I was planning to quit cold turkey tomorrow. I was just looking for some last minute tips to help me with this and I found this site. Here is my current worries after some reading. 1. 3 months ago I started a very good workout regimen and diet that I have stuck to and really enjoy. I was severely over weight and really out of shape. Since then I have lost 27 pounds and am starting to put on a nice muscle base. I am worried that quitting will simply ruin what I have done over the last 3 months due to the food cravings and lowered metabolism. 2. I am taking my family on a highly anticipated vacation in 2 weeks. We are driving 17 hours which I know driving is a big trigger for me. I am wroried if I quit now I may relapse while driving or I will simply be a big asshole and ruin our vacation. 3. I have read about all of the alternatives such as Smokeys and Mint Snuff. Problem is one of my reasons for quitting is monetary. I will be spending the same amount of money on these alternatives as the real thing.

I really do want to quit. I set my date for tomorrow and was really confident. I didnt realize that it would be that hard until doing research tonight. In all honesty i feel that by doing rrsearch it is scaring me away with my current situation. I have never tried to quit before. PLEASE SEND ME ANY ADVICE OR WORDS OF REASSURANCE YOU HAVE IN REGARDS TO MY SITUATION

You want to quit tomorrow? Screw that, QUIT NOW. Dump it in the crapper and be quit. This place is awesome. There is no tomorrow. We only look at today. Quit today and only for today. Check out the Welcome Center. learn how to Post Roll and do it daily. It is your promise to quit. This site is 100% no nicotine and no bullshit. You can do it. I used to dip to keep the weight off. I then figured I would rather be a bit overweight and alive than dipping and dead. You are gonna hear a ton of shit from people. The biggest question I can ask you is "are you man enough to quit, or are you weak?" Quit now.

I bought a can of Smokey Mountain on day 2. It lasted 5 days and I threw the rest out. Smokey will be helpful if you are worried about weight gain. Water consumption will obviously help. Coming on here is like a cry for help. If you want to quit, this is the place to be.

Here are my thoughts on your 3 areas of concern.

1 - Weight is a lot easier to shed than cancer.
2 - Every single dip you have taken in your life has been a choice that you made. Decide to NOT dip in the car.
3 - If you want to quit you can. We can help. Many have done it without "fake". I used damp green teabags sprinkled with cayenne, atomic fireballs, hard candy, seeds, gum, took picks, lots of different things.

If you are a man of your word then you will put your name on roll and honor your promise for that day. If you post roll on the morning of your 17 hour drive you are taking nicotine off the table. Quitting is a choice; so is using. Which will you chose TODAY (not tomorrow)?

Quit making excuses, you're an addict and that's all nicotine talking.

But I'll play along.

1. Like evil said, weight is easier to shed than cancer.
2. Unless your family wants you dead, I'm 100% sure they would rather put up with a quit asshole than have you pumping your body full of poison.
3. Most people don't stay on the substitutes forever. And even if you did, your argument is stupid. Would you rather pay to help stay quit or pay to poison yourself?

Quit being a slave. We're all addicts and those are all addict excuses. Man up and quit.

I don't think you got the balls to quit. I have a long drive. I'm worried about my weight. Prove me wrong.

Just quit and be done with it. The sooner you quit, the sooner you can take back your life. The weight gain thing is real, but if you already have a solid exercise routine and a healthy diet and you stick to it throughout your quit I am completely confident that you will gain little to no weight.

I lost 60 lbs in 6 months after quitting. I spend 2 hours a day in the car minimum, that used to be 120 solid minutes of pure nicotine love. I didn't use any alternatives, as monetary was also a motivator for me.

Today is day 442 for me.

If I can do it, you can do it. You gotta want it. And you gotta quit. It can be done.

Everyone's quit is different. You may not be angry from withdrawal once you're on the vacation.

Furthermore, if you really want to quit and you want to profess to all of the people on here that you really want to quit, then do it.

You want scary? Scary isn't being afraid of quitting. Scary is not being able to take that vacation some time down the road because you keep putting cancer in your lip.

Nice. Banger.

Also, about the weight gain...that's up to you. You don't have to gain a bunch of weight with a quit. If your quit needs some feeding, have some carrots, almonds, or other healthy snacks laying around that you can stuff your face with. Drink the absolute mother FUCK out of water. That will help on several levels. Is see you already exercise...good, do it more. It helps with stress also.

I actually read somewhere recently that the whole -quitting-nicotine-slows-your-metabolism is a bunch of horseshit anyway...that actually it's NICOTINE that lowers your metabolism generally, and that quitting may actually raise it in some people. Just depends. Bottom line is, quitting a habit that your body depended on for multiple years kind of puts everything in a tailspin for awhile. But its all temporary.

Last time I checked, jaw removal for oral cancer is pretty fucking permanent.

Let's quit today. I'll do it with you.

1. Weight gain...entirely up to you. I'm 46 days quit, haven't gained a pound. Plus it's easier to lose weight than it is to lose cancer.
2. 17 hour drive...it's up to you whether you dip or not, we all managed to quit and remain quit, cold turkey. You're not special, you can do it, too.
3. BS, you don't have to use fake chew. Use sugar free gum, mints, seeds, carrots...whatever. Or use nothing.
Brother, you're looking for someone to agree that now isn't the right time for you to quit. Not going to find that here. Man the fuck up. Quit. Do it now.

Not complicated.... Post roll EVERY DAMN DAY, keep your promise for that day, then repeat. Around here we do it one day at a time....do not worry about tomorrow, worry about today. You can do this if you want it bad enough

Awesome job posting roll.

The others have given you some fine advice and cleared the addict speak nonsense (driving, money, fake, weight, blah blah blah) quite well, so I will just add that you should check out the shit some other quitters have done.

I would like you to find the QSX endurance club (if you are a runner / endurance athlete post up), mainly to read Mike Land's recent race report. He has lost 100lbs since quitting, and completed a half marathon in just over 2 hours.

You will be amazed what quitting does for your exercise - the sheer will power it takes to quit will make you realize how mentally strong you really are, and your workouts will benefit greatly.

Identify those triggers so you'll be ready in the future to deal with them. Get numbers from your fellow quitters and build those relationships. Get online and read to pass time, go to chat. You can do it! One day at a time, one crave at a time.
