Title: Quit today after many tries in the past
Post by: ChristopherJ on September 17, 2014, 02:40:00 PM
I've been dipping for many years and have tried to quit multiple times but never made it more than a couple months - usually just days. But I read the book called the Power of Habit. The author says that to break a habit/addiction you can't do it on your own. You need a community. Well I'm scared and I want to quit and I need some help. I am not good with computers, no Facebook etc. this is the first time I've posted on a board. Thanks in advance for anyone who takes time to reply. I'm not the type of person to ask for help but I don't want to fail again and tell myself stories. Yes I'm worried about cancer. And also worried and ashamed of what I might put my family through if it happens. I've got a favorite band that has a song that goes "I will change tomorrow, tomorrow I will change". That's what I've been telling myself for years. No more.

Hi Christopher. Please read the Welcome center area, explaining how to post roll call. Roll call is our promise to each other and ourselves that we will not use nicotine for 24 hours. It is a powerful tool in our quit.

So tell me, are you a nicotine addict, and have you quit yet?

Christopher,
You are in the right place to help you quit. Your story is very similar to many of us on the site, addicted, worried about cancer and ashamed of not being about to quit in the past.
Read and learn how to use this site it will be a power tool in your quit.
One day at a time.

Welcome Christopher, good to see that you posted in roll, now do it just like that every day. That's your promise to me that you won't cave and by me posting it's is also my promise to you that I won't cave. It's like the old saying it takes a village, well we are kind of just that. A group of quitters that take it very seriously and repeat our quit everyday.

Take some time and read some intros, there are thousands on here and many that will inspire you. Post roll every day and I mean everyday. Pm me if you need anything and there are hundreds more that will reach out if you need it. Today is a first step but to let you know we are all here to take the next one with you. Proud to quit with you today. QLF

Thumblewort, Charles and Sir Nope,
Thanks for the encouragement. I am amazed and so grateful that there are people willing to share their time with complete strangers. I admit I'm addicted and I have quit.
Sir nope, I finally figured out the roll call, but I don't know how (or what) pm is

Welcome Chris!

You are in an awesome community of quitters who will help you, but you have to make the system work for you.

1. posting roll every single day is very very very important. It's the most important part.
2. Get some numbers of some other quitters in your quit group and make them part of you "cave" plan.

Go to the HOF speeches thread and read what some of those guys have gone through. Read all you can, and you will be successful. I quit with you today, and look forward to you making it into the HOF.

Christopher,

Pm is the private message or inbox that we all have when we sign up. If you get one you will see it pop up in the bottom right hand corner of your screen. At least it does on my phone. Use as many of the services KTC has to offer to help you along with your quit. Good decision and see you tomorrow at roll call.

Christopher just read through your intro stream...Welcome aboard. One of the greatest things about this site is the similarities you have with so many of us. I too came to the site nervous about posting on a board, and if I'm being honest I had zero conviction this site would be any real help. Was I wrong. For thousands of us every day using this site is the difference between quitting and caving. So stick with the program and you'll find you share another similarity with all of us...you'll be quit.

Dagranger speaks the truth. Many of us tried to stop for years. Threw away hundreds... Thousands of half full cans. And then we found ktc!

Post roll every day first thing. Then keep your word. At first it spunds crazy, right? But you become a community, a brotherhood. You'll be shocked at the dimilarities you will share with some on this board, and if you are smart you'll collect a few numbers and text those that you "connect" with. This community works... Provided you post roll and your word is worth a damn. I believe your word is golden. If I can help, send me a pm. My number is yours and I'd be happy to help.

Proud to have you and hope you post roll every day. It takes some getting used to but making that vow to the members of KTC strengthens your resolve and helps with the withdrawal symptoms.
This is an excerpt from a very special book that I hold dear and no matter what you apply it to you see that groups of like minded individuals can conquer seemingly insurmountable adversaries.

“We are average Americans. All sections of this country and many of its occupations are represented, as well as many political, economic, social, and religious backgrounds. We are people who normally would not mix. But there exists among us a fellowship, a friendliness, and an understanding which is indescribably wonderful. We are like the passengers of a great liner the moment after rescue from shipwreck when camaraderie, joyousness and democracy pervade the vessel from steerage to Captain’s table. Unlike the feelings of the ship’s passengers, however, our joy in escape from disaster does not subside as we go our individual ways. The feeling of having shared in a common peril is one element in the powerful cement which binds us. But that in itself would never have held us together as we are now joined.”

