Title: Well, I did it
Post by: Done4myson on October 14, 2016, 11:18:00 AM
Hey all, Kyle here
I finally said enough is enough on October 9th 2016. I was actually sick with some kind of stomach bug and couldn't take a dip for the life of me but after that had come and gone I was just determined to let go of my addiction. I have an 8 month old at home who is one of my biggest driving forces to stay off the stuff, along with a hottie of a wife who never bitched about it, although she hated it. She has given me lots of support and encouragement throughout the beginning of this journey. I fish and hunt a lot so I knew that was going to be the hardest part for me as it was the time I enjoyed a dip the most, I took the boat out and although it was hard, I focused on fishing and enjoying the outdoors with out it.
I honestly got to the point where I wasn't even enjoying it anymore and realistically doing it to supply my craving as it would manage my day by when and where and how long I got to keep it in. From 15-20 years of age I would do it from time to time along with cigs, then the doc told me I would be hauling around an oxygen tank if I didn't lose the cigs, so I picked up dipping full time at the age of 20 till now, I'm 31, that's roughly $15,000 that I spit into a cup, bottle, on the ground, in the toilet, etc..
All this to say I plan on sticking with it and this forum will help to hold me accountable and read others struggles along the way.
Good luck to all that fight the good fight, and stay strong.

Kyle - Join up with the January 2017 group. Post up your day count. Your Day 1 is the day you quit so if you had a dip on 10/9 and that was your last dip, that is day 1 and today would be Day 6 for you.

Also - glad you have stated it is an addiction because that is exactly what it is. We are all addicts here and we always will be. We don't be cured from this. We come here to make sure that we don't fall into the grasp of the poisonous weed we have been putting in our lips for days/months/years. We also do this every day...there is no break. There is no excuse for not coming here each day and posting up early in the morning. We don't post up at night...it is a promise we make each morning to ourselves to keep quit for that day and then we do it again the next day. You made sure you woke up and had your dip each day...you sure as hell can make sure you wake up and come here and post up each day.

Lastly - you cannot quit for your son or your wife or your job or for something else other than yourself. You need to quit because YOU want to quit. You can only quit for yourself...if you don't, you will likely cave because it has happened countless times on these forums where you see someone quitting for their wives or their kids and they post up a Day 1 and then get to day 140 and then leave and then after a short time they come back and post up a Day 1 again. If you quit for YOU...you are ahead of the game and will be able to continue your quit journey.

Post up...get involved. Share your number with your group to get to know them and have someone help you be accountable. The program works here and I'm proof of it 283 days in. Never did I go this long in my 22 years...NEVER!

Let's start your quit!

I did go to the roll call and add my name to the list (hope I did it right).
I am fully committed and only doing this for my self and my self alone, the reason for the name and bringing up the wife is because they are my real motivation in life. I want to honor them by my choice to quit and quit for good. I really do appreciate all that this group has to offer and I will continue to do the roll call as it will truly help with the accountability aspect. Looking forward to getting through this and helping others along the way.

What are your plans for staying quit this weekend?
Thanks for the kind words, and I definitely agree with the resentment part of quitting as I have tried before and had those same feelings, therefore the wife never said another thing about it for years, this time after 4 days in I told the wife I was done, she was shocked, nervous, and unsure how real I was being with her. She's super happy about the decision and we have conversations multiple times a day about it. I'm loaded up with mints, gum and jerky for now and typically have 2-3 strong cravings a day, I think about the man I want to be and that's enough to stay strong. This weekend I plan on staying busy doing projects around the house and take the boat out fishing as saltwater therapy is the best thing for me.

Done - its the little things that count. A weekend quit plan?...F'n awesome. That's quitting at it's finest. Not to mention you got Brett to jump on your quit train...baddest of the badasses right there.

One thing...about the quitting for yourself thing (and I know lots already answered this and offered legit advice). Admittedly, it was weird at first for me to get my mind to think inwardly, that it was 100% about me. But I got there and came to a realization which fully justifies the selfishness. When you succeed in your quit, all of those around you will reap the benefits of you being quit. Friends, spouses, your kids...are all going to be better off because you quit. So, the point is...be proud of your selfishness from here on out.

Keep it up brother!

I second that, the right attitude is key in a quit. Learn to hate nicotine in all it's forms, and quit every damn day (EDD).

I have to say the two things I was worried/unsure of was fishing and hunting because they are where I enjoyed a dip most of all but I have had great luck with it not bothering me nearly as much as I thought.

This past weekend I fished a redfish tournament and my brother had dip with him, although it was tough I was able to stay strong and managed to win 1st place, I also won football squares, and a $100 bet for the Cowboys, so I would say that quitting has not only saved me money but now made me money! lol

With duck hunting starting on Saturday I know it will be tough as it will be close quarters with some of my closest friends doing what we love but I know I will stay strong and stay the coarse. I am doing far better than I thought I would so whoever is contemplating quitting just do it!! Its the best decision you can make.

