Hey guys,
I'm a 20 year old college student and I've been dipping for 2 years. For the last year I've dipped pretty heavily and at one point going thru a Grizzly Big Can (6 tins) in about 4-5 days. Yesterday I noticed several canker sores on the inside of my cheeks and lips after a week of heavy use. I almost entirely doubt they are anything more than irritations, however the discovery of these canker sores freaked me out at first and led me to researching oral cancer and all the nasty health problems that dip can cause. I've decided I need to quit now while the length of time I've been dipping is relatively short to avoid any future health conditions. Plus girls tend to view dipping in a not so favorable light.
Anyway, I just finished a tough week of exams and am now on spring break. I've decided that the first day of classes after spring break, Monday 3/14/16, will be the day that I start my journey and post roll. I know it's going to be extremely difficult for me as I have a somewhat addictive personality. I've been telling myself I need to quit for months now and yesterday was the day it finally hit me that I need to get serious. Hence the reason I'm here. I'm hoping that a community of other quitters will help me muster the determination I need to quit. I want to go into this with contingency plans for what to do when I get a craving. I'm a person who bases his life around structure so I think having a gameplan on my quitting process will help me be successful. \
Any comments, advice, or just introductions would be great! Looking forward to all of your support as well as hopefully lending my support to you.

My advice is to quit today. Right now. As soon as you finish reading this, dump the shit down the toilet. Then flush the toilet. Then find your quit group here in the forums- pre HOF June 2016. Then post roll, you'll find directions in the thread. Then post roll every single day, first thing in the morning. Make a promise to not use any nicotine at all that day, and each day after.
Honestly, planned quits do not work. Your addicted mind will convince you that you don't need to quit if you wait 10 days. Your canker sore scare will be forgotten. Trust me, quit today. And quit every day.

Seems to be a misunderstanding. Tomorrow morning I'll post roll for the first time for a full day without dip. I'm not dipping the rest of today but i dipped this morning so I can't count today as day 1. So essentially, yeah I have quit.

Welcome to the mfpc June Platoon! You can post roll today. You quit today. I quit today with you! You post roll on the day you quit. You don't have to go a day without nicotine to post roll.
Posting roll is your declaration to yourself and all of us that you are quit. You do this as soon as you quit, then every day thereafter.

Quitting today is an awesome decision blquit! Spring break will give you some time to deal with "the suck" that you are about to experience.
I wish that I had quit in college. I didn't quit until I was 49 years old. It's funny how you never hear anyone say "Man, I wish I had never quit dipping".
Post roll every day and connect with other quitters here. Quitting by yourself sucks. Quitting with others will keep you quit.

You are making a great decision. Before I found this site I tried to plan my quit, and or tapering down my use before my actual quit date. It never worked. I commend you for choosing to quit right now, and not tomorrow. Nicotine will never let you quit tomorrow. You need to quit today and worry about tomorrow tomorrow. That simple philosophy is what will bring you through this. Post roll and make a promise to the rest of your quit brothers that you won't use nicotine for the next 24 hours. Roll call is the most important aspect of this site. I can't tell you how many times during my quit that the fact that I made a promise to my brothers on roll saved me from caving. It's a powerful thing to know that there is a large group of people pulling for you, and who will be very disappointed if you let them down. We are pulling for you. The first few weeks will suck, and you will need accountability in order to make it through. Get some digits from your quit brothers and reach out if you are feeling like caving.

Today is the day I decided to stop dipping for good. 10 days ago before I read the rules I posted saying I was going to quit today, March 14. I did in fact go through with my promise to myself and did not dip at all today. I am quitting with a friend and have support from many friends.
To reintroduce myself, I am a 20 year old sophomore in college and I've decided to get rid of this nasty habit before it's too late. I've been dipping every day for 2 years and generally go through a tin every couple days At my worst I went through a Grizzly Big Can, 6 tins, in somewhere between 4 and 7 days. I want to quit before I start to experience any negative effects other than the gum loss and yellowing teeth. The appearance of my mouth along with a few canker sores is what made me wake up. Most people don't view dipping in a very favorable light either.
Anyway, today was tough but I'm proud of myself for making it through without caving. Tomorrow will be even harder I'm sure of it but I'm committed to stopping my addiction now while its only been a couple of years. I look forward to supporting all of you as well as receiving your support.

blquit, I'm new at giving advice on this site, but since I have made it to 180+ days nicotine free, I now have some credibility to share some insight.
That is great that you have support from friends to quit, and there are a lot of helpful people here to guide you to freedom.
Only by being committed 100% to quitting will you be able to stay quit, whether you are a can every few days (you), or 2 cans of CopeLC each day (me). Addiction is the same regardless of the amount.
If you leave any reservation or excuses available to continue dipping, subconsciously you will be tested.
WARNING: Going after a quit around the end of a college semester, is especially challenging. You will feel the fog, even with a can every few days. Just a heads up. Good luck!

BLQuit, you need to change some of your vocabulary. You didn't have a "habit". You have an addiction to nicotine, whatever form it takes. I see you corrected yourself late in yourt Intro, but we have to be clear - this isn't something we can pick up, then drop, then pick up again like picking your nose (I hope you've stopped doing that anyway). This is life and death.
You are either Quit, or you are not.
This is not just actively "quitting", though that is a part of this.
Being Quit is a mindset, that for 24 hours, I will not ingest nicotine.
Post up roll if you haven't already, and let's be Quit.