Thank you for joining, the more people we have the stronger we all become.

Not a big facebooker here Chris, and don't think I posted on a board before joining here or since. You'll love it here. Lots of people winning at something that many of us deemed a lost cause.

There is some pain at the beginning. Nothing you can't deal with by posting your promise and keeping your word for today. We will worry about tomorrow when it gets here.

Read, read and read some more on here. Drink lots of water- it will really help in the next week!

Read this: topic/1008859/3/#new (http://forum.killthecan.org/topic/1008859/3/#new)

Very powerful stuff. You can do this if you want it bad enough. Do it once day at a time. Make that promise to us and to yourself that you will be nicotine free for 24 hours. Then wake up and do it again. One foot in front of the other.

Break those chains of nicotine.

QUIT ON!

Thanks for the suggestions and the readings are gut wrenching. One day at a time is all I can think of right now. I am starting to reach out to some of the kind and generous people on this board as I know I need help and , if possible, to help others.

Stay Quit!

You will go through some tough days ahead. You'll also go through days that are 'easy'. Come back to those two posts and read them again if you ever think 1 death dip will be OK because we all know 1 will turn into another then another and another etc. Then you'll be back to stuffing you face with cancer causing chemicals and lying to yourself that you'll quit tomorrow.

There are a lot of tools on this site to keep you quit. Use them. Own your quit, one day at a time. You got this. Not all the advice you get will be helpful for your quit. Take what you need and leave the rest.

PM me if I can ever be of help.

You've had lots of good advice so far Chris.

I only really can add two things right now.

1. It's gonna suck... until it doesn't for now.

2. It's so worth it you won't even believe how sweet the freedom.

We have all been right where you are so like these guys have said, strap in, post roll everyday and keep your promise. It will get better. I am sending you a PM with my number, hit me up if you need anything.

Chris, I PM'ed you my number. Use it if I can help. I'm nearly 400 days into this  can still struggle at times, but KTC works. You've got many badass guys in here who will give you their best. All they ask in return is that you post roll everyday  keep your word. You can do that, for today. We do it ODAAT, one day at a time, no need to worry about tomorrow until it's here. Getting through today can be hard enough, but by keeping your word you got this.

Nothing wrong with needing help, and you don't have to be good with computers. Posting roll, and I see you posted day 2 today great work, is actually technically kind of hard. Don't worry about if you do it wrong, someone fixes it, all people care about at this stage is that you do post roll  keep your word.

Tomorrow is always soon enough to change if you have to do this on your own. Today I gotta get this done, and if I can't do it for myself, the least I can do is do it for my friends I've come to know over the past nearly 400 days.

You do mention being scared which is normal at this point for sure. I can offer some advice thereÂ…

1. Get thoroughly checked out. Been to the dentist recently? Go. Get them to do that backlight thing that scans for any pre cancerous signs. Some guys have had some pretty bad lips  come out fine, I certainly did, and chances are good that you'll be fine too. It's better knowing than not knowing.
2. After the dentist, you may need a doctors visit. Tell them that you dipped, for how long, etc,  that you are quit now. With no nic substitutes, no patches, gums, no nicotine period. They'll be able to assess your physical health  well being.

After those 2 appointments are over, I pray you check out fine. If you're still scared at that point, it can be irrational. I thought I was dying over  over again of cancer even after I'd been checked over. This could be 2 reasons really, or a combo of the twoÂ…

1. You have anxiety issues, but have successfully self medicated with tobacco in the past. Great medicine for that but the side effects are killer. You may be for the first time in your adult life, truly experiencing all emotions, positive, negative, and irrational, all at once, none of it dulled by nicotine as you're used to.
2. The nicotine withdraws really does mess with your brain chemistry. You've been dousing yourself with poisons for years, no judgement I was there once too as were thousands on this board, so it's affected your chemistry,  the withdrawals affect it even more.

