Title: Quitting Today
Post by: Pheasant283 on June 28, 2011, 03:05:00 PM
Hi I am Pheasant 283, from South Central, South Dakota. I am 27 yearls old and have been chewing for about 11 years. I have decided that today is the day to quit chewing. I have not had a dip all day, so here we go I am ready to quit.

Welcome Pheasant -

Click on the "Welcome Center" at the top of the page and read about posting roll and then head over to the October Quit Group and post up. That's your group. You will get a ton of support and help over there.

By posting roll you are giving your word you will not have any nicotine today. It will get better...

You can do this

good to be quit with you, p!

stay active on this site for the next 3 days (minimum). the first three days are the worst, but after that the physical battle is over. granted, the mental warfare can be just as bad, but the first three days have earned the name "the suck" for a good reason. read as much as you can here. get onto chat and meet some folks (upper right corner). post in october and get to know your quit brothers and sisters. get to know the vets. the more people you know, the more accountable you are and the more people you'll let down by caving. (and the more people that will be there for you in times of need!)

if you're here and you're serious about quitting for reals, you ain't going to cave. you've got to take control of this quit thang and own it. take it one day at a time... just keep your promise for 24 hours by any means necessary.

then do it again the next morning.

Nice work, Pheasant. Glad to be quit with you today. As the cravings come--which they will--stay tuned to this site and remember that you aren't the only one out there fighting this battle. Think about today and take this one day at a time. Much simpler that way.

Pheasant,
Be strong and hang in there. I am on day 5 and today was the first morning I woke up and did not crave a dip. It will still be a long road but I have decided that with the money I am saving on chew I am going to buy myself a new upland gun. Just a goal and a little extra to keep me on track. Since your name would suggest you hunt ditch chickens, maybe it would give you a little extra incentive to stay off the crap also.
By the way love coming back to SD to chase those roosters.

Pheasant - As I've told others who are in the suck like you, embrace it. Clutch it. Cling to it. Love it. Eat it. Taste it. Feel it. Let it mesmerize you. This is the battle you are waging my friend. Slavery vs. Freedom. Nic vs. No Nic. You made the choice to be free. Nic is pissed and will let you know. But, as you know by now, it will get easier. Take it day by day. Stay strong. Reach out the vets and your quit brothers and sisters if you need to. Just stay quit. For today. Tomorrow? F*** that. That is tomorrow. JT

Nice brother! Today is my 8th day and because of your hard work, I'm promising you personally that I stand in solidarity and will not use tobacco of any kind for you. If you can do the same for us, I also promise it starts getting easier tomorrow and you'll never have to go through day 1 or day 2 again.

Pheasant, can't say I have the twitching. However, I'm dealing w/insomnia and night sweats. The fog is slowly lifting, but it's difficult to concentrate. Good thing I'm off work today and tomorrow. Hang in there Bud. We'll get through this.

I am posting this from the john as my ass keeps telling me I have to go, and then nothing happens. That has been the story all day. I've had the opposite issue when it comes to sleep. I've curled up on the chair and fallen asleep within 15 both nights. It may help that I've cut out caffeine due to memories of insomnia from the past.

It's amazing what your body puts you through to get back at you for your choices.

My wife thought I was drunk last night. I was punch drunk.

Welcome Pheasant and I am happy to have someone who is right in line with what I am going through. Sure others have quit and we have them to ask about shit, but to have a fellow quitter dealing with the same symptoms at the same time is nice. Just to make me even more accountable.

Today I have fought the cravings with sunflower seeds and gum, along with staying busy and reading post on here.

Tonight I plan to run when I crave (which will also help with the sleep thing).

Good luck right now, as I know you are fighting it at this very moment.....but your quit is stronger than the nic bitch.

Look at it this way:

If you have ever had the flu, or surgery, or whatever that has put you down and out for a few days then this is the same thing. Except the reward is this is saving your life and money. If you can make it through the flu "WE" can make it through this.

Check me off for all of the above when it comes to withdrawal symptoms. Can't sleep, can't take a dump, can't see or think straight, and have a dinger of a headache.

I'm winding down on day 4 and it seems to be getting better though. Except for the dumping, I'm starting to get concerned there.

Funny story - I cleaned out my car this afternoon and found a spitter that had been baking in the back seat for about a week or so. In the interest of science, I opened it up just to see how bad it smelled. Granted, it was one of the worst things I've ever smelled, but it still made me smile when I thought about it a bit. A week ago, if I was driving along with half a can of Cope in my mouth (a regular occurrence) and that was the only thing I had to spit in, I'd grin and bear it and deal with the smell. All in the interest of feeding my addiction, of course.

That's fucking disgusting. Seriously.

I'm sure there are others who caught themselves in the same situation and did the same thing. It feels damn good to know that I won't have to worry about getting anywhere near that nasty shit as a quitter now. Add one more thing to the list of motivators!

Dude day four is bad? Damn. How was day 2? I mean I am actually going through day 2 now, but i wanted to know if it gets better on day 3? I need some relief. Don't get me wrong I'm not gonna cave, but can I take advil for this headache? Am I gonna be a sunflower seed addict?

ya know what I mean?

Should we hit up the exlax?

What the hell?

Days 1 thru 3 were the worst so far. I didn't take anything for the headache, but drinking lots of water seemed to help. So did green tea.

Honestly, I think the pain of going thru the first three days has helped to motivate me more than anything, as now I know that I never want to go thru that again.

Yes, you'll use a lot of sunflower seeds. Fortunately they come in different flavors though, and except for all of the salt on them they're relatively healthy.

I don't think exlax is a good idea. However, I will be waging war on my intestines soon if they don't cooperate, starting at a mexican place right down the street from my house. Eating there always seemed to clear me out before, I'm hoping it will still work its magic.

Hang in there! This is difficult, because it's worth it!

Fiber one or Fiber Plus bars, fellas. I loved em before the quit, and I'm still chomping down 2-3 a day. Taste great, help with the munchies, and clean your shit out, literally.

The foggyness is setting in for quite some time some just be prepared. It usually starts to lift after a couple weeks or so. As for the headaches... I found that drinking a LOT of water tends to help but after the first week they should start to dissipate.
I Experienced a lot of twitching and restlessness and still do 3 weeks into my quit. My best advice is to go buy a couple of hand strengtheners and some stress balls and just squeeze the ever loving crap out of them before bed. Also, I started going to my local gym for a cycling class 3 nights a week because after that 45 minute class....my body refuses to move, let alone randomly twitch haha

If you don't have any numbers for those crucial times....GET SOME!
Shoot me a PM and I would be MORE THAN HAPPY to give you mine.
STAY STRONG AND WELCOME!!!!
