Today is Day 2 of my final quit. I am a 36 year old who has dipped on and off (mostly on) for 17 years. I have a great wife and 3 little boys. I have come up with some of the most creative excuses to start dipping again that it is scary. I am now at the point that it is causing health issues, mostly blood pressure related and know that I need to quit for good.
I haven't quit in a few years and always used the patch or gum in the past with varied results. I am going cold turkey this time, but have to say I feel like crap. It literally is painful to swallow and i am so achy/sore I feel like I played in the Super Bowl.
I have read a bunch of posts here and I am inspired by all of your mental toughness and fortitude. I look forward to getting to know some of you and leaning on you one day at a time.

Glad your here.
Get in your group and post the promise not to use nic everyday when you get up. I never tried to quit before after 9years of dipping and I am on day 55. Its hard but has been totally worth it.
Best wishes you quitter!!

I woke up on Day 3 with an incredibly sore throat, drinking water felt like swallowing razor blades. Of course in my current state of mind I felt like I needed a dip to stop being such a pus. I went to the doc this afternoon and it turns out I do have strep. He didn't think it was related to my quit, but this has happened every other time I have tried to quit, so I disagree.

Great work going to the doctor, did you tell him about your chewing history?
Get on meds and give it a couple weeks, if it doesn't go away, go back or get a second opinion.
I lost a lot of sleep thinking every tingle was cancer, the mind can really convince you.
Stay active, quit, and heal each day.

I did tell him about it and I had told him before. He didn't seem to think it had much of a correlation. As an aside, I live in Philly and I don't think that a lot of doctors have a lot of experience with dip.