Tight line and straight shots,
Kyle

No doubt I agree with yall, it has been a sense of freedom in a way not to be so controlled by the idea of having a dip in those situations and not having anxiety if I ran out or forgot it on a trip.

I have enjoyed the outdoors more now than ever as it really is my stress reliever!

Day 27 for me today and I feel great, the wife is also loving not picking up multiple spit cups on a daily basis, lol

Have a great day everyone and a Big Congrats to the World Series Winners the Chicago Cubs, it was a historical and awesome game 7 to watch last night!!

I still love how i don't have to worry about keeping myself in supply of the evil stuff! used to have to stock up to travel, always try to find the freshest, etc. No.Dang.More!!!

Keep the great attitude going to carry you through and serve as an example for others! Quitting is hard stuff but attitude can make a huge difference!

Great job DoneFor! I have found that I love fishing even more now that I am quit. I also found out that I only liked golf for the dipping. You are doing great. Use all the tools you are learning here and youll be fine. It sound like you have the right attitude.
I'm still amazed that I thought some things in life wouldn't be as fun without a dip in.

Omg.
Duh.

Biggest nic lie ever.
Freedom rocks, dude. Enjoy!
Oh how I remember always saying how it was a stress reliever. I'm less stressed now without it. Talk about a victory.

And congrats to you on 27 days- each day is a great victory! Already recognizing that you enjoy the outdoors more than ever it great too-- way to claim the benefits of your new freedom!

Love hearing freedom success stories. Everything is better without that shit. LEarn to hate it and Love the freedom. Nice work Done4

I do appreciate all of the people of this group who encourage others and post positive vibes. I had a great opening weekend of duck hunting here in Texas.

I was off the grid until the evenings and it seems there are some weekend keyboard warriors that use there weekends to shame others who have a life.

I am all about sticking with it and doing what I can to make roll an everyday thing, although the people who stalk the forums looking for those that post late or don't post on the weekends really need to find something else to do. Find a hobby, get an extra job, volunteer, do something to keep your mind right.

Ill be here to quit everyday even with the haters looking to start shit!

Keep on keepin on and live well.

Poof is just someone deleting a screwed up post. No biggie. I am pumped you are quit 27 days. Huge stuff and anyone who's quit knows how hard it is to get there.
HOWEVER, in time I think you will learn to thank the guys/gals who are tracking you down (1) to see you are ok and still quit (2) those same guys / gals care enough to be
worried, concerned, pissed that you are not on roll. It just goes to the accountability part of our success here at KTC. Easy fix. GEt some numbers text your promise and those
people in your group will pick you up. Also helps to let you group know that you are "off grid" and posting late. All good. Posting early insures your promise for the day. Communication is key.
Glad you are quit. Rock on!!!!!

The whole idea behind why this method works is people will hold you accountable. That means chasing you down if you aren't on roll. It's not usually keyboard warrioring (although it can definitely appear that way). For the most part, it's people that care whether you are quit.

Also, it's important to post roll when you wake up, ESPECIALLY early in your quit. Take it off the able first thing in the day and you'll be amazed at the relief because all you have to do for the rest of the day is maintain your integrity. If you aren't going to have internet, text somebody your promise and they can get you up on roll. The important part is making the promise, as early as possible, every single day.

It really all boils down to this: KTC is not a method for keeping track of the number of days you have not used nicotine. It's about posting your promise to your fellow quitters that you will hold them accountable and you are accepting them holding you accountable. It works. Don't fight it, just go with it.

Hey bro I love hunting and fishing but my quit is my main concern. At 681 day's I still struggle. So before I even start getting ready to go I take literally 2 minutes to post roll. If im gonna stay somewhere with no service I text my promise to one of my brothers!

Wow! You've had a very outrageous day! I remember when I was 31. "Aloof and uncompromising" is how one VP of the company I worked for described me. You are 31. My oldest daughter is 30. Your son is 8 months old. My grandson is 255 days old. I am 257 days quit. I didn't quit for him. I quit for me. I'm tired of using nicotine, and I'm addicted to it.

I admire you. I wish I had wanted to quit at age 31, not waiting until I reached 56. It is what it is, and I am what I am. If you stick with it, you can remain quit. You only have one other choice - using. You are using, or you are quit. Either way, you get to choose. You have only yourself to blame for either choice.

It's pretty simple, staying quit, but it's not easy. The only way to stay quit is to stay quit. Do what you have to do to stay quit. As long as it is as important as anything else in your life, you can make it work.

Read my intro, see what I've been through. Read others' intros, see what they've been through. You'll find someone who's quit is similar to yours. You don't have to go through this alone. Actually, it's almost impossible to go through this alone. I've seen some very strong people, retired USMC even, cave twice, trying to beat this addiction on their own.

Welcome to KTC.
