Title: Shit or get off the pot
Post by: TK-KK on August 09, 2014, 11:55:00 AM
Hey All -

Name: Tony
Age: 28
Family: wife, 4 month daughter, yellow lab
Interests: working out, fishing, golf, family time, BBQ'in, stock trading
Location: Houston TX

So after 12 years of Copenhagen I decided time for a change. I finally reached the point where it was the last draw. Sure I knew the health reasons, sure I knew I could get cancer, but none of that seemed to deter me for more than a couple hours. I met my wife at 17 and all she has ever known was I'm a dipper. Told her I would quit before we got married in Oct. 2010 - that didn't work. Told her I would quit before daughter was born April 2014 - that didn't work. Then finally after knowing I needed to quit but just not taking the step to change I asked myself one question. What is your response going to be when your daughter asks you for some of the stuff in that can? How are you going to feel when she wants to do everything daddy does, yet you are showing her a bad example.

Decided at that point that my immediate family is going to break the nicotine curse that has plagued my family for generations.

I will be a role model for my daughter and any future kids. I will take my life back and enjoy everything about it with no nicotine.

I will quit today - focus on tomorrow when it gets here - and be the husband and father my family needs

Feel free to message me or swap digits. And if your ever in the Houston area, give me a shout.

Good job. Glad you're quit. Post roll every day and you will succeed.

Life is way better without nicotine.

Great choice to quit! Read everything on KTC! Start with the welcome center and keep going from there. All the knowledge you need is here. The KTC plan works. Learn the plan. Live the plan. The first part of your quit will suck, but before you know it there will come a day when it doesn't suck. Read KTC, drink lots of H2o, exercise, and just get through today. Hell just get through it one minute at a time. Fight like your life depends on it. You can do this.

Oh, did I mention that you should READ EVERYTHING HERE?

Welcome Tony

Make sure your doing this for you. Not for them.

Otherwise you already failed.

You've come to the right place with a great attitude! Remember, being quit is for you. Everyone and everything else is secondary.

Promised her you'd Quit ? Hell why do it now ? She will still love you. Your kids won't even know what snuff is for years ? You can do it like I did. I made the same promise to my fiancé. 25 years ago on Aug 5 th this year. Finally kept that promise. Just took 25 years. What a doche eh?
I'm being purely facisious. But it's true. Man up and do it. You'll always thank your self. And freedom really does wait ahead for you. Each day, each +1, it gets easier. You can do it bro. And you'll be in great company. Proud to be quit with you.

Welcome

like these guys mention, this quit is for you. It is to get the nicotine out of your body so that you are clean for yourself first. Then when you take that forward, the rest will follow and make you better (as the perks are awesome).

So trust me as it will take time, but let the time heal

you will do this. just keep making that promise each and every day and honoring it.

Welcome and nice job posting roll. This will be the best decision you've ever made. It can be tough and suck but not as much as dying from self-induced cancer.
As you can tell by a lot of the comments on your intro, we are a little concerned that you are doing this for your daughter or wife or both but not yourself. This has to be a selfish endeavor. What will you tell your wife when you can't kiss her because you don't have a jaw? What will you tell that little girl when you are about to die and leave her and her mother alone because you loved to suck on a poisonous weed?
Your family is great motivation...but you gotta quit for yourself. You've got to want this like a fat girl wants pie. More than a drowning man wants air.
Read all you can. Knowledge is your secret weapon against the nic whore. The more you know, the less power she has with you. Breath deep and take the difficult times minute by minute. The craves will pass with or without nicotine. Problem is if you use nicotine...they will be back and never get better.
We focus on the now and today, (that's what roll is all about), because it is all we can control. If we look too far ahead, our addict brains can't deal with it.
Be as active as you can and reach out to any and all quitters. This is how you save your own life.
PM me if you need anything.

Thanks for all the comments and concerns. Please note this IS for ME first. I like the focus towards my family as that is additional personal motivation, but at the end of the day this is my quit.

Day 39 Update:

What a wild ride the last 39 days. I can honestly say August 2014 will go down as a blur in my memory for the most part due to my addiction withdraws. But, I can also say the skies have opened and I have started to enjoy life again. Had a week vacation and stayed home with the wife and baby and enjoyed every minute of it and did not experience craves all that much.

To the new class of Dec'14 I challenge you to not think about the future but just rather one day at a time. The future will bring relief I promise, but truly focus on how bad things suck right now so you never forget that feeling.

Tomorrow I will post Day 40 - and with each day added my quit becomes that much stronger.

Happy to quit with all the KTC brothers and sisters.

Day 112

Sitting on the couch enjoying the week off work for the holidays and had me thinking about my quit. I hit the 100 day mark and I realized a couple things.

1) It's awesome to reach a personal goal but truthfully it was just another day.
2) I still get craves and have days that I don't give a fuck what gets accomplished other than not dipping.
3) I have saved a can/day in cash and feel that has added to my drive. I am a finance guy and I guess seeing the cash build up is fun for me. I honestly pull out money every week to put in a box simply to keep the process of it going.

From all of this I have had some up and down days but what I always remember is, I have NEVER heard anyone say " yeah I quit for a while and then failed and I'm so glad I did." So even when there are down days trust me it's a better day than being a user.

I plan to write my HOF speech, but personally not a fan of it at 100 days. I think I need to leave that unaccomplished piece of my quit in front of me for a while longer.

See you guys on tomorrow's roll.

HOW BOUT THEM COWBOYS !!!!!

You don't quit nicotine by using other forms of nicotine.

Just like when you stopped cheating on your girlfriend by switching to transvestites...... still cheating.

Fuck your weaning off. Your keeping yourself in a long slow state of withdrawl, If you succeed it will be inspite of yourself. But you won't, because your attitude is all fucked up.

90% of all long term successful quits are cold turkey ( American Cancer Society) !! What does that statistic tell you?

All your doing is substituting one delivery method for another... you haven't quit jack shit. The patch, the gum, the lozenge, , cigs, dip. leaf , plug.... all the same drug

THE SAME DRUG

get your shit together.... sorry for fucking up your thread TK I will delete if you ask.

NRT simply doesn't work. Brain dopamine pathways cannot adjust to functioning without nicotine while it continues to arrive. Users don't quit because of NRT, but in spite of it. And, yes, replacement nicotine is both directly and indirectly costing lives.

Glad you found this site. You probably won't read this which is fine and if you do you will prob have nic in your system which is fine as well. There must be something you see in this site or you wouldn't have joined. At the same token you landing on my intro helps me in my quit as I was like you once, a smart ass who thought I knew it all. Now I look at people like you and feel sorry that they are too fucking stupid to understand.

Either way I hope you grow up and realize that you aren't doing yourself any justice with any form of nicotine. On the other hand you may just tell me to fuck off and that's fine too. If you are one of the unfortunate ones to get struck with mouth cancer don't come running back acting like a bitch cause you will just get a fuck off from me as well bro.

Awesome post sir! Just let it out and it helps me with my quit as well. Glad the hear you are using someone else's stupidity to help yourself out.

like SM said... NRT doesn't work I tried twice and failed. Actually dipped while using the patch ... Hardcore dumbass.

PS. Nolaq's got patience... Callin a mod a pussy bitch I wouldn't have even warned the ass.

PS2. I passed my nic test for work so excited!
