Title: Stronger than a Grizzly
Post by: kratebike on September 28, 2009, 10:29:00 PM
Hi Guys and Gals. I'm 25 years old and have been chewing for 3 years. I average about 2 cans a week. I know that can't compare to people that have been chewing for 25+ years, but it's time to quit.

I just started Googling how to quit and this place was my 3rd stop. I instantly knew I had found the right place. After 2 hours of lurking I decided I had to join.

Basically I started with that proverbial "Free Cope" from the little table at a college bar. I went from Cope to Red Seal to Grizzly to Longhorn. Grizzly Straight was always my favorite.

Many of my friends have all ready quit and are very supportive of my quitting.

I'm going to go check out some more of the forum.

Thanks a Ton

Welcome, Kratebike, glad you've joined us and decided to save your own life. I know it may not feel that serious at 25, but nobody knows which dip (or smoke) will be the one which gives you cancer, and it certainly can happen young. You'll also be getting rid of all of the other nastiness that surrounds tobacco, the spitters and the spills and the lies and the hiding, and on and on.

And definitely don't minimize it...quitting is hard at any age, and you do have a fight ahead of you. The fact that most of the people on here did it for many more years before pulling our heads out of our asses just means we're older, fatter and meaner than you probably are. You're not missing out on anything quitting earlier, just the opposite, in fact.

So first things first. Right this minute, gather up every tin/can/spitter/coupon/t-shirt that has anything to do with tobacco and build a fire circle and dump it in. Set all that stuff on fire, make sure it all burns to ashes, then piss on it. And never put any kind of tobacco or nicotine product in your body again. Not when you're having a good time, not when you're having a terrible time. NEVER. No matter what. And no other form of nicotine either, not even nicorette gum (nicotine is nicotine, and that's what feeds the addiction).

And come here every day and post roll call in the January 2010 group. It's been hard for every one of the thousands of quitters on here. And not one of us regrets quitting. Welcome aboard.

Thanks a lot Gump.

I already went around my bed room to do some "Redecorating" I even had to tear up an autographed poster from my favorite race car driver. He was sponsored by Copenhagen.

I have been reading lots of posts and quotes on here. So far, the most effective has been "Think of all the pussy you missed because you had a chew in"

Thanks again

Congrats and welcome. Be careful, Gump has a good idea about burning all that stuff but you don't want to get burned either. Haha! Good luck!

Welcome kratebike and congrats on the decision!

Gump is right, 2 cans a week or a day, 3 years or 30 years, addiction is relative to your situation. Nobody here is any more or less addicted that you are. Don't let anyone tell you any different.

And who ever came up with the above quoted gem, you should put it in your signature line. That is "words of wisdom" material.

Thanks A Lot.

I put all my tobacco related items in a box and plan to throw them out on Friday when the trash man comes. Mostly just some stickers and a pocket knife. The actual chew is long gone.

Redtrain, I have added the words of wisdom as you suggested.

Never fear my friend... we've got a replacement for that knife right here: http://www.killthecan.org/store/knife.asp (http://www.killthecan.org/store/knife.asp)

Believe me, I'll be ordering that knife come January!! I thought it was very ironic and awesome that I would be replacing my Grizzly Knife with an Anti-Chew Knife.

Not sure if I shared this one with you previously, but I used my HOF celebratory knife to dismember my neighbor's dog after a long night of him barking at life. It was a very empowering experience. And it still cuts an apple like nobody's business.

Welcome kratebike. Great stuff in here. Keep it up!

But as for replacement for all the missed trim...you're on your own!
