Title: quit after 37 years!
Post by: aristocraft51 on January 23, 2014, 09:18:00 PM
Hello everyone, my name is Kevin - I have been a dipper for 37 years - two cans a day! I recently found out I was going to be a granddad so what better time to kick the habit. Must admit, never really wanted to quit before. I have been dip free for two weeks, doesn't sound like much but it's a really big thing for me! I could dip while eating, sleeping, never spit - learned to hide it quite well, most people never knew I used. My wife has been very supportive but as I asked her - "what do normal people do? After eating? during the day? I feel like I am missing something, I am, snuff in the mouth!! Glad I found this site, hope as time goes I can be a help to others as I will need your help!!

Hey Kevin,
Glad to meet you. We are both in April's quit group. You received some info in your inbox to help you post roll. Come to chat often. Get to know the people that will help you stay the course. Make some friends and get your quit on.

You are not missing anything. That is part of the mind game that will be playing out for you daily. Keep your guard up. Deal with this one day at a time. All we have is today. Worry about tomorrow when it gets here.

Glad you are here Kevin...I'm on Day 11 and would not have been able to last this long without KTC...Dipping Cope for 22 years day and night..Posting Roll Call everyday has kept me strong. Took me a couple of days to learn this site as I am not to computer savvy, but I've got it now. Learn the PM Inbox. Stay strong and be active with your brothers here in your April Group.

I feel like I am missing something
Welcome and congrats. The truth is you've been missing a lot of thing for 37 years. At the top of the list the poison has been stealing your dignity and freedom. Not to far down the list the poison has taken 1000's of dollars and stolen countless hours that you should have been spending with your family. It's time to take some of those things back.

Let me make a list of all the good things the poison did for you in 37 years.

I'M SORRY, I GOT NOTHING! Quitting is not going to be easy, but it's so worth it. This is not a habit, your addicted to one of the most addictive drugs known to man. That's why you are still using after 37 years. 1 was to many and 1000 was not enough.

For two weeks you have been taking back your freedom and dignity. Smell it, taste it and feel it. Take a good look around my friend. The world looks a lot different without being lead around by a can of poison. Stay a while, make some friends. One day at a time and you can have back a lot of what the poison has stolen. Never again for any reason and you can keep it. Glad to be quit with you.

Kevin,
Welcome to the site! I agree that this is not going to be easy because after 30 years of using dip I believed it was as natural as breathing. I remember honestly trying to figure out how I could sleep through the night with dip in my mouth. Nicotine is a very powerful, addictive drug that can make a reasonable person into a idiot overnight. I cannot explain just exactly what makes this site work but it does. I finally came to terms with what I had become and realized that my peers on this site were the only one's that understood and supported me during the Quit. Do this for you and own your Quit!!!!

Great choice, Kevin. Don't "hope" to help others. Do it. How? By being accountable. This site is based on mutual accountability. When you step into the ring and go toe to toe with the Nic Bitch, it encourages others to do the same. Click around the quit groups section...not just your own group, but a few other months and years. ALL of those folks benefit when you keep your word.

YOU CAN DO THIS!!!