In one or both cases, you may have to get some anti depressants or anti anxiety drugs. It may be too early to tell by day #2, but anxiety and depression issues can be common when quitting. Many, including me, would up on some form of drugs to help right things while quitting. No shame in that, your doctor will be happy to help. My doc took the same drug I have for anxiety while quitting smoking.

You're doing this, you got this. Two days in, you're 2/3 of the way through the first 72hrs of hell. It gets easier day by day after this as your body  mind heal little by little. It's a tough road but with community here you can do it. I offer up as proof you've got most every king badass of the boards here posting in your intro. These guys don't come out of the woodwork for nothing. They see the quit in you.

Posted roll this morning before even drinking my coffee. Having the KTC community is a blessing and several people have reached out to me on pm - thanks!

I actually went to the gym last night. Its been common for me to skip going becuase of some lame excuse to pack my lip and waste time. I've read several posts describing this deceiptful and tempting voice as the nic bitch. She's out there.

I also took the bus to work this morning to avoid the driving trigger - not the most convenient but it gave me more time to reflect on what I am doing - ODAAT.

Fuck yea. That's how you do it my friend. Get up, post roll, make plans on how to stay quit and get on the site in and out over the course of the day.

Here's another revelation for you to take pause at: look at all the stuff you just wrote. Think for a minute of all the shit you just did without a dip in...pretty pathetic huh? Don't worry, we've all been there and we've just scratched the surface. My point is, there is so much to do. Simple things that you can now enjoy while not being a slave. Start to take these little things in (mowing the lawn, playing with the kids, etc) and embrace them. The daily victories, the growing sense of freedom, the accountability, the brotherhood, all become stones in your foundation of quit. Never stop building that foundation and never stop looking for stones.

Here's one stone from Steak.

I love the quit going on here. Like Steak said, you will have to face the triggers someday, but early on do whatever it takes to stay quit.

I am facing my biggest and last trigger this weekend - I have the house to myself for 2 nights. It used to be do a few projects, and watch a lot of flicks and sports, a ton of booze and 3-4 cans of dip. So what am I going to do differently? Well, I already posted roll today, so dipping today is out. But I also have over 20 numbers in my phone that I can call or text if and when a crave hits. I have the tools at my fingertips, and so do you. I quit with today brother, lets do this!

Proud to be quit with you today. This gets a lot better I promise. In ways you can't even imagine now as your body is no longer subconciously pursuing addiction. Your body is already thanking you. The irrational concious mind can be tougher  that's what KTC is for.

Soon you'll be back to your normal commuting routine of driving. A huge trigger for many if not all of us. As is mowing the lawn like steak mentioned. Don't forget to celebrate the wins along the way like that first commute without dip. Everything you're going to relearn without dip. So go forth strong to finish out the first 72 today!

You have a great start! It's hard-- but freedom is worth it! just bear down, beat this minute by minute if that's what it takes. Everybody here has gotten through what you are facing. You were smart enough to finally reach out for help- that's what's different this time. When you can, keep reading, reading, reading. Read intros from other quitters. See parts of your story in theirs. Read about the addiction-- it really helped me to learn a lot about how evil this weed really is. It's scary stuff actually. Get to know other quitters- in your group and from others too.

There are an amazing bunch of guys watching over you right now- just slog through this and you'll have the support you need.

Man... I dig that you took the bus to avoid a trigger. Even at an inconvenience to yourself.

Right. On.

That's the mentality it takes to get over on your addiction. It takes... Whatever it takes. There's a lot of rewiring to do and the big job is made up of all the small pieces. I took a week off work and isolated myself from everything. It was the only way I could deal. I see in you the same resolve and it's encouraging! You need to be willing to do whatever it takes to win your life back and I think you are. The most important advice I can give you is... Get involved and stay involved. This place is the beginning of the path to freedom and... It's a beautiful thing. At 521 days, my life isn't even close to what it was last year at this time. You keep putting one day after the next and you'll start to feel it. It's worth it man...

Christopher,
Welcome to KTC, but most of all welcome to one of the greatest damned decisions you have made in your life. Granted me meeting my wife and marrying her, then having kids and keeping her was my personal greatest achievement in life (so far). Yet, quitting tobacco cold turkey is definitely in the top three for me outside of that.

