Hey guys, I'm new, name's Jon. Today is my third time quitting. The last two times, I did it cold turkey without any problems whatsoever. This time it's been hell, and I'm only about 24 hours in.
I started at 20 with my fraternity in college. I chewed 2 years, quit for a year cold turkey and didn't have a single craving. After a year, I went back on a whim due to stress.
After that, I chewed off and on, about one chew a day until I met my current wife. She had me stop. It's been about 9 years now that I was nicotine and chew free. Zero cravings, just tossed it and was done.
Unfortunately, about a month ago I started again. I immediately went to pouches to be more discreet, and discovered Skoal Apple pouches. Good God these are incredible. My wife has hated me for it, and though I don't particularly WANT to quit, I know I NEED to quit. I have a 2 year old daughter, and I need to do it for her and for my wife, and for my own health.
She asked me why I started again, and the only thing I could think of was "I really enjoy long lasting flavor in my mouth with zero calories that gives me a 'boost'. It gives me something to do while I'm doing something. It helps me focus and improve my concentration.
Needless to say, I stopped mid day yesterday, and had a 'routine' down for when I'd throw one in.
Morning before work
Lunch time shitter
On the way home from work
Wildcard time if possible
Before bed
2 pouches each time.
My last one was lunch time yesterday and I'm going INSANE. Last night I tried making a homemade coffee chew with coffee grounds and honey, and it was okay, but didn't pack at all, and I hated spitting grounds everywhere. Disgusting. I tore open a teabag and packed it full of the stuff and threw that in and it was better and gave me a 'mind' fix.
I just got a tin of SMC classic since that was the only kind they had, and I'm going to give it a try. I've had a hard time finding alternatives unless I order online, and would be inclined to try a coffee based chew since it gives that 'boost' i enjoy, but i've heard a lot of mixed reviews on Grounds pouches.
I'm halfway tempted to try making my own. Does anyone make their own tobacco free chew that they wouldn't mind sharing the recipe for?

Welcome to the rest of your life. Ensure that this quit is solely for you, everyone else that benifets will be a plus. Glad to see you figured out the intro now you need to go and post roll. Your group will be July 17. Here is the link
JULY17 (http://forum.killthecan.org/topic/30190862/73/#new)
You would be on day 2 if you quit yesterday so put your day two and your promise not use nicotine for the next 24 hours right under the new bad ass quitters section. Share your digits with as many quitters as you can. Remember we do this One Day at a time so that is why you promise for the next 24 hours. Also, post your day and promise first thing in the morning so you know you wont use for the day.
Welcome aboard.

Reading your intro is like a flashback to my day 1. I had stopped for lengths of time, no big deal, but my last and final quit SUCKED. I think maybe the addict in us hadn't been fully awakened before?? Who knows... anyway, the next few weeks are gonna suck, bad. Just get yourself mentally prepared for it. Nic's gonna wage a full-on physical and mental war against you to get you back. DON'T LET HER! We've all been there and it IS doable. (And the sense of accomplishment on the other side of this is huge!) Click on the link to July 17 provided in the comment above, and get on roll, first thing every morning. (Instructions on how to post roll are on the top of each roll post.) Don't worry about f'ing it up, this site is totally confusing at first, especially in the fog of early quit! Post your promise for 24 hours and KEEP IT. That simple. Swap your digits with EVERYONE in your group as fast as you can and hit them up when nic's mind games start. Reach out to all of us, it's what we're here for. I never tried fake as I was afraid it would be a trigger, but sunflower seeds helped me with the "something to do". Others use toothpicks, gum, mints, stuff like that. The gym helped wear me down (I was a rabid bitch the first month) and I used l-theanine and lithium orotate supplements for anti-anxiety. (Both natural, both on Amazon).
Hit me up if you need additional support! Quit on!

Lots of addict speak here, but I'll just say this. If you don't want to quit, you won't succeed. You won't buy in to what we do here and you certainly won't put in the effort to get it done EDD. We all want you to succeed, but if you don't want it yourself, what's the point?
Prove me wrong, post roll and take some ownership of your quit.

1. Post roll - it's the cost of admission to this otherwise free site.
2. You have never quit before. You have only stopped using. When you commit to Quit, you never uses nicotine again under any circumstance.
3. Don't quit for your wife. Don't quit for your daughter. Quit only for yourself. If you quit for someone else, you will eventually resent them for it, and are more likely to cave.
4. You have to learn to hate tobacco, and everything about it. Its taste, its smell, the disgusting spit ...
5. Quitting will suck until it doesn't. And, it will suck for a while.

Welcome to KTC malignity. And congrats on your decision to use this site to take back your life.
At the risk of coming across as an a$$hole....the 3rd time is NOT the charm! I pissed away stop/quit attempt #3, 30 years ago. Nor was attempt 33 the charm! But, I've learned from other longtime Quitters here, that there's an attitude that's required for success. That's the mindset that "I'm done with this stuff for good this time. I've shut the door on that chapter of my life. Never again another "just one" for any reason."
Since joining this forum I've been Quit longer than I'd ever been able to on my own and it's due in part to that mindset and due in LARGE part to the support I've gotten here. If you embrace the philosophy of this site your chance for success goes up exponentially.
Post roll everyday.
Post it as a promise not to use, 1st thing in the morning.
Get to know the other Quitters. Try to help them. Reach out to them when you need help.
To sum up - Brotherhood + Accountability = Success!
I'll see you on roll in July, first thing in the morning.
Proud to Quit with you today
-
Good to see you posted roll. You've joined a band of brothers/sisters all fighting the same fight. You're 1000x stronger now because of it. Keep your word for 24 hours and then wash, rinse, repeat.
