The foundation of that web is accountability. We maintain that accountability by doing what we call posting roll.
Posting roll is a daily signature on a list next to your quit brothers and sisters.
That signature is your promise to them and yourself that you will not use nicotine in any form today.
Post up. Keep your word. Repeat. Easily one of the hardest things you will ever do.
Check out the WELCOME CENTER up and to the left.
Read up on why and how we post roll.
Make that promise. Keep your word. Repeat.
Commence the freedom.

Robert I also used special events to try to quit always blew it. I was preparing to quit, used some chantix mixed some fake snuff with cope, did all those things. It wasn't until I flushed the shit and climbed on board and posted my promise for the day that i was truly successful. I quit for me! no one else. that daily promise means so much to me. I will not let myself or my quit brothers down once Ipost roll. You can do it too. Chantix is fine it does have some side effects for some people but it has no nicotine. some try fake dip its good for oral fixation others just plain cold turkey. All are acceptable as long as no nicotine enters your body through and orifice. PM me if you need anything!

Sorry dude, but pills and patches are for pussies. There are no shortcuts. Nobody can do this for you...not even a pill. The only way is to commit, post roll, and live free one day at a time. But here's the good news...if you commit to quitting, I mean really fucking commit to quitting, you can do it. Stop waiting on a pill to do it for you. What are you scared of? You're 3 days in. That is a HUGE start dude! Congrats!!!
Read all you can, embrace the suck and learn to enjoy this. Really feel it. You're in the ring, toe to toe with the Nic Bitch and you're winning. And guess what...that fucking pill isn't doing it for you.
Look around on this site...look at the rolls...look at the HoF speeches. What you're seeing is a ton of bad-ass, determined mother-fuckers....not a bunch of scared pill-poppers.
Flush the pills, tell your doctor he can keep them. YOU DON'T NEED THEM. You're a bad-ass quitter, too.

That's pretty bad advice. He should talk to his doctor about properly stopping the chantix use if he wants to stop using it. I'm pretty sure you're supposed to wean yourself off of it like certain anti-depressants and not just stop cold turkey after being on it for a month.
Again, talk to your doctor if you want off the chantix.

Whether nicotine dependency was established and/or maintained by being chewed, smoked, drank, snuffed, sprayed, swallowed, sucked, licked or patched, in the end there is only one way out - no nicotine today.

Up until very recently, I thought chantix was slang for all this anal snussing these kids are doing nowadays.
Just sayin.

Kids will do anything these days won't they? I mean do you know why you get carded at walmart when you buy the canned air to clean your computer? Or Robotussin cough medicine? Kids figured out how to get high from that stuff.
Dumbasses!

I was invited to a frogging the holes party once. They required you to dress up like a harry potter movie character. I passed on it.

You have to wean yourself off Chantix when you want to stop it. Chantix is working great for me. No side effects at all. I started it before I found this site. I think the Chantix and the Kill the Can site and your quit family here is a powerfull combo. But number one is---- YOU! YOU decide if you are going to put that shit in your mouth. The Chantix will not stop you, your family will not stop you, no one will stop you from putting a chew in your mouth. Only you! I know it sounds like I talk pretty tough for only being quit for 10 days. But for me I feel very powerfull in my quit and I think I have both Chantix and kill the can to thank for it.

The question of Chantix came up a couple of weeks ago and I got my ass reamed out royally by a moderator for considering using it. And I got this reply from Chewie as to the use of chantix. I will say never stop taking it without the slow withdrawal as with many of the antidepressents. Kubrick is right on.
So is chantix a inappropriate product to use when quiting on KTC?Â

Chantix is an acceptable product to use as it contains no nicotine.
That said, there are some side effects / issues that have been reported.

