2 days ago I made the decision to quit this nasty habit. Of course, being on a plane flying from Abu Dhabi to Florida with no dip available helped ;) But here it is 2 days later and I am sticking it out. I gave up a heavy smoking habit 30 years ago. Hard to believe I would pick up a new nicotine habit 6 years ago at the age of 54, just in a can this time. I can try and place blame on stress, work, travel etc but it actually rests entirely on me. I retire next Fri and I am ready to get my life in order.

Congratulations on making the decision to quit. Doesn't matter how you came to that decision, you made it and now you are here. Step 1 - done. Good.
Now, read up on the site and what to do. First order of business is to get your name on the roll call May 2015 will be your group, because should you succeed (and you will succeed) you will reach 100 days of quit in the month of May. So go to the May 2015 group and get your name on the roll call. This is your promise, that you will not use nicotine for that day. You will post your name on that thread every day and along with your May quit brothers, we will all quit with you one day at a time.
One other piece of advice, start thinking about your "habit"...I just want you to know that nicotine is much bigger than that and the foe you are up against is called addiction. The act of putting dip in your mouth or a cigarette in your mouth and smoking or spitting is the habit, but that's not why you can't stop. It's the nicotine. It's a drug and it's as addicting as heroin. To succeed, this will take everything you got, so get that name on roll, read up, ask questions, and get involved in your quit. We're here to do the same.

Chief, congratulations on making it here brother! In order for this place to help you, you will need (at least) a few things:
1. You will need to commit to being on here every day and making a promise that you will not use.
2. You will need to honor your word when you post roll not to use that day.
If you focus on one day at a time, form connections, and are honest with yourself and everyone here, you will be 100 days quit in no time.
Check out my introduction in my signature, it's all the same, we are all addicts!
You can do this!

Hey Chief, noticed you posted day 3 Congrats!! That is huge because it takes 72 hours for your body to eliminate all nicotine. Now it's just a mental battle.
The war is on... Your mind is telling you it needs something, when you don't.. It's a lie. You don't do or handle anything better with nicotine.
Sorry it sucks... But it will until it doesn't.
Don't think ahead... Just think about today, the hour, the minutes. And if it makes you mad get on this page and tell us about it.
We are all here to help.
I quit with you today
PM me if you need anything, or have any questions.
Congrats on your retirement, now you can get some work done B)B

What up Chief? You've got some seriously strong quitters that have posted to your thread already. Listen to their advice, make the contacts, and welcome brother! Congrats on your retirement and on your 3 days!

Chief, welcome. You are in great company here. Listen to the veterans and other BAQ (Bad Ass Quitters) and you will go far. Make a name for yourself in a good way by becoming reliable, accountable, and available in giving or receiving advice. This site will save your life. Literally. But you also get out of it what you put in.
One pointer in addition to Posting Roll and Making Contacts:
Blog on your Intro or in your quit group. Paint an accurate, vivid picture of what it's like to go through Hell those first couple days or weeks, and use it as fuel for when your quit inevitably becomes 'complacent' or 'easier'. We want that hatred for nicotine to remain high to avoid temptation, because this devil drug will whisper lies in your ears that you have it beat, 'just one more won't hurt' bs, etc

Good to see you on roll call! I quit with you today.