One of the most inspirational quitters on here helped urge me to reach out to you so that is what I am doing as he did for me. You will find loads of good information on here, read read and read. When you are bored or need to vent come to chat, otherwise if that doesn't work look in your inbox for my phone number. I absolutely love being the target of someone's rage so please feel free.

Welcome home brother and heed all the sage advice dished out before my coming here.

Have you ever seen that show called intervention? The one where the heroin addicts are jittery and running in circles, or where the meth addicts are speaking in tongues jonesing so bad for their next fix? That... Chris... Is day 1-3. That shit is over now. The nicotine is out of your system and now it is just You and your mind in a battle for a while. It helps to know your opponent...

Did you know that nicotine is about as addictive as heroin? Know any 3 pack a day smokers in 2014? A can of your poison of choice has the same nicotine levels as 3 packs. Pretty whack that we can buy this neurotoxin/powerful herbicide over the counter at the 7-11, eh? Like pinched, I'll tell you that getting control of this addiction is one of my biggest accomplishments. And it will be one of your as well.

One day at a time your promise and integrity will get you through. You are in the right place. And you are fighting the right fight.

Chris,
This group of guys above me are some of the baddest ass quitters on this site. They speak the truth brother. Worktowin said, "One day at a time, your promise and integrity will get you through". AJ said, "Get involved and stay involved" and "That's the mentality it takes to get over your addiction. It takes....Whatever it takes." I am really glad you are here. I really enjoy seeing people come here and take back control over their lives.

So chemically I ve past th 72 hrs. That's a step! After posting this morning I did a last search of the house to make sure there were no hidden cans - check. Last night I took my car to a full service car wash to clean all the crappy little pieces of dip out. Does is still smell? I don't trust my senses yet! I'll keep the bus as a backup.

This morning I had a taste of freedom. Promise, post, move on. Thanks to all the support I have gotten. Stay quit

Nice.
Very nice.

You'll have ups and downs with this journey. But... Stick with it and the trend is always up. It gets better and better. Relish each victory and live in the now of it. Rock on...

Nice indeed. My quit got real expensive when I decided that the smell of Copenhagen could not be cleaned and I "had to" go buy a new truck. OK, maybe I didn't have to, but at least this truck doesn't smell like dried tobacco and there is no brown stains on the carpet of the transmission hump or the right side of my seat from my wiping my greasy tobacco stained fingers on them.

Nice work Chris, keep it up brother you are committed and I am proud to see you being a quitter!

I'm finishing up day 7 and also returning from my uncle's funeral service and burial at Arlington National Cemetery. Some of the experience inspired me. And with the hope that it might inspire some of my quit brothers and sisters here, I'll share a couple of observations.

First, there is nothing more beautiful than to hear the spoken words of loved ones at a funeral when the person who has died has lived an honorable and generous life. In those moments I had to reflect on my own life and thoughts crossed my mind about whether the nicotine addiction would cut my life short. Would it cause the premature grief to people who cared about me? How many good people died early from tobacco? Can I stay quit?

The second observation is the intense brotherhood that was exhibited by the military today. The honor guard was inspirational and very special. Yes, I'm ex military from years ago, so I may be biased, but the connection that was re-energized in me today, with them, is of the same form that I felt upon joining the KTC group. This is a special place.

Glad you feel such a strong brotherhood here Chris. Congrats on making it through week #1! I'm sorry to hear about your uncle but it sounds like he was an honorable man everyone could be proud of.

Nice reflection Chris. With so many military and ex military guys here it's hard for that type of brotherhood to not rub off on the site. Glad to see you on day 7. They will mark the worst 7 days of your quit. Now time to start the grind. If you can do seven you can definitely do tomorrow, and the next day and the next day.

The second week was definitely better than the first, though I truly approached it one day at a time. Last night I had a pretty stong crave for the first ime in a while. It came and went very quickly, but I was surprised by it anyway. I thought I had figured out my triggers, but maybe not yet. Last night I drank hard alcohol (bourbon) for the first time since my quit. I have had beers several times (including Octoberfest) without the same trigger. I'll be on guard next time.

