Hey everyone, I'm Jack. Been on Griz wintergreen for about 10 years and trying to quit before my wedding in August. Appreciate that a site like this exists to help. Looking forward to getting this done with you guys.
-
... getting this done...
That's the mindset you need.
No hoping. No trying. No luck.
We do.
And... if you really want to, you will. We do it everyday.
You need to spend some time getting to the "why and how" of posting roll with a quit group. You, i believe, will be in the new September '16 group. The key here is to get involved and stay involved.
It works, bro.
Ask me how I know...
AJ... 1,135 days Quit.
-
Thanks man,
I'll keep and eye out for the new Sept group.
Jack

september quit group (http://forum.killthecan.org/topic/11649440/1/)
Here you go bud. Post roll and start the journey to brotherhood/sisterhood.

Trying to quit FOR your wedding? You won't be quitting you will be stopping. Stopping is the intent that you will get back to the same old same old. Quit implies that you will wake up everyday, make the promise to yourself, your quit group, the entire KTC group that you will not use that day. We can only quit one day at a time. So, what is it? You have to quit for you. You can't quit for anyone, or anything else.
-
Looking forward to supporting you in September 16.
-
Started last night...
Au contraire . . you QUIT last night. 'na na'
Welcome aboard. Buckle up.
-
I told my wife I would quit for our wedding. Twenty years ago.
----- Look at my quit date.
You can't quit for your girlfriend, or your fiancé, or your wife. You have to quit for yourself. That it pleases someone else is a side benefit, along with a lot of other side benefits.
If you quit for your wedding, will you stay quit after your wedding? I doubt it.
Prove me wrong.
-
Listen to these guys. "Quitting" for a wedding. That isn't going to happen. You may stop for awhile, you may with luck even stop long enough to actually get married in August but I'm guessing if the reason you are stopping is for the wedding it just isn't going to happen.
You think 10 years of abusing your body with nicotine that it's just going to go away because you are getting married? Hell no, the nic bitch hangs on and I guarantee you'll be finger fucking that cancer can again unless you quit because YOU want to quit and not because you have some sort of event.
How many guys that dip said they were going to quit for the following reasons and how did it work out? Almost anyone who has ever used dip and tried to quit but really just went through a stop has gone through something like:
I'm gonna quit when I finish up my finals (last about a week)
I'm gonna quit when I get my first job (lasts about 2 weeks)
I'm gonna quit when I get married or before I get married (last about a week, maybe more)
I'm gonna quit before my first kid (last a month at the best)
I'm gonna quit before I'm 30- which turns into I'm going to quit when I'm 40
You get the point. When you are ready to quit because YOU want to quit then and only then will you be able to start quitting. Because if you are 'quitting' for an outside event then I'm willing to bet you'll end up only stopping because some outside event will bring you back to lippin' a cat turd again.

I appreciate all the responses and action!
For those of you who doubt me, I am quitting for myself, to be there for my future wife as long as I can, and for my future family. She did not tell me to quit or give me a deadline. This is for ME! The wedding is a milestone and a milestone only. I will prove you all wrong.
For the others, thank you, I will join the group and get started.

Post that promise early and every damn day, be a man of your word for that day. Anyone who wants to quit for themselves and puts the work in to do it can quit. I'll believe in you everyday you post. And for the most part we are all here to help in our own unique way.
Make sure to drink lots of water the next few days and read up on what your body will be going through. It's going to suck but it's worth it.
PM me anytime if you have questions/concerns etc.
I would like to hear about how you walked down that aisle as a quitter.
-
Welcome aboard JK. Honestly, best decision you will make. I dipped grizz wintergreen for 11 damn years, and I am now on day 32 of my quit. Push through the first few days that absolutely suck. Drink lots of water and post roll early in the morning. I won't tell you I'm cured, but I will tell you I quit every damn day when I post my promise.
There are a lot of perks to getting the poison out of your system. You will gain your freedom from the bondage that is nicotine. You will save a shitload of money. You will discover that you have more energy without it. You will sleep better, smell more, and learn to enjoy life without that shit. I quit with you today.
-
No one's doubting you, just trying to give you advice that will definitely benefit you. Oh yeah you gonna probably be a dickhead for a while. Bring your ass on here and bitch at us we're use to it and we probably gonna bitch back. Don't bitchat your future bride or your family they didn't force you to stick that shit in your mouth! Post roll, early, EDD ,ODAAT! Quit on!
-
Welcome aboard JK. Best decision you'll ever make.
These guys may seem harsh at first but, if you post roll daily a get involved, you will soon understand why.
And since you threw down "I will prove you wrong", you are pretty well committed to doing just that.
Shout if you need anything.