However, I respectfully ask that you refrain from doubting me on Day 1/2. I have never been more sure of making a lifestyle change and quitting an addiction in my life. I started my second day today and am doing great. My determination to crush the ever-lingering urge to dip is concrete. I may be new to this website and quitting dip, but that does not mean I don't have what it takes to quit just because my intro isn't strong enough.
With regard to my two different intros, my apologies.

Thanks for the support! I see what you mean about the difficulty of quitting at the end of a semester. One of the times I dip the most is when I'm studying and doing homework and that is especially prevalent during finals. I have confidence in myself that my resolve will remain strong.

We try to lay the groundwork for the long haul... a mindset that understands and respects, yet hates, the enemy... nicotine.

Ditto for me too. this place is not for the thin skinned, but we are quit. AND we are here to help you quit. We come here everyday, post roll, keep our word and protect this house. It has literally saved our lives and we don't take it for granted. We need you too. We need you to keep it going, honor your word and protect this house. That's why it works and that is why us addicts stay clean. there is nothing more I can ask of you except to post roll and keep your word, that is the price to play in our crazy house. I'm totally on your side and quit with ya brother.
Also, please don't just rely on your ability to quit, that is why this place is here. We all help one another. Lean on us heavily when you need too. I have never met a quitter here that wasn't willing to offer support. You will be amazed if you will just follow the trail that has already been cleared for you.

Confirmed cave here Mogul. He stated this in a long non sense addict talk in June 16 group. He has yet to post a day 1 with his new group or answer the 3 questions yet. He needs to get on that and back here now! Or maybe he ran and hid with a fat dip in his lip. Get the fuck back here and get to work on actually quitting and understand that you had all the tools and you told everyone here to fuck off. Apologize, take this shit seriously, and do something about this. Take your life back and quit fucking around once and for all. You have my number and Frazz's number. You have a couple vets in your corner. Mogul (a BAQ Vet as well) obviously has taken interest.

On March 4th, 2016 i made an introduction post explaining how I was quitting dip but wanted to plan it out first so I didn't jump into something I wasn't prepared for. Against the advice and warnings of the members that commented on my post, I postponed posting roll for Day 1 and went on a spring break trip. 10 days later, I "officially" quit and posted roll for the first time. My motivation for quitting then was my growing awareness of my addictive behavior and the discovery of two white canker sores in my mouth. 18 dip-free days later, I failed. I failed and received a fair amount of justified criticism, got pissed because I didn't want to listen to anyone, and left Kill The Can.
I'm a 21 yr old college student in VA with in internship at a company that is the best in its industry. I've been dipping since the summer going into my freshman year in 2014, just about 3 years now. On average, I've been going through one tin every 24 hours for over a year now. Personally, I think my teeth have yellowed, my gums have receded and appear thin, I often stay awake hours later than I should because I keep throwing a lip in; the list goes on. Aside from knowing that above all else I need to quit for my health and to take back control of my life, I want to quit for my girlfriend as well. She was originally okay with it but as our relationship has grown more serious she has straight up asked me to quit an I promised her I would several times.
I need to take action now or I'm afraid I never will. Although I've never admitted this to anyone before in my life, but I know that I am an addict. I've known it for a long time and have been aware of what was happening as I've descended into dangerous behaviors that go against everything I've always believed. I've kept all of it a secret too. My friends, my coworkers, my family; they all see me as a young man with a good head on his shoulders who doesn't get into trouble. I don't know how I've let myself become what I am today, but I've finally come to terms with the fact that I am an addict and if I don't get my shit together now I never will.
So today, I quit with you and hope you will quit with me and help me as I start getting my life back on track. I have too much on the line to continue ignoring my addictions and hoping they never catch up an impact me negatively. Any and all comments, tips, thoughts, etc. is appreciated. Feels good to be back.

Welcome back to KTC. But to beat this demon, there is no "attempt", there is no "try", there is just "doing." This seems a small matter, but getting your perspective right is important. Because nothing externally to you can make you shove tobacco leaves in your mouth. Nothing. You are in complete control of keeping nicotine out of your body. Nicotine is no longer an option. Tell yourself that as often as necessary.
That is going to seem scary. Your brain is going to reject it. Believe it or not your brain has been programmed by nicotine to believe that you need it in the same way you need food. Screwed up, right? The good news is that when you consciously reject that absurd notion enough times, your brain will begin to rewire itself. Reject it enough and you will be free.
So do this every day: Wake up, piss, then post your promise to all of us that you will not put nicotine in your body. Then get up and do it again the next day. Build a tight support group by exchanging digits, post often, support others, use live chat, read absolutely everything. Envelop yourself in quit.

I did the math and I've added 477 days to my quit since I last gave advice on this thread. If your girlfriend would like to meet a real quitter there are many on this website.

God damn - another drive by quit. blquit your attitude results in drive by quits. You don't want to quit for yourself. You want to quit for your girlfriend or to make your teeth less yellow. Awful.
Quitting for real means quitting every damn day.
