Hello all,
So after 19 years of dipping about a can a day I finally quit on Jan 16th. Actually the reason I quit was that I got a call informing me I had Melanoma skin cancer that day and I was so depressed about it for a few days I couldn't even chew. Which turned out to be the one positive since I've been thinking about quitting for a couple years now. Anyhow it will be 3 weeks tomorrow! Is there a thread to talk about withdrawal symptoms? I've been having bad bloating and shortness of breath when i try to workout.
Thank for accepting me here!

Jmeat,
Welcome to KTC. So to confirm, you have not used smokeless tobacco and are not using a patch or some other nicotine substitute?
Well if that is so then you are definitely quit for 3 weeks. Congratulations. I quit for a bit before I joined the group as well. I could not figure out roll call.
I am sorry to hear about your melanoma. My brother had it, had it cut out and never had another issue. Same with my dad. So, from my family experience, it is not lethal. Good news. I hope the same for you.
Here is hoping that your melanoma can be dealt with quickly.
I dipped for 40 years. I was a VP of Tech who got pushed out at the ripe old age of 59 and trying to find myself ever since. One good byproduct was that I finally was able to quit this damn habit.
I told my daughter who was a vaper that it took me till I was 59 to quit. That I had no expectations of her being like me and quitting. She quit several weeks later. Best outcome ever. I set an example and then said I had no expectations.
As to your quit, you are kicking butt. You probably know how to stay strong but here is my advice to continue on.
1. Eat three square meals a day. Hunger sets me off and causes anxiety for me so I make sure I don't get hungry. You get hungry you may get the craves.
2. Workout - lift, do cardio, you know the stuff. You have got to stay in shape to continue the fight and to take care of you.
3. Remember the craves last a few seconds and then they are gone - remember to distract your mind and think about something else when you start thinking about dip.
4. Write down all the reasons you quit and go over them every day so you never forget.
5. Be grateful to yourself, to god, the universe and the world that you are here.
Welcome. Not join a group and post-roll every day with your quit group.
I will let someone else fill you in on that.

Welcome Jmeat!
You have come to the right place. I can't really add anything to what Dundippin said below, but I can tell you that last summer I lost a chunk of my arm to melanoma (http://oi66.tinypic.com/29f5dw4.jpg). The thing to remember is that melanoma is not an automatic death sentence. Especially if they catch it early.
I got a four inch long zipper scar on my arm now and my wife is constantly nagging me to wear long sleeves and long pants every time I go outside. But neither one of those things is really that bad in the grand scheme of things. On the plus side it is also kind of fun to make up ridiculous shit every time somebody sees my scar and asks what the hell happened to my arm. You should their faces when I start in on the story about the kinky sex toy accident in Amsterdam! :)
Keep your head up. You got this.

Good job Meat! I do hope your conviction stays solid when the fear of cancer wanes, because it will. I've some links in my signature for you about ADDICTION.
