Title: NO REASON TO QUIT
Post by: sjfdmicp on August 20, 2009, 05:04:00 PM
I started with Copenhagen at the age 19 y/o when I started in the fire service and all the older guys chew Copenhagen so I gave it a try and it made me sick but that did not stop the drug calling my name. That started 1/2 can a day for next 20 years. No Reason to QUIT:

I have the money to buy a can

The wife does not care if I chew

I like to chew

The guys a work chew.

I have no problem in my mouth that I can see

I have quit a couple of times over the 20 + years just to have the drug call me back. I was over the 100 day mark before.

I DO NOT WON'T TO CHEW FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE

Day NUMBER 6 ( Clean) no chew

This time I am going to quit for good with the help and support.

I am all over the place with the first post. I am on some good drugs I had all four wisdom teeth pulled on Sat. I am 42 y/o and that is some hell pain going on in my mouth jaw area. My face is like a blow fish. I this is my two week window off from work high on pain pills. I am just looking for support for the long hall.

Sounds like a good time for a quit! Mouth is sore, drowsy and drugged up...... Try to stay focused. Hang in there!

Well, welcome aboard. I am going to assume you have read enough about the site that this is a permanent thing, you are going cold turkey for good, not just while you are swollen like a blow fish. I will tell you that the people here are serious about this, so make sure you mean it.

I see that you posted up Day 6 on roll for the November group. That is your promise to everyone on this site that you will not dip. Drag yourself in here every day and make that promise all over again.

Make some buddies in your group. Get some numbers to call. Stay on this site as often as you can, contribute to it, read, read, read, and stay quit. You've just made the best decision of your life. hop on for the ride.

I don't think there's any way in hell I'd crave if I were stoooooooooned on pain meds.

I'm not sure, only time will tell, but I think you may have picked a good time to quit...

Everyone experiences triggers associated with work. The downtime that firefighters face between training and calls can sometimes be a fairly big trigger because that's always been the easiest time to pop in a dip.

Another "trigger" that you're likely to face in the firehouse is the offer of a dip. So if you think you "need" to accept it try this out. Take the can from the fella offering it, open it, smell it, remember that if you take that dip this is your future, (http://www.killthecan.org/pics/) and dump the effin thing on the floor. It's likely to cause a bit of bruising but I'll wager no one offers you their tin after that.

Firefighters spend huge amounts of time training to save lives. Fact of the matter is that your life is the easiest to save right now by just making the constant decision to keep that crap outta your lip. And when you make it to the HoF, send me a jpeg of your department patch and I'll add it to the QSX patch board. (http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee297/11X4/QSXpatches.jpg)

Corey, that's awesome. I learn something new everyday. A patch page? That's good stuff.

100+

Today is 110 and the cravings have hit just as hard in the last couple of days like it was week one again 'bang head' . I just keep telling my brain it is just mind games. I will never go back but this will be a fight for the rest of my life.

Fuzzy fucker? ooooooohhh personal attack!!! I'm tellin a mod...wait uhhh never mind. I'm good, but feels like I have a big tattoo stamp on my forehead that reads craving addict for life. 300 is way better than 100 so I'm banking on the fact that 600 hundred has to be better than 300. I hope... In the mean time I waffle between feeling sorry for these guys and getting pissed at em.

It's a fine line...and yes 600 is waaaaaaaaaaaay better than 300...and it's not just 2x's better it's incrementally more substantial. We're all on the same day though. Today.

Yeah, Fuzzy-Fucker, what of it?  QuittinTime
SJ- this is a recent exchange I had with QT, the beginning is edited out but I think this addresses what your feeling. The fight goes on but it really does get easier. I still think that there must be a point where instead of fighting a giant were fighting a gnat. In the mean time just keep quitting one +1 at a time.

All I can tell you is I had the exact same experience right after the hall. After the "glory" of reaching the hall came and went I went into a pretty deep funk similar to the 80-90 day range. The good news is that it went away.

I PROMISE you there will be a day where you don't think or worry about it. I can't tell you that you'll ever be completely free but there definitely is a time where you won't have to focus so much attention on your daily quit.

Hang in there dude.

Gotta agree with Skoal and Chewie, I think my drop was at the 170 or 200 mark but it does get better, hang tough, pm me if you need a phone number, you got this one made, just a matter of willpower now.

SJ, I had the funk right after the hall just like you and Chewie have described, then again near 200 like divarty. The 300's got better, but I wondered if I would ever get out of the funks. Now, at 400+, i can say it is getting easier. Just HANG TOUGH and as we say in Jan 09, STAY THE FUCK QUIT!

YOU are in control...

500 days in my quit. If I can make it to this point after 20 years , it is possible that you can be suscusiful in your quit. 'Sing and Drink' 'Sing and Drink'. it is great 'lick me'
