I'm new here but I have to say that this site inspired me to quit chewing about two weeks ago. I read through all of the HOF descriptions and this made me feel 100% confident that I could quit cold turkey. I have already saved $100 in this time which is huge because I work a seasonal job and don't have much money during a few winter months. I started chewing in high school when I was 15 and moved to cigarettes when I was in my first year of college(18). Continued smoking until I was 23, two packs a day, and I started on the dip again. I will be 25 in August and up until I quit I had gotten up to 2 cans/day. I think the hardest part for me will be starting work again Monday and being outside all day and around co-workers that have huge chompers in. That being said, I really haven't had to many urges to take one but if I do I just throw in a huge wad of paper towels. I got the idea for paper towels by Joe Maddon, the manager for the MLB Tampa Bay Rays. I haven't had any mood swings or anything like that so I am really surprised at how well I'm taking it. Anyway, thanks to all on this site for the encouragement.

Welcome Hawk. Good to have you here. Plain and simple, you're about to go through some nasty shit, but nothing as nasty as dip. That's were we come in. This place is holy.
First thing you're gunna wanna do is read up in the Welcome Center (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showforum=13). Here, you'll get the entire premise behind KTC, what roll is, and how to do it. This is essentially your KTC bible, handbook, whatever you'd like to call it.
After that, head over to the May 2012 (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=5841) Quit Group. Depending on what "about 2 weeks" is, your quit date should fall in here. Using the information and directions in the Welcome Center, post up your Day (X) and that's it. That's your promise to not use for that entire day. Hold your promise, your integrity, and take accountability. Wake up the next morning, repeat. KTC is a day by day operation and that's how we tackle our addictions.
At the top right of the page, check out the Live Chat link sometime. Sign up and enter the chat room. Here you can interact with fellow quitters. Form bonds, exchange numbers, and most importantly... establish a QUIT PLAN. How will you prevent a cave when the cravings hit hard?
If you have any questions or concerns feel free to PM me. If you'd like a number, I can certainly give you one as well. I quit with you today brother.

Thanks. I forgot to add that my mom was recently diagnosed with cancer and sarcoidosis and that is another part of my motivation. I mean who wants to have half a face or die? The worst problem I face to this point is the fact that I can't sleep at all. I have only slept for five hours the last three days. Upon further research I found that this is not entirely uncommon. I'll check out the live forum too.

Terribly sorry to hear that Hawk. Thoughts and prayers go out to you and your beloved ones. I lost 3 of 4 grandparents before I even had a chance to remember them.
Check this (http://www.killthecan.org/) out. Tons of great reading in here as well. Under "Your Quit", you'll find some great information as to what to expect in the next X amount of days. Bear in mind however, that IT GETS BETTER. Remember days 1-14 and how shitty they were. I can guarantee you'll NEVER want to repeat them.
Again, if you need some digits, I got you.

Yeah I read through that stuff the other day and most of it is common sense but the hard part is actually telling yourself those things. Can't wait till the end of next year when I have saved a couple grand and hopefully I can get a new car. Just going to set daily goals and get myself there. Exercise more often to bring stress levels down. 'boob'

I will be 25 in September. I was a slave to nicotine for 10 years. You will not regret this decision. Make sure that you post roll EVERYDAY. Never miss a single day. Also, judging by your username, I think you and I have another thing in common. Do you live in Iowa. I live in Des Moines and am a longtime fan of the Hawks. Be sure to post that roll everyday brother. Vent your frustrations on here. Don't take it out on your wife or girlfriend. Yell at us. We can take it.
Remember, using nicotine is something you USED TO do. Never again for any reason. You can do this man. Let's see that roll post.

You've got the right idea brother. Looking ahead is great but ultimately it is waking up and re-quitting each and every single day that keeps us heading towards that future. Good work. Let's get roll posted up man.

Yep I sure do live in Iowa. Currently in Iowa City and from Atlantic in southwest Iowa. What do you guys mean by posting roll? Do I just come here and post at least once a day? Once I start work back up I work 60 hours a week so I don't know if I will have time for that but will sure do my best if that is the case.

Use the Welcome Center link to learn about roll. Essentially, roll is your promise to the fellow quitters in your quit group and all supporters that you will be FREE for today and today only.
Once you've gotten it figured out, it's incredibly simple. Instead of waking up at 6 AM or whatever your alarm is at, wake up at 5:58 and you'll be good to go for the day.
Your quit group is here (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=5841).

Yes, you post roll when you wake up in the morning. Everyday. This is your promise to all of us that you will not use nicotine for that whole day. This is where the accountability comes from. If you don't post roll, there is no accountability and your quit will not be strong. Also, not to be too harsh, but if you don't get in a habit of posting roll everyday, your quit probably won't be successful. Never miss a day posting roll. I am willing to bet you have tried quitting on your own before. I have, dozens of times. Every single time I failed because I didn't have anyone to answer to. One of the biggest motivators in my quit is making sure I keep my word to all of my quit brothers. They care about me staying quit as much as I do. You can't buy support like this man, but you have to post roll everyday and keep your word. Anything less is unacceptable

I think I got it. But I'm not sure if it is 100% correct or not.

Not quite. You gotta quote roll from the most recent roll post. Also, make sure to just add your username and number of days quit. You accidentally deleted some names from the quitter and the support section. It will get easier for you with practice.
Watch this video about how to post roll:

Hawk, there's also a Practice Thread (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=345) where you can work on your roll posting skills away from all the commotion of a quit group. You will also usually be able to get some feedback on what you need to do in order to get things further nailed down.

Alright now I think I got the hang of it. BTW I actually got some sleep this morning for once.
-
That's great news, Hawk. If you need anything let me know.
Edit: Make sure that from now on when posting a roll in your quit group, your name and quit number goes in the quitter section to keep clarity within the list.

Yep I noticed that when I went back to the test page. I fixed it though.
