FYI....
I'm soon to be 54 and have either dipped or chewed for 40 plus years. Prior to that I'm sure I was addicted to nic even before birth. I've been nic free since 1-5-10. Can't say any days are good some are less worse than others.
I found this web-site and visit often but have not really figured out how to communicate with anyone. Any assistance out there would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

I am in pretty much the same boat as this poster. I quit a can per day Copenhagen habit on 1/1/2010, but I have chewed nicorette gum since. I know that the nicorette is much better than the Copenhagen but I want completely off the nic. The thing is that I am having serious withdrawals even with the gum as a crutch. I tried the Bacc-Off substitute and that was a mistake; it was just too close to the real thing and made me want it more.
My wife is really supportive and keeps telling me to just stay busy. I keep trying to tell her that everything I have done and have enjoyed doing for the last twenty years was with a dip in my mouth. I am essentially having to re-learn how to do everything without the Copenhagen.
I am a really lucky guy with a great wife, son and job. My decision on quitting came from realizing that it all could be lost because of an idiotic, selfish, disgusting habit. The habit had developed into a beast that required me to keep a dip in my mouth constantly. If I wasn't eating or sleeping, I had a dip.
I guess I am just looking for a little support from people have been through this. I live and work around people who dip and chew tobacco just like I did, and that is another thing that makes it difficult for me. I appreciate any advice that is offered.

Gum 4mg? 20 pieces a day right?
can of Cope= 253 to 300 plus mg of nic
80vs 300 'bang head'
so yeah, your ass is craving like a crack whore on payday.
The gum isnt doing you any favors. All your doing to yourself is creating a long slow withdrawl process. Dump the gum , pull up your skirt and go at it cold. It'll suck for 3 days and then get better. Statistically most successful quits are cold turkey. The FDA hasn't even approved NRT's for use for quitting smokeless.
If I can do this so can you

NoSaint and MyFuture,
You have both come to the right place. We are just like you. I myself chewed from about 5th or 6th grade until now. (I'm 38). I ate with it, drank with it, worked with it, and slept with it. Cope back then was my best friend. I burried my friend and ain't looking back.
This site provides lots of tools and there are tons of folks that are here to support you. You will both be in the April quit groups. Go into your group read the posts and post your roll. The roll call is your promise to all of us that you will not chew for the day. We all take this promise very serious. I would suggest you stop in the chat room and visit with people. At that time get people's phone numbers. As you quit you will have moments of rage. Come here to rage use us to rage at rather than you work or family memebers.
We all understand where it comes from. Use the phone numbers you get to call when you need extra help. When it comes to quitting we don't fuck around. If you come in here and post roll we take you for your word. Don't let us down, and we won't let you down when we make the same promise to you.
Good luck and congrats on telling nic good bye for good.

I too had a dip in my mouth whenever I was doing stuff I liked! Hunting, fishing, shooting. On day 14 and just came back from a week long hunting trip! It was a lot of fun with no dip. Kind of a proud feeling to have made it! Can`t say I didnt crave now and then, but it is getting lots better! Maybe on next years hunt, I won`t even think about it!!
