New to the site-first post
Day 14 today and thought I was really over the hump, but yesterday and today feel like a brick hit my gut.
Really looking forward to this site and talking with people who understand my pain.

Dude, do you realize that 14 days = 2 Weeks? That is fucking outstanding.
Whenever I encounter a roadblock in my quit, I focus on the good. You have been quit 2 weeks now and you should be proud. Keep increasing though. You will encounter some rough patches in your quit, but they typically don't last long and they get further between them. So power through and ask us for help if you need it.

Awesome job on the 14 days solo and wewlcome to the site!!! Quitting that shit is the best decision you will ever make!!! You can DO this one day at a time!!! Stay clost to the this site and you WILL reamin quit!!!!

Feel better already- Day 15 baby! 14 was tough and today didnt start great but feeling better already thanks fellas for the help yesterday.

You know- you quit and go through hell for 4 days, symptoms subside a bit you feel better things are good. Day 13 comes and fucking smokes your ass and you want a chew like no tomorrow. Day 14 brings the same only to get to 15 and feel better and so on. The pattern hopefully gets better right? Shit- i feel good now but feel like it will be 2 more days and ill be finding myself curled over!

They will get farther and farther apart and way easier to brush off.

So you want to quit. And you would like to know what it's like. We're not going to pull any punches around here, it's tough. That's why we're all here.
Days 1 through 3 - Pure hell. You will walk in the fog. Nothing will seem real. You're brain is wondering where the hell its fix is and it is going to punish you until you come up with it. 72 hours, that's all you need to get the nicotine out of your system. This is the only time you will go through physical withdrawal. Drink lots of water. Read, post, read and post. Don't take your anger out on your loved ones. We always tell everyone.........Make this quit about YOU. If you quit for your wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, kids, mommy or daddy, you will resent them during this period. Quit for yourself and come in here to rant. Yell at us. Bitch at us. We can take it. We've been there.
Days 4 through 20 - Here comes the mind games. The nicotine is out of your system now. You will still have some physical things to deal with.

Irritability,
Insomnia
Fatigue
Inability to Concentrate
Headache
Sore throat
Constipation, gas, stomach pain
Dry mouth

Your mouth is healing itself. Tiny ulcers you've had for a long time are healing. We recommend you visit your dentist around the 30 day mark. Don't be a pansy, just do it. He or she will be very supportive and they can explain the sores much better than we can. Don't let your guard down. Don't go out drinking with the fellas or the girls. We also recommend that you don't drink for at least the first 50 days. Drinking is a huge trigger event and it weakens your resolve.
Days 50 - 70 - Cruise control. Life is really good. You still think about it, but this is good stuff here. Some people may suffer anxiety attacks during or a little before this stage. Some doctors say we dipped to relieve anxiety anyway. Some people can push right through this, others need a little help. Talk to your doctor before you quit or immediately after you quit. They will know what to do. Some give Wellbutrin or Lexapro. Lots of people in the support community take or have taken these medicines and can help you with the affects. Don't wait till you get to this stage of the game to talk to a doctor. You'll cruise through this stage much easier if you know how to take care of the anxiety or at least know it's coming.
Days 70 - 90 - Late term craves, the doldrums, the blahs, the blues. Some people end up feeling like they are right back at day 1. The fog, the haze, the craves. It can be a tough time. You need to let people in your group know this is happening. Time to circle the wagons to get through it. It usually only lasts a few days. Fight through this and make sure your order your Commemorative HOF Knife or Coin.
Days 90 - HOF - Houston, resume the countdown. Enjoy the hell out of these last 10 days. You will be celebrating with your group as you all enter the HOF. It is a great feeling and an accomplishment you should not take lightly. Do something special for yourself and your family. They put up with your sorry ass for the last 90 days and they deserve something too.
100+ Days - Stay vigilant. Use the tools you have, to continue beating back any cravings or urges. You will still experience dip dreams and longings, but you are fully qualified to beat them down. Continue to post roll with your group. Get into the newer groups and help somebody out. Pass it along. Live the dream.