No personal attack intended. I've only been here for about four months, but that's been long enough for me to know that only about one out of every four new members that post an intro are here after 100 days.
I've also seen some patterns. New members that post in their intro that they are quitting for things like weddings, birth of a child, graduating college, are more likely to leave this forum within the first 100 days.
I used all those same milestones to quit, and none of them held.
I hope you're better than I am. I hope you prove me wrong. I'll be cheering you on the whole way.
Stay quit.

Hey Bro, your in the right place. KTC works. But you gotta drink the kool aide. Which to you means several things. First off, there's life and then there's your Quit. No milestones. No special events. No symbolic days. You simply decide and then do it. Theres Day 1. Finish that then wake up and start Day 2. And so on. Post roll first thing every morning. Let no unpromised time pass. Don't think about quitting for ever. That's too much for the addict mind to grasp. Let "One Day at a Time" be yourt slogan/moto. ODAAT. Do that and you will find what you came here seeking. Freedom. And I gotta tell ya, it feels damn good !!!!!!!!

Whew! It's quit time!! WE don't stop here. We are all about the quit. We are about brotherhood. We are about accountability. You have a group of supporters that are going be on your HOF board everyday raising hell and giving all of our support. We are the Samurai of September '15. We are assholes. But the group of us that are left a year later are family. I couldn't see myself being where I am without them. I definitely wouldn't have made it to my HOF without them. So now y'all are like are little brothers (and sisters). So we are going to be loud, we may seem mean at times, borderline abusive. But we do it out of love because we know it works. Get some contacts. You are going to need to vent at times and you don't want to do that towards your fiancee, well because she may not be the fiancee for long. Make sure she knows what you are going through. Explain KTC and the process here. My wife still to this day asks me about what she calls my other family.
Quit on!
-
Hey there baby September! How are you holding up on your day 2?? It sucks.... I know it really sucks. But we have all been there and it sucked for us just as much. We are still quit... And you are going to post every day and promise us that you are still quit! I'm here if you need anything. Stay strong brother! Xoxo

Not apologizing for what I said. I meant every word of it. It isn't that I have doubt your intentions are well. I have seen waaayyyy too many do it for the wrong reason. See, I am an addiction counselor. I have heard way too many of the (and I shudder at the wording) "My ol ladies gonna keep me straight". I have also heard "I have gotta do it for my kids. They need a dad." I hope you do make it and I hope you are doing it for you. One day at a time is the only way, though. There is no such thing as 100 and done or 30 and done. This is a life time commitment. So, without further adieu. Drink plenty of water and a little fruit juice like cranberry. Up your vitamin intake considerably because withdrawal plays hell on the brain and body. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Dive into the site and get involved.

JK,
Welcome brother. Glad you wised up long before some of us here (yours truly included). Now strap in and hold on, because quitting isn't for wimps. Nicotine is an extremely addictive insidious drug that will take quite awhile for your body to get used to dealing without.... in the words of some around here, it's gonna suck until it doesn't.
You see, while you been dosing yourself with grizzly for 10 years, ingesting enough poison to kill a small lab rat on a daily basis, your body built up additional dopamine receptors to bathe in that nasty stuff. Now physicians will tell you it takes about 72 hours to be free of nicotine in your bloodstream.... Let me be one of the first to tell you it'll take WEEKS if not MONTHS to shut down all them extra receptors. Think of them as tiny, pissed off addicts jumping up and down inside your brain housing group because that's pretty much what's going to happen if it hasn't already.
Now for the good news.....I don't think nicotine withdrawal has ever actually killed anyone (even though sometimes it may seem like you're gonna die if you don't get another dip). Just come in here, read, and post your promise daily. Assuming you're a man of integrity, that's all there is to it. Wake up, Post that promise, honor it for the day, repeat. Easy to say, hard to do, but so very well worth it. Freedom. Daily. Yours.
Welcome. You get the honor by virtue of timing to be the inauqural leader of September, 2016. Make this your group. Bond, and hold one another accountable!

Two days late, but congratulations! Hope you took some time to reflect on just how much work, effort, and dedication it took to hit triple digits, and celebrated with the new Mrs. JK! Just remember this is a lifelong struggle.....don't get complacent. I've seen bunches of quitters who did and lived to regret it. Stay vigilant, stay connected to your quit brothers and sisters! Solidly in your corner bubba!

Made it 1 year today, and while I no longer post everyday, I'm in here often when the cravings hit.
I'm so happy to have made it one year and I encourage anyone who is thinking about quitting to QUIT and if you are quit but you are hitting a wall, just lower those shoulder pads and bust through that mfer. It continues to get better with every day and you'll never regret it
