I've dipped a can/day for over 30 years and 5 days ago decided it was time. I did quit for over a year about 12 years ago but gave in. Have tried a few times since but never gave it my best. This time I decided to try the nic gum. I should have came here FIRST before spending $45 on the gum. The gum does work and yes I know why. The first 2 days I only put in 4 pieces of gum. Today, day 5, has been the worst. I did gum first thing in the morning and held off til about 10am when I couldn't take it anymore. I will give up the gum after reading info on here. I'm not a forum type guy so here's to hoping this works.

Welcome Corndog! KTC was my first forum too, so no worries. Flush the gum and any stray cans and join the fine quitters here at KTC! As you have realized we are cold turkey here - nicotine is the enemy, in whatever form. Your next move is to go to the welcome center, find your quit group and post roll.
You will never regret doing it. Glad to have you here corndog.

I used nic gum for almost three weeks before I quit, so you're learning faster than I did. Get rid of it, and embrace the suck.
If you think about it, using a nicotine replacement prolongs the agony. Every time you allow yourself to give in, you take a step backward. Even if you space your pieces out 4, 6, or 8 hours, you were 4, 6, or 8 hours quit - then caved. Quitting sucks every time you start it. So, just quit once more, and be done with it.
When you battle through a crave, and don't give in, you'll find that it lasts 5 minutes, or less. Each time you battle through it is a victory that nicotine will never get back. Each time you are victorious will make the next time a little bit easier.
It's time to rip the band-aid off, and get on with your QUIT.