Ready speaks the truth. I am only 127 days quit but the funks are much less severe than they used to be. I believe the vets when they tell me it will continue to get better becuase what they have told me so far is true....

One of the best benefits is the money saving aspect of quitting chew....does anyone know when i can re-take the life insurance test and come out with results that show im quit for a less expensive premium. I am quit for 68 days now......will I be ok or will it still show I have dipped? :huh:

The nicotine should be out of your system by day 3 to 5. Have you taken an insurance physical lately?

Your blood will be clean, but if you had a positive test in the past it will need to be 3 years from that date before your considered quit to them.

The reason I ask...if you tested positive for nicotine...life insurance companies share information with each other through the MIB. If you haven't tested positive recently, you should be fine. How you answer the question, "Have you used any Tobacco products in the past 2 years?"...well, that's up to you! ;)

I think it depends on the Insurance Company. I was told after one year I could retake it and get the same as a no nicotine.

Legally, you have to be tobacco free for 1 year to say you are tobacco free. Technically, however, they will usually ask, "have you ever used tobacco". how you answer that will depend on your rate, as Greg, "I like to Fuck George Bush" mentioned in the last post. You have to be 3-years clean to supposidly get the best rate, however, if you answer that you previously used, you most likely will not get the best rate no matter how your exam comes out.
I do not think the insurance companies cross check to see if you ever reported a tobacco positive result. I think that's inaccurate.
From my own experience, I just got approved a few months ago for a very large insurance policy at "super preferred", the highest preferred you can get. This was 12 months after my other policy was taken out at the "smokeless tobacco" rate (yes Prudential differentiates between smoking and dip they were one of the few.
I will say that when asked about use of tobacco I replied, "no".

They, of course, died from tobacco related problems in the first few years of policy ownership. I would assume if it were years down the road and you die from other causes, even if they see on your MIB that you were in fact a tobacco user within 3 years of buying the policy, they would still pay out. My advice, don't talk to your agent, talk to your lawyer.

Agree lying is bad and I am not recommending it.
I merely answered "NO" to the question "Do you use tobacco". I do not.
Incidentally, it was my understanding that they would just hold back the difference in premiums between smokers and non-smokers rates should a death occur and the application was found to be fraudulent.

Great people, good info. so whats the deal with weight gain. my sorry ass stepped on the scale and i have gained over 12 pounds since i quit-----? Anyone else gain weight with their quit?

I'm only 22 days in and notice I'm gaining weight. I think its more from just having bigger meals or a snack after a meal that replaces my aftermeal chew. Oh well, with working out it will disappear and i'll be healthier...from both exercise and no chew

I'm only 22 days in and notice I'm gaining weight. I think its more from just having bigger meals or a snack after a meal that replaces my aftermeal chew. Oh well, with working out it will disappear and i'll be healthier...from both exercise and no chew
Think of all the times you didn't eat something beacuse you had a chew in. I never snacked when I was dipping. Now I snack all the time.

I put on 20 the first month. Ten months later its gone. It sucked but its healthier than the carcinogens you've been ingesting. Deal with the quit now, you can lose the weight later.
Also, exercise helps the weight gain and the quit.

Of course you are going to eat more when you don't have that shit in your mouth. What is so shocking? I think most of us put on weight at the beginning. I put on about 10 pounds......
I put on 20 the first month. Ten months later its gone. It sucked but its healthier than the carcinogens you've been ingesting. Deal with the quit now, you can lose the weight later.
Also, exercise helps the weight gain and the quit.
Actually started running again and lost about 5 of the 10. 5 more to go.
The benefits of excercise is well documented here. I have read in other places if you could take a pill for the benefits of walking/running it would be prescribed everywhere because it can decrease blood pressure, cholesterol, and possibly help reduce the risk of certain cancers.
Amazing, our bodies were meant to move.