Thanks for the welcome, I think. Regarding dipshit's questions:
Who are you quitting for? My daughters, wife, and me in that order.
How bad do you want this on a scale of 1-10? 11.
Are you a man of your word? Absolutely.
I'll go post roll now.
I've had a 25 year addiction to snuff. I've tried quitting hundreds of times. I'm one step short of selling my soul to the devil. I'm several steps past taking a pill or chewing some gum. If y'all want to be tough guys behind a keyboard on the internet and call me a pussy or other crap, go ahead. We all know who is acting like the real pussy though. Y'all have a strange way of welcoming people to your group.

Strangly this is normal.... 'Crazy'
The way this works is quite strange but very effective I would say they want to make sure you are serious about quitting there have been many before you and will be many after you who think they want to quit but dont have the stones to do it.....
Not to say thats you but the support from here is awesome and thats just the way it goes.
I would stress to you that this should be about what YOU want and YOU need to want this more for YOU than for anyone else.
I have a wife and 4 great kids but I quit for me and me alone and then let them enjoy the new me, that way I only have I to blame B)
Post roll ...keep your promise ....repeat daily
PM me if you need some numbers or anything else bro!
-
Cannon - you are in the fog. You can't think straight. No worries...that's normal. And it is part of the healing process.
Nobody is attacking you. It is just that you don't need pills...period. When you post roll, you give your word that you will go all day without nicotine come Hell or highwater. There are no conditions, no exceptions, no provisions for a stupid fucking pill.
Anyone can go one day...ANYONE. You just decide to do it. Then you wake up the next day, post roll first thing in the morning, and do it again. That's how it is done.
Pussies make excuses, set future quit dates and waste our time talking about what they're about to do. Quitters do one thing...quit. Posting roll is how you do that.
I'm pumped that you took offense. That means you're in the ring fighting the Nic Bitch. And you have all of us on your side, brother!!! Welcome to the fight!!! PM me if you need any encouragement or want my number.
I also considered Chantix...someone on here gave me the statistal success rate...might as well take tic-tacs as far as I can tell. I didn't need pills...you don't need pills...YOU CAN DO THIS, BROTHER!!! I believe in you.
-
Thanks for the support Bean. Yeah I am in one hell of a fog right now. Side effects may include..hostility, aggression 'bang head' , etc. I'm not using today come hell or high water.
Got to get out of the office now as that is a major trigger when everyone leaves.
Peace,
Rob

I've been hesitant to bring up Chantix after my less than pleasant Introduction post to KTC a little over three months ago. Got the whole pills are for pussies and taking Chantix is like shoving snus up your ass bit. Anyhow, I'm still here after a 107 days when over 2/3 of our quit group are gone, so they can go royally fuck themselves 'Finger' . Not that I credit the meds with making my quit successful, as I truly credit this site and y'all for helping me.
I was wanting to know if anyone else here that took Chantix might of gone through the whole descending dosage stuff after 3 months quit and how they did. I'm down to a split pill a day which is hardly anything, and I'm starting to notice some mild cravings after awhile of not having them. I also know that I'm in a hotel room away from the wife and kids when I used to dip like a fiend, which also could be part of it. Not gonna dip today, so no worries there.
Feel free to PM me if you don't want to post your experience publicly (like it should even fucking matter).
Rob
I think most people know that this is only a no nicotine site. Nothing wrong with using Chantix or anything else a doctor prescribes as long as it does not have nicotine. I never used Chantix or anything else. Just cold turkey. For me, after 38+ years of dipping, everything in life was a reason to dip. Everything was a trigger. I firmly believe that you have to experience every single trigger and retrain your body by not rewarding the crave. Sometimes it takes more than one experience to kill the trigger. My most powerful trigger was opening the door to my hotel room. It took four or five times before I stopped getting hit with a crave. It's been a year of freedom for me now but I still fear getting a crave when I'm traveling though I haven't had one in a while.
I don't know if Chantix interferes with the retraining process, it might. I guess you'll find out once you're off of it completely.
Congrats on the 107 days of freedom. It will keep getting easier.