Way to make it through a trigger  stay focused on the quit. Right on! There may be more instances come up though. After all you're re learning how to do everything without dip. There could be some seasonal activities that you won't even realize could be a trigger till months down the road. But you've got the tools to fight  are using them. Congrats bro!

I just passed the halfway point to HOF (day 54 today) and I thought I'd give an update.

I was slow to embrace the KTC community, aside from posting roll and responding to PMs from people who reached out to me. Reading the incredible amount of helpful information on this site, coupled with my daily promise, provided me a shield in my battle against nicotine addiction. It took a while, but I've learned by watching others on this site, that I really needed to do more. I've reached out to strangers offering my help, commented on posts that I found inspiring or troubling, and taken the time to support other people who are trying, just like me, to fight their way through this, one day at a time. I've even joined a text group with some good people from other months here at KTC. These are all building blocks.

Recently, one of the guys in December shared a heartwarming story about how he sat down with his wife and showed her the KTC site. This inspired me to do the same thing. I was a ninja dipper for many years, and I approached my quit the same way - no one knew about it except my KTC community. Last night after dinner I finally told my wife about my quit. She was surprised, but mostly happy and relieved. She couldn't believe that I sought out support. She said she was proud of me, which is always good for a man to hear from the woman he loves. I explained the site and the intros, and even the fact that I had reached out to a couple of people from other groups starting their quits. This really blew her away because it's very unlike me.

I am savoring the freedom! ODAAT

Grizz is spot on. I showed my wife the KTC site 2 weeks in, on Christmas morning. It was at that point I felt like the double life I was living was cast aside and I got to become the person I was supposed to be. That was one of the most, if not the most liberating experiences of my quit. Congratulations CJ.

Great story. I love being open and honest with my family again. Getting involved here definitely helps others, but more importantly it will help to solidify your quit. If you are posting here every day and stop for a few days. It definitely gets noticed. Accountability is what this site is all about. Congrats on 50. The quitter you are today is nothing like the user who came to this site 50 days ago.

What a great start to Christmas Day... Welcome to the Hall of Fame sir! 100 days ago you were a slave, but by using the tools and being a man that really grasps brotherhood  accountability, today will be a Christmas that you will never forget. Thank you for including so many of us in your journey - as along the way you have strengthened us as well!

Today is just the beginning. It gets so much better from here that it cannot even be put into words. Keep doing what you are doing, and santa will have many more gifts for you in the days ahead. Today I'll raise a glass of baileys in your honor. Go Bengals!

Some days I cant believe how grateful I feel for stumbling onto KTC and becoming part of the RANT (Dec 14). On Friday I visited our Louisville operation (about 2 hours from me). On the way out of the gate, I checked my gas for the drive and saw I needed to fill up. There is a gas station right before the highway and every time I have driven to our Louisville plant for the past 16 years, I have stopped at that place to buy dip. It felt so good to pull onto the road nicotine free, knowing I have the support from my KTC family. Thanks for the freedom! CJ

CJ

No more.
^^^ this is where you were 200 days ago. Freedom is a great thing. You jumped in with both feet and helped a lot of us along the way. Thanks for being a leader, Chris. Enjoy this huge milestone!

I have to say 300 feels really good right now. I never could have imagined a community like this existed. Facing our fears and winning - even for a day - is the type of experience that makes us better humans - even when you admit to yourself that you need others help and the grace that comes with it. Fighting and winning against our addiction together just makes it better. I'm humbled to be quit with all of my friends/quit brothers at KTC.

Of my closest daily support/accountability network is that much more
Impactful. Keep the great quit going, and stay involved bro! you are a real asset to this community!

Almost daily I experience new ways that being quit has changed my life for the better. Just last weekend, my wife surprised me with a birthday trip to a cabin in the woods a couple of hours away. "Pack your hiking boots and a sports jacket". I happily went along with this and had a fantastic weekend. If this happened a year ago, I may have panicked and possibly made an excuse for not going, or would have had to come up with a scheme to hide a can and sneak off at some point to be by myself. That was me and I'm not proud of it. But today I'm different and very grateful for that. CJ

These little things are the real eye-openers for me early in the quit. It's amazing how many great opportunities I let slip by, only to cuddle with a carcinogenic poison. Feels good to be free.

