Title: March Madness
Post by: randy2134 on November 30, 2013, 11:06:00 AM
Hello All,
My name is Randy, and I will no longer use ANY form of Nicotine..

I'm 37, in Law Enforcement, and a member of the National Guard. (Basically I have 2 jobs where everyone around me dips. ) I tried "shadowing" this site before. I guess I was too embarassed to post. I joined in 2011, never posted, just read along with a group, but managed to keep the bitch off of me for almost a year. I was just fooling myself. I did everything wrong. I used the patch for several weeks, would smoke an occasional cig when I had a couple of beers, to the point when I was never 72 hours without some nic in my system. As soon as I had some stress in my life, around a year ago, i fell right off the wagon and started chewing again.

Now that I've done it the wrong way - this time I'm going to do it the right way -
No Cheating - no smokes - no patches - no gum - if I have to go without beer for a few weeks, or avoid my buddies who smoke/dip, fuck em. And I will post roll here every day.

Things I've learned - The first few days isnt the hardest - because your ready for it, you know its going to suck. The really hard thing is the monster crave that comes out of nowhere after your a long time into your quit.
My plan this time is to have a few tins of smokey mountain strategically hidden - office/ car/ patrol car/ etc. to deal with the surprise crave later in my quit.

Anyway - looking forward to taking this journey with all of you. And remember - What do you call the guy who graduated last in his class in medical school? "Doctor". Same thing here. I want the whole team to be with me 100 days from now, the people (like myself) who probably may need some remedial help, there with the people who breezed through it. Take care - Randy

Randy,
Add to your arsenal things like phone numbers along with relationships that will hold you accountable. Mine is in your inbox. Also pay it forward and backward to some folks. Make it difficult to lie to us by becoming a big piece of the brotherhood. When I post roll, and I never miss, I realize I am making a promise to people who count and matter, thus I refuse to let them down. I quit with you.

Randy, you hit it on the head my friend, the monster crave 70-100-150-610 days after my quit is my fear as well. This is the reason I keep drilling into my head the KTC way. ODAAT nothing more, nothing less. You need anything give me a shout. Proud to quit with you today!

I work with a lot of guys who dip, hell my 2 best friends at work are always dipping, what I did when I first quit was tell them I was quit, that it was important to me, and I finally told them that if I ever try to bum a dip from them I wanted them to punch me right in the face. Hopefully your buddies are like mine and understand. Quit with you today.

Welcome aboard Randy and nice job of posting roll. Since you have been looking in from the outside for a fairly long time now, you know how things work around here. Check your inbox(1) and open it. There is a pm from me with my telephone number. Call me if you need to vent, rage or just shoot the shit about KTC. Nice job of taking back control of your life. Wayne

Welcome Randy.

Is there really anything special about 100 days? I guess it's a round number and this site designates it as the HOF. But in terms of handling your addiction, focus on making it through this day only. Your roll call is only good for one day. It makes no guarantees further into the future. Make posting roll before eating breakfast the first priority in your life; honoring your roll post the second priority; helping others a third priority.

You're all set.

Skip a roll post and you're already slipping back towards complacency. All in copper.

Hey Randy,

I'm looking for you in roll tomorrow morning, the thing that stuck out to me about your intro was when you talk about all your co-workers who dip.

Bro, I grew up around/worked with LEOs and I know your pain, but for real man, that is a bitch excuse. I work in an office with a ton of women who think I am totally disgusting for doing it. It doesn't make it easier to quit.

I get that you have temptation all around you, but I've got a gas station on every corner, all I've got to do is pull over, buy a can, and toss it before I get home so my wife won't know.

Instead lets both do it ODAAT starting by posting roll tomorrow.

Chris

You now have three jobs. The 3rd,, Keep the poison out of your pie hole. Each day you add makes the next easier. Each trigger you beat makes the next one easier. Each stressful moment you make it through makes the next one easier. Get me!

You went a year in the past thinking you could control this addiction. It's uncontrollable for me and you. We are not allowed to just have one. Read and learn everything you can about nicotine and addiction. Learn your enemy,, It knows you!

Glad your here, need anything let me know.

The liars and cavers breeze through. Honestly I haven't seen a quitter yet breeze through.
Randy, I just posted 625 days this morning and I still have the support of my quit group and so many others here. From reading your intro (between the lines) I'm not convinced that you understand habit vs. addiction. You may think that you do, as a 40+ year addict I thought I knew what an addiction was but I never would have compared a legal substance addiction to illegal drug abuse (meth, heroin or other 'real' drugs). We are equally addicted. I think of the crazy things I'd do to feed my addiction. A person who would drive 140 mile round trip for nothing but a can of chew, trying to scrape up and seperate a accidentally spilled can from dirt and cow shit, I'm sure we could make quit a list of similar desperate moves. Embrace the suck, accept that you are and always will be an addict and quit ODAAT with all of us.

Welcome Randy, glad you are going to do it the KTC way this time. That way does work, there is tons of evidence to that right here replying to your intro!
Heed what WT says, this is an addiction, as strong as any illegal one. It will take will power and consistent effort to stay quit, but it is very doable.
PM me if I can assist you.

Still rolling strong. Today (day 19) is my first "real" quit day, as I try going to work without a tin of smokey mountain. The last three weeks I'd just substituted smokey for the worm dirt. today I go without a crutch. Its 1pm here and so far so good. (the fake dip upset my stomach anyway).

Don't worry about using the fake too much, you will not get addicted to it. It is a tool to use when you need it, much like phone numbers, chat, and your intro. Lots and lots of quitters here say that one day they just put it down and never looked back. I never used the fake stuff, but I say if it works, keep doing it! That is why I post every day.

Use whatever works for you that doesn't have nicotine in it. I didn't use the fake, but a lot of dedicated quitters here swear by it. I just kept altoids, gum, seeds available, that part of it dropped away sometime before 100 days for me. You are a bad ass quitter whether you are using fake or not...

Randy
Out of nowhere, I had 4 days of really bad funks and craves from 77-80. Almost like week 1 all over again! Then they just went away. The bitch is dying brother. We are almost to our first goal. After that? Onward, one day at a time! Quit with you today!

Whoa... Whoa ... Whoa.... Watchumean first real quit day?

19 days of quit is 19 days of quit brother! We do whatever it takes to keep NIC out of our pieholes and that includes using fake. Don't think for one second that you weren't quit during this time.

You were quit and are quit today. If you want to dump the fake ... Go for it, but don't not use substitutes or candy, whatever, because you think it makes you less of a quitter. In time, things will get better and maybe the things you used earlier in your quit won't be needed.... But don't rush it. The single most important thing is NOT to use NIC in any form. That is our commitment today.

QLF today!

Yup. I myself used smokey mountain for 5 or 6 months. Still have a can in my office and my truck just in case. Easy to drop, in fact I stopped using it without even realizing it!

quit is quit, there is no gray line to it.
