Title: Second try
Post by: hornet on January 17, 2011, 10:55:00 AM
Hey all,
Friday night I threw my last can out the window as I drove home, so I'm on day three of my second attempt. Until I started typing this post I'd never contemplated how many years I've been dipping and the answer is a little shocking - 19 years.

My first attempt was about two years ago and went surprisingly well, though I remember the first two weeks being especially difficult. I went 9 months without and thought I'd seen the last of the stuff when life threw a curve ball. It was a particularly tough time that led me to quit drinking but in the moment of weakness and stress I let my guard down about dipping and that bastard snuck right back into my life.

Funny, I've been drinking about as long as I've been dipping and once I decided to quit drinking I never had one urge or craving for booze. But this tobacco is a different animal for me. It's grip is complete - physical, mental, chemical. It's a deceitful devil and I'm amazed how it tricks the mind. One day quitting seems to be the highest priority and the next day it just doesn't seem that important. Reality is blurred and logical thought is short circuited by the craving that justifies and downplays every means to it's end.

Sorry, ran off on a tangent there. Anyway, here I am.

Welcome hornet. Glad you made it to the site. You will find us to be very helpful and supportive of everyone who is quit.

Are you using any nicotine at the moment? If not, post roll every day in your group, which is April (I'm there as well). This is your promise to your brothers and sisters that you will not use any nicotine that day.

You can find all sorts of info in this area, but pay most attention to items #1-4:

index.php?showforum=13 (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showforum=13)

Read, post, read, post...and get onto chat so that you get to know the new folks and the vets.

Again, welcome, and PM me if you need more info.

Welcome.

A couple things about your post...Second "try" huh? No try...only do.

Second "attempt"? Again...we don't try, we don't attempt, we don't hope, we don't offer "luck". None of that shit has a place in our vocabulary.

It may seem nit-picky, but if you don't get your head right now....you wont when your demons kick your fuckin door down looking for you.

PMA (Positive Mental Attitude)....find it. Own it. You don't stand a chance without it.

Now...drop and give LOOT 20.

Sorry, Yoda. Just giving a little background to kick things off. Considering that none of you can see the "Hello, My name is Hornet" name tag I'm wearing, I thought that little icebreaker would be suitable for a thread designated Introductions.

But hey, I'm a team player so forget I ever mentioned it and we can start off with "Anyway, here I am."

How about instead of 2nd try you call this your first (and last) quit since your last quit failed it cannot be called a quit.

Welcome, post roll early, everyday, keep your promise and we will not allow failure.

Now, did you drop and give LOOT 20 yet?

Congrats Hornet. Great choice. I too made 19 years of stupid choices. Oh well, what's done is done. The important thing is that you are here now...living "yesterday + 1" like all of the rest of us.

You can beat this, just stay strong, brother.

Hornet, welcome, glad to have you - can't wait to get our quits on together, but while you're learning your way around here how about showing some respect. Loot, one of the founders of this site btw, was simply pointing out to you that you seem to have your mind wrapped around the concept of TRYING to quit - that is something this site simply does not stand for.

So, since you don't like it delivered in troll (what the hell was yoda anyway?) I'll spell it our for you another way:

We don't TRY to quit - we put our minds to the fact that the nic bitch may not have another day of our lives.

We don't ATTEMPT to quit - we DECIDE that UST doesn't need anymore of our hard earned money in return for their poisonous product.

See the difference? Semantics? Yes. Critical differences? Absolutely.
