Title: New Guy.....
Post by: ReconLdr on November 22, 2013, 11:54:00 AM
I'm on Day 3 and it is way fucking harder than Day 1 and 2 combined...

I started chewing (leaf) when I was very young (around 10 or so) and switched to snuff when I was 14. I'm now 42 and had my last chew Tuesday 11/19/2013 right after lunch.

I had tried "cold turkey" in the past with very poor results. I started "weening" myself 6 months ago, down from a can a day to a can every other day. Tuesday morning I decided when the can in my pocket was empty, I was going to quit.... So here I am after 32 years, sitting at my desk wanting to cry like a little girl....

After 24 years in the military, I'm reduced to this!!!!! Fuck that.... I'm not going to let it beat me anymore.... I'm gonna make it through this....

Great declaration and welcome. Yes it is tough and each day brings a new challenge. You are going to maybe have one or two great days over the next 30.

So gear up and enjoy the suck! I like pain! You'll get to love it!

Yes you can win and cold turkey is the only way to get through the suck. Weening if prolonging the pain.

So read. This plan, if followed with exactness...no one has failed. The only failing is when someone doesn't do the plan or alters it.

The trail to freedom is blazed and all you need to do now is read, write and post here what you are feeling so we can support you but post roll, keep your word and repeat daily.

ReconLdr,
Welcome brother. First you will notice that there are quite a few of us that are current or former military that are all fighting this addiction together. Welcome and feel free to let me know if there is any more I can do to further assist you sir.

Now read up the info on the site Welcome Center (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showforum=13)

Learn how to post roll How to Post Roll (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=50)

Then post Roll here Pre-HOF February 2014 Quit Group (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=8993)

Post Roll daily. This is your promise to stay quit, understand that KTC is all about brotherhood and Accountability. Make sure that these words mean something to you. Also understand that all of us quitters care so when a cave happens people will take that shit personally. We invest time into people and the quit groups are like tight families of quit.

Finally, I recommend that you find an alternative, fake dip, candy, gum, mints, etc. Drink lots of water, so much that you cannot pass a bathroom without having to piss.

P.S. All of the above underlined words are links to the site.

You can do this,

Pinched

Hey ReconLdr welcome. I"m fairly new in this quit, but a long term chewer and in the 40+ crowd like you. You can do this with the support and method of this site. Reading all you can helps me- other people's intro threads, background materials, etc. When you post something, you get the insights and support you need as well. Welcome! Hang on and take it one day at a time- it's hell and it gets better!

One of the best things you can do for yourself is follow the guidance of the seasoned quitters that will be giving you- they know how to help.

Feel free to personal message me if you need a number for text support and accountabiliy.

You have some heavy duty quitters in your corner already. I know this will work if you work it. Bring the quit one day at a time.

This is a post of mine on day 100 of my quit.

"Well let me just tell you that a lot of people put time and effort into my quit and I will not disrespect that. I have dug deep into my gut, realized that I couldn't beat this thing alone, asked for help from a bunch of strangers, family members and my Angel of a wife and made a pretty good start at quitting this addiction".

Brother, I am as tough as they come and during my quit, I had times where I was brought to me knees, I cried and I prayed for just minutes of relief.

Here I am at 124 days and was it worth it?

Hell yes!!!!!!

Yes, it's hard. But still way easier than chemo, jaw/tounge removal, feeding tubes and saying good bye to loved ones.

This just tells me that you're doing it right!!! CONGRATS, brother!!!

I agree with Bean, if it wasn't painful and you wouldn't be doing it right and you wouldn't remember the suck! Don't be ashamed about wanting to cry like a girl, many of us sat and cried as the realization hit us that we were so out of control. Reach out we that have been through the fire are here to guide you and offer our support.

Yes you can! You are a quitter! And it will get better.
Read, learn, make some friends here. Take back your life, one day at a time.
Quitting is simple, but it isn't easy.
Post roll at the beginning of your day, every day.
Chat, PM, text with you brothers. You quit group is going through exactly the same thing you are going through. The rest of us have been there before. Reach out, take control. You can do this!

Great job. I seen that you were having a bad day yesterday. Lets make this day a little easier. If my calculation are correct you should be on day 4. This means that you no longer have the poison circulating through your veins.

I recommend you find the tallest building/mountain/tree around my friend. Climb to the top. Take a good look at the world without the poison blurring your vision, clouding your judgment, and desensitizing your feeling. This is the way you were intended to live your life. TAKE A GOOD LOOK! If you take a good look you will see that this is all worth it.

This is what it's all about. Start getting use to the idea of freedom. Smell it, taste it and feel it. Quit with you today.

Keeo it going, you got this for another day! You're over the first, steepest bump, proving that you have what it takes. Now all you have to do is keep applying that determination one day at a time!

You have passed through the first suck phase. Try to stay vigilant and watch over your quit to make sure that you come up with small goals in lieu of focusing on hitting a certain day.

You know how to reach me and on any day that you need me to help let me know. We do this together brother, no matter what day count either of us are on, today is always just another day of making a promise to be quit.

Just reading this thread and want to be on this guy's side. Along with pinched and many others on this site who are veterans - WELCOME.

Not much more I can add to your posts/threads that these other bad ass quitters haven't already said, but I wanted to join in because of what I read in your initial response. You said that you weren't going to let this get the best of you! I dig that attitude. I don't know you from Adam, but I believe what you said. That is how I felt - but I needed to lean on my friends here.

So, I'm here to be on YOUR team. I have been through the first 100 days like many of these other dudes and hope that you will follow us.

Congratulations on the decision. Awesome attitude - keep it up. It's going to suck for a while but, it does go away and get better.

Hey, it's like getting kicked in the balls - it hurts for a while, but then clears up!

Congrats and I'm proud to be quit with you -

Jayhawk

Either way - just watch how we do it and follow us!

I dont want to sound like a dick... but if you are three weeks quit and you came to the site after a few days of quit then why is your post count only 8 (as of 12/12/2013)?

Are you posting roll everyday?

Have you read the information in the welcome center?

I'm not posting roll every day... I'm dealing with my cravings/addiction by separating myself from computers as much as possible... Periods on the internet was a big "trigger" for me so I just pop in, update you guys and pop out....

When I get through the cravings and can be helpful to others...I'll spend more time on here giving advice/encouragement.

Yeah not really how we quit here!!!! Maybe you should try it our way...you really don't need your updates..What you need is to promise each and everyday to you brothers that you will not use nicotine....For an update might I suggest writing in a diary.

Congrats on 4 weeks.

My recommendation would be to eliminate all electronics from your life. Get rid of your phone, tablets, computers and anything that uses a plug. TVs are definitely out! Clear out the house immediately. If you need a computer, then pop into a local library... use their computer and then get the F out of their immediately.

I used to have major cravings at work, so I just flat out quit my job. My wife used to stress me out, so I dumped her too. My car was giving me problems also, so I decided to use public transportation. That all seemed to help.

Does any of that make sense?

The answer is no... The KTC plan requires that u post roll EDD. We quit ODAAT. We support each other daily. Fear of computers and electronics just doesn't work for an internet based site.

Drink the kool aid and get with the program.
