So I'm right in the middle of day 3 of this quit. I like to think of it as my final quit. I've started the quit may times over the last 38 years of chewing and what is different this time is me. Every time I have tried to quit in the past, I didn't really want to quit. I loved my snuff. Oh it was the greatest thing ever. Sure I know the dangers, but I didn't care. I tried to quit for my wife. I've tried to quit just because I knew I should. But I never really deep down wanted to quit.
Now I'm just tired of it. Do I think I'm going to miss it. Yeah, probably badly at times, but I am determined to do this. I even went with a different strategy this time. Every other time I quit, I waited until I was done with a can then quit. Not this time. I quit with half a can left and I have carried it every day. By doing this, I can tell myself that the choice not to chew is my choice, not for lack of having any. So far this has worked well for me. Normally I am not someone to be near while quitting, or just out for 30 minutes, but this time is different. Everyone says quitting is 95% mental and I know I can kick it this go round, cause my mind is finally right

Great job on making it 3 days. That's awesome. Now...Dump the rest of that shit down the toilet. You may think it is keeping that half can is helping you but as soon as you have a bad day, I guarantee having that half can so close is going to put you back at day 1. So before you rear any further... Dump that shit in the toilet. First, welcome to KTC. This forum works best if you follow the one simple rule, post Roll every morning in your quit group. This is you promising to not to use nicotine for 24 hours (1 day). Every morning when you get up, you take a piss and then you make your promise to yourself and all the other quitters in your group, then you repeat the next day and so on. It would do you good to get to know some of the other members in your group and exchange phone numbers as this adds an extra layer of accountability.
You will be surprised how strong of an influence that promise is. I have dreamt that I was chewing and I woke up feeling completely horrible because I thought I welched on my promise to not use nicotine.
If you want to keep half a can of something in your pocket get a can of Smokey Mountain Herbal Snuff (no tobacco and no nicotine) and put that in your pocket.

I agree, you need to get rid of that half can, and join the May '18 quit group. Post your promise, keep your promise. It's that simple.
Once you get past day three, quitting is 100% mental - the nicotine has flushed out of your body, and the physical withdrawals are over.

Dump the can as soon as possible!
I did the same thing, kept my trophy can around and the vets told me to dump it -- I did and SOOOOO glad I listened to their advice. I am going to give it to you straight -- YOU WILL get craves and having that can is dangerous. I would not be here today at 179 days Quit if I had NOT listened and kept that can. The Nic Bitch has a strong pull on us addicts -- having that poison hanging around is a disaster waiting to happen.
Flush the can -- Post Roll Everyday -- Embrace the Suck! Those are my best words of advice.

You posted in the middle of day 3. The first three days are the worst so it gets better. But not much better and it takes a long time to get that shit out of your system.
Here is some advice I like to share with new quitters to assist in your quit:
The main way to be successful is to just decide that you have quit. Once you stop the negotiating in your head as to whether you will do one more or not the rest becomes far more simple.
Next, learn to distract your attention from your desire for a dip to anything else that interests you. This ability to change your focus will guarantee your success and make your quit that much easier.
When you place a dip in your mouth, your brain releases sugars. Well, those sugars are now going to be gone.
However, you can replace them with OJ or other fruit juices with sugar. This will provide some comfort, especially on your initial quit days.
Make sure to exercise with weights and cardio when you feel that nagging tension in your muscles, you feel that rage, when you can not sleep and when you cannot focus. Exercise really helps.
Here is one that most people overlook. Get at least 3 square meals a day. Hunger can really bring on those urges. So squash those urges before they come. Eat full healthy meals and do not let yourself get excessively hungry. You will see this helps a great deal.
I waited until I was 59 quit after using tobacco for 40 years. You are wise to quit now.
