Title: Very newly quit and would appreciate advice on how to STAY quit and cravings
Post by: Donewithdip on January 19, 2016, 09:37:00 PM
I am trying to quit using dip. Are they any ladies here or is this an all guy group. I am having a really difficult time
I am a 21 year old woman and married with a child, I started using dip in high school because all my friends were guys and they all did it. Been going on about 5 years now. I hate that I have this addiction, it's embarrassing, I do not look like typical person to dip and when I buy it cashier's always ask if it's for my husband. (He smokes but doesn't dip) I really am hoping that I can stay strong , the longest I have gone without is maybe 1 day and I kind of got shaky and frustrated. Any advice or tips would be great.
I dip/dipped grizzly winter green pouches, and did it most frequently after meals and while driving. I don't want my son to grow up thinking it's ok and I don't want to die.

Donewithdip, I'm only on day 4 right now but its about deciding to quit every day. Don't worry about quitting for life right now, just quit today. Then once tomorrow comes just quit for that day. I found that it has been much less stressful of a task this way and it hasn't been too difficult. It will absolutely suck don't get me wrong, but its most certainly doable. You have to want it.

DWD - roll is what we do each day to promise to other quitters that we are quitting nicotine for the day. April roll is the one you will want to post in as that is when you will hit your "Hall Of Fame" date (which is your 100 days quit date) so they call it April Roll.

April Pre-HOF Group (http://forum.killthecan.org/topic/11465559/361/#new) is where you will want to post each day. Do it early in the day to make your promise that you will not use any type of nicotine of any kind for the next 24 hours and make that promise for your group. This month is a big group of people and we will all be there to help you with support of any kind or just a place to vent or rage when you go through the withdrawal of nicotine. I'm currently on day 14 and it isn't much fun but we all help each other along. There are some women on the site...I'm not one of them but I know there are around.

Click on the link and just add your first post and state that DWD Day 1 - I quit nicotine today! and you have posted roll. You will eventually get a hang of it.

I quit with you today!

Well lifesaver wint-o-green flavored mints have helped me tremendously. Gum too, but the mints always seemed to take the edge off things when I was feeling anxious. Honestly I just don't want it anymore though. I'm addicted and that's all there is too it. I don't want to be nicotines slave anymore so no matter how much it hurts me to stay quit, it would hurt me more to cave. You can do this, you just have to WANT it. Do it for you because you're tired of it dictating your day. There's a post somewhere on here that says 100 reasons to quit and you'll be able to relate to most of them. Check it out.

And yep you posted roll today! Good work.

Great thank you! I love those mints in general (just love winter green flavor) so I can use them as a tool too quit, I'm kind of worried about getting up tomorrow because I like to dip first thing in the morning before I brush my teeth, but I'm not going to do it.

It's great that you have made the decision to quit! B)B

When you wake up tomorrow get online and post your promise in the April group. If you are a woman of your word that post will take that morning dip right off the table for the day! Get back in here and read the Words of Wisdom and Hall of Fame Speeches.

I quit with you today!

Hi there.
How is your day going?
You will get more that just frustrated in this first week, but drink lots of water, use gum, mints, seeds, whatever you have to to not go back, this will suck, but its temporary. You can make it through craves, rages, all of it. You have to want it , the quit, Bad.
Jump into live chat. I sent you my digits, text me.

Hey dwd, look up Chick and Ashley these 2 ladies are badass and can shed light from a woman's prospective. Very hard addiction to quit. I'm sure you're finding that out right now. I always thought about my kids and grandkids not wanting to hug me or give me a kiss, if I continued on dipping and they took half my face off. One day at a time! Tomorrow is 24 hours away. You can do this you're not alone anymore. The fog, the rage, the anxiety stay focused get through it. Don't take your anger out on your family, they didn't stuff that shit in your lip. Come on here we can handle it, some may rage back. Put your big girl panties on you gonna have to have them! Damn proud of you! You should be also! Quit on, every time you want to pack that lip remember it could be the fatal one in the long run!

This is copied from a badass quitter that gave this advice a while ago... I am just re-pasting it for you.
and good to text with you today, when my schedule clears lets talk if you need. OK?

I am going to offer you some advice, from a fellow bad ass quitter, and links that should help you through some nasty days. this quitting addiction is not easy but it is possible.

1 - drink lots of water, it really helps flush your system and curb cravings
2 - find an alternative to dip that works for you: cinnamon candies, fake dip, lifesavers, sex...
3 - when you get a bad craving do something physical: run, walk, push ups, sit ups and complete that until the craving goes away
4 - with both of you quitting rage will be very hard to manage, both irritable, moody and some days just unbearable. get on here and go to chat and Mother Fuck some poor unsuspecting jackass, because the odds are that you will never meet that jackass...just might save your marriage or court costs
5 - read other stories on here too, Kern is one of my personal favorites as well but there are many other examples that will pull at your heart strings
6 - use this Spousal Support (http://www.killthecan.org/community/spousal-support/) information for both you and your husband to open your eyes to what is going on
7 - this will help you identify the Symptoms of Quitting Dip  Chew (http://www.killthecan.org/your-quit/symptoms-of-quitting-dip-chew/)
8 - What to expect when you quit dipping (http://www.killthecan.org/your-quit/what-to-expect-when-you-quit-dipping/)
9 - And so you see that you are a minority but certainly not alone Women and smokeless tobacco use (http://www.killthecan.org/facts-figures/women-and-smokeless-tobacco-use/)
10 - trade phone numbers with other quitters and maybe use your husband too and find a way to promise one another daily in the process

P.S. all of the underlined and bold words are links to the KTC webpage or the forum.

Welcome to the brotherhood! It is going to be a long crazy ride but all of us in the BROTHERHOOD are behind you 100%.
Make that promise to not pick that can up ever again, you will want to, but don't give in to the Nic Bitch. She will whisper sweet nothings in your ear to get you to re-commit to her, I now she is sexy to look, she is a 10 right now, but like the saying goes, I went to bed at 2 with a 10 and woke up at 10 with a 2. That's what she will look like after some time a 2, then she will just disgust you to look at her. Hang in there we are all here for you! 'bang head'

I think you still are, but you didn't answer my last text.

Should have stated for your celebration.

Hope you're still quit.