This was you one year ago. You joined KTC and like many of us, were scared and almost hopeless after many years of trying to win alone. You are a model quitter, a great mentor, and a true friend. Today you win as a team, one day at a time.

Today you celebrate a year of freedom! Enjoy your day - you've helped a lot of others along your journey and woven a strong web of accountability. You've earned this!

Aside from myself (obviously), no one has been more instrumental to my quit than you, CJ. Your methodical and disciplined approach to accountability is unmatched, and I am fortunate that I'm in the population in whom you chose to invest your time and efforts. I'm truly honored to be associated with you on this site and humbled each and every day as you post "ChristopherJ ### - with Hando" in my quit group.

Today, that ### is 365. Congratulations and well deserved, CJ. Its a really big deal and I'm really proud of you. Know that I really appreciate all that you've done for me, watching my back and checking in on me. You very well may have saved my life, and I'll never forget that.

A friend of mine sends this to me every New Year's Eve and I thought it was worth sharing in my intro. Maybe its not directly about quitting, but if I look at how I try to live my life now that I am quit, I see the possibilities of meeting some of the aspirations in this poem.

Happy New Year!

"Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy."

No more.
500 days!!!

Above is your first post. You are a different man than when you typed this. It is an honor to quit with you on one of the biggest of milestone days today. Enjoy, and celebrate!

Thanks for all the support. As I read back on that day 1 post, I never could have imagined all of this. At 500 days, with the seasons flowing for the second time, it really is amazing to observe and reflect on my life and relationships. I was far too foggy last year to appreciate the changes and perhaps by next year the memories of my life controlled by nicotine will fade. But I know my quit is solid because of the support and lessons I have learned from each of you at KTC. Brotherhood. Accountability. Success - One day at a time. CJ

I just went back and read the 1st entry into your Intro. I can see myself in it. So many failures in the past, looking for a way out of this mess. It gives me courage that with the support of you and others like you here this is going to be the quit to end all quits. You mentioned a song by your favorite band in your 1st post here. It made me think of a song by my favorite "band" that is a better fit for you now. (And maybe it fits me as well.) It's been a long time coming, but I know a change is gonna come (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAATZfA70WU)

Thanks for the support - KTC and the incredible people here are the foundation of my quit. I missed roll for the first time last week - that was a huge disappointment and a wakeup call. Being quit has given me the ability to focus on the multitude of other things in life that are so much more important than nicotine. Thanks for the song link Mike1966 - I liked it. Here is the link for the song that helped get me to realize that quitting tomorrow is just another lie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0fwYcCbpg8 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0fwYcCbpg8) 701 CJ

One of my favorite quitters right here and a huge strength to my quit! Way to be Christopher.
Just read your intro. Man we all sound so much alike in our reason for wanting to quit, and our failures to do so with brotherhood and accountability.
You shine in that accountability. Congrats on two years man!!!!

No more.
Congratulation brother on a massive accomplishment. The freedom you've earned looks so much sweeter than this day 1 post. You are the man. Enjoy typing that , every day!!!!!

Thanks! When I look back at that day 1 post I can vividly recall typing it out and wondering if I could possibly build the network of support that I knew I needed. Little did I know that there were caring thoughtful people ready to jump in and reach out. Life gives us many twists and turns, grief and joy over 1000 days, but the consistency of my friends here at KTC has never wavered. It felt good to type 1001 this morning!

Every New Years Day, a good friend would send me the poem below. He died earlier this year (cancer) so I am feeling his loss today.

I just spent a couple of days visiting my elderly father in the hospital (heÂ’s going to be ok). But for KTC and the people that help me here, I never would have been able to sit patiently for hours on end the way you need to do in this situation. IÂ’m very grateful.

"Just need to take the edge off", or give myself "something to do" while I waited. Those would have been my favorite excuses; the latter is the most ridiculous. Like spitting dip spit into a cup is "doing" something. I'm with you brother. Grateful for being quit, grateful for brotherhood, and grateful that you're dad is ok.

Nicotine is such a lie.

The brotherhood isnÂ’t a lie.

Honored to quit with you guys.
