Title: Just Quit
Post by: catalyst2016 on January 28, 2016, 04:09:00 PM
Hello all,

My name is CT and I'm on day 4 of quitting. I started chewing about 5 years ago. It all started when I joined my first golf league. My buddy and I were drinking far too many beers on the course and I discovered that throwing in a grizzly pouch helped me sneak through a 9 hole round with only a beer or two. So for the first two years of chewing, it was really only on the golf course. But slowing it started to spread. It was only on the golf course and playing hockey. Then golf, hockey, driving. Then golf, hockey, driving, work. The list kept growing. My wife is a doctor and I knew she wouldn't let it fly, so I've been hiding it from her for years. I am at a point now where I'm going through a can every 2 days. I made the decision around Christmas time that I would quit in February. I wanted to give myself a month the wind off the dip. Each week, I limited myself more and more. And as of 4 days ago...I was ready.

I'm feeling pretty good right now. The cravings aren't too bad. I've been working out and running a lot, and that seems to help. I bought some of the non-tobacco, non-nicotine pouches - but I haven't really needed to use them too much. My big concern is when the weather starts to get nice again. I'll be back on the golf course, back having beers with buddies, back in those situations that I use to LOVE chewing in. That's where I see this thing getting very hard.

I'm glad I found this site and this community that I can look to for support.

Thanks for following me on my journey.

CT - welcome to KTC. Here we post our promise each day not to use any form of nicotine for that day and we post in the morning to our group. You will be part of the May 2016 Pre-HOF Group (http://forum.killthecan.org/topic/11505241/53/#new). There you will have other quitters who will help you along with your quit each day.

At KTC we quit cold turkey. No weening...just dump what you have right now and today is your Day 4. There is no room for caving otherwise this site would be just a bunch of cavers and people coddling each other when they cave to try again. It can be a bit rough but if you want to quit, you will see soon after you start that it does work and will work for you.

Glad to have you here and I quit with you today!

Welcome Catalyst,
There are a lot triggers for me as well; coffee, working, golfing, fishing, drinking, being around a camp fire, driving, etc.
Be ready for every crave and trigger, with gum, seeds, candy, fake chew, toothpicks, etc. Also, what are you going to say and do when someone offers you a chew...
"If you fail to prepare, you're prepared to fail."
Proud to quit with you,

You will have to go in 100% to be quit for good, and it seems to me that when you refer to concern of caving when you hit up the golf course gives your mind an opening to possibly cave. This isn't a casual habit you're dealing with. You will be sorry if you try to Olay tobacco,