SO whats the deal? i quit 75 days ago and honestly, was the best decision of my life-this site means a lot to me. Great people, good info. so whats the deal with weight gain. my sorry ass stepped on the scale and i have gained over 12 pounds since i quit-----? Anyone else gain weight with their quit?
Calories in must be less than calories out. Exercise is good, but cutting out about 500 per day is even better (and more efficient). Doing both is best.
I have found that writing everything down that I eat works wonders in making sure I don't stuff my piehole with junk.

The only draw back to P90x is that some people have to get into shape in order to do the P90x to get into shape lol. I wonder how many couch potatoes have gone into cardiac arrest the first week of P90X.

Be in shape is crap and an excuse. I could only do 2 pullups and 8 pushups when I started. I just got bands and light dumbells and went to work. Half of P90X is just using your own body as resistance.

yep, second that. It doesn't really matter what you do, ultimately you have to have a kcal deficit and writing them down is a great way to do it.
Many people have a very difficult time dieting and in my opinion (from my experience at least) if you're having a hard time dieting and regulating your calories in then you're doing something wrong. Kind of off topic from your original question, although you metabolism is directly related, just cutting calories via starvation will likely lead to the the opposite of your goals. If your body is starved for calories it will just lower your metabolism, storing a higher percentage of intake.
Try leaning out your food types, like chicken instead of meat more often or turkey and fish instead of chicken. Decrease you meal sizes and increase the count, eat six smaller meals a day. In the beginning it will actually feel like you're eating too much. Most importantly drink an excessive amount of water, by excessive I mean work towards an ounce per pound of body weight. That's extremely difficult and requires a regimented plan but in general if you can put down a gallon a day you're on the right track and will see a change in everything from endurance to body fat.
Forget any worries about needing to be in shape to get into shape, your body will provide all the resistance it needs. Try planks, push ups, go for walks etc. Check out the guys over in the exercise forum, there are some guru's over there that I'm sure can provide what works for them.

Yeah, dieting is NEVER a good idea. It implies short term changes to meet a specific goal. For instance, if I have a banana hammock photo shoot in the Caribbean next week (and I do), I'll crash diet to lose 2-3 lbs. No one can possibly diet for their entire life.
The people who jump in with both feet and make drastic changes to eating habits mostly fail. I've quit eating white bread, eat big salads for lunch 10 days a month, grab a diet soda every now and then and have lost 15 lbs since Jan just doing that alone. I still swill beer, don't excercise much, and grab a slice of pizza more than I should. Something like this is sustainable...next I'll cut out big beers and switch to light lagers to save 100 calories a pop.
Ease into it, make the changes gradually, accept a slower pace of weight loss since it is the long term that counts.

P90X really is great. I started it a few months back. what is really funny is I remember when I first started the workout, i would rush threw the last few exercises or skip them completely just so I could have my chew. Now that I havent had a chew in 22 days, I no longer rush the workout. I'm getting a better workout now that i've given up chew. That workout and quitting are my best choices of this year!

I am a firm believer in Mules Peanut Butter cup diet. well......maybe firm is the wrong word
I'm only 22 days in and notice I'm gaining weight. I think its more from just having bigger meals or a snack after a meal that replaces my aftermeal chew. Oh well, with working out it will disappear and i'll be healthier...from both exercise and no chew
the hardest part for me is i lost 80 pounds with the help of dipping. i cant put that weight back on. ive actually lost 5 more since i quit 4 days ago but im sure it will all start creeping back on

Bullshit. Dipping has never helped you do anything. If killing yourself and fucking up your life is a good way to lose weight, then you might as well do Crystal Meth.
I was in pretty good shape when I quit. I've gained 10-12 pounds in the first six weeks, but the last week or so, I'm starting to stop craving sweets and extra food. I'm getting my exercise on and getting my diet back in check. It will fall into place, but my quit is SACRED now, so I'll continue to apply discipline to my workouts and diet, but if my quit thinks it HAS to have a reeses PB cup right now (watch out for stampeding mules), it gets it.
Nice job on losing the 80 pounds, but if you learned how to do that with dip, than you'll be able to do it without as well. Think how strong you'll be once you've fought to both lose weight and to quit a brutal addiction. Shortly you'll be doing both? How badass is that?
