Title: Quitting
Post by: midcon on June 18, 2014, 05:02:00 PM
Hi all,

Glad to be here and hope I can give some insights and recieve some assistance with my journey to be nicotine free. I am on "Day 2" of being dip free and it has been a rough 28 hours so far. A coworker told me about this forum so I decided to join up as I can use any help I can get.

I have used smokeless tobacco (Copenhagen) for 35 years and its time to give it up! I've always had some excuse or another for not quitting that day, but yesterday morning I just spit out my dip and then: threw in trash or gave away all my snuff.

Welcome! You will find all the tools and support needed here to quit! First of all join in the September quit group by posting roll as day 2 today. Go to the welcome center and read all you can about who we are and what we do. Posting roll is your DAILY promise not to use nicotine in any form for 24 hours. Repeat daily right upon waking up. You will have a rough bit of time, but you will find it well worth it. If you need help or support feel free to PM me. You can do this!

Thanks for the welcome.... The fogginess and irritability are a real pain in the ass. I hope it gets better soon as it is effecting my job performance at work and my home life.

Midcon,

Brother I feel your pain. I was a Cope freak for almost 40, except for a brief stop for about 14 months in the mid 90s. The next week (or more) is gonna SUCK, but we can get through it together.

Saw where you posted roll (excellent)...stay on it daily...read as much as you can (lots of good info here). Build a network. Addicts helping addicts....

Proud to be quit with you today, tomorrow, and every damn day that follows.

Yep... I'm done with this crutch I've used for way too many years. I know it's going to get really dark before I come out the other side, but I'm committed to kicking this addictions ass!

Any day without tobacco is better than a day with. Embrace the suck. I quit with you today.

Well, last night was rough. Had some strange dreams and didn't sleep well at all. Had to cancel my jog this morning due to weather, so the day is already getting F'd up.

I'm using some of the Smokey Mountain mint pouches and it is really helping with the need to have a dip. Anyone used this stuff long term (6 months)? Just wondering if I'm not creating another addiction I'll have to break......

Good job,, if worrying about fake is keeping the poison out so be it. Keep the real out, that's your goal. I used the fake until the 40's and had no problem tossing it. Keep adding them +1's and everything will look different in a few. Quit with you today.

This is day 5 of my QFL! Can't sleep tonight so wanted to post roll early and get out for a morning jog. It seems I have a lot more energy to burn so I've been hitting the jogging trail harder than normal to help with craves/fixation.

Also, in last 24 hours or so I can't drink anything with artificial sweeteners anymore. They taste like crap.

Proud to be quitting with everyone here today!!!!

Careful on this bro ^^^^^^. Definitely celebrate the wins as they come, but don't ever think you have this battle won. That's why LOOT and Remshot are still around after 3000 days quit. It's never over. Just win each day. Proud to be quit with you today.

Day 18.... Just had my biggest challenge yesterday and day before. Made a 1500 mile road trip to drop off a car I sold. Needless to say the craves were rough once I started getting tired on drive back. Managed to fight them off with Smokey Mountain and candy.. Quit every day!

Nicely done brother! Kill it, one day at a time. I'll stomp her in the teeth today once for you. Happy Independence Day!

I'm with this guy. Great job. The heart is there. The mind will have to catch up. It catches up one day at time.

If you check under the hood of the vehicle you drove you won't find one spot designated poison goes here. Think about it.

Try to remember every second of this unadulterated hell. Burn it into your brain, try to enjoy it, it's your body healing. It will be good to look back on in the future as a reminder of what you never want to go thru again (a day 1). You will also be proud of yourself for the perseverance and staying the course through the tribulation. Hang in there brother it gets better.

Day 30: I haven't posted in my intro in several days so thought I'd catch up some... The craves have been brutal last few days. I believe it's mostly stress related since work and family have both been taking a toll on my sanity...LOL

I've been relying heavily on the Smokey Mountain faux snuff to get me past the cravings as much as possible. I've also been eating ALOT MORE than is normal for me and I've gained a few pounds in spite of stepping up my normal exercise regimen.

I went to see my doctor today since it's been 30 days and I figured any severe irritation from the Copenhagen would have faded away so doc could take an inventory of my gums and throat. Everything looked good except for a black spot in back close to jaw hinge. He thinks it's nothing and I'll monitor it for a couple more weeks to see if it changes any. Everything else is great!

Just read this thread...nice journal you have going. Congrats on achieving one month of quit; that's a huge accomplishment in and of itself and should not go without accolades. Keep doing what your doing...and that is finding ways to keep the nicotine out of your mouth at all costs. Breaking a fake dip habit (yes, that is a habit) and shedding any gained pounds is much easier than trying to beat cancer. Great job.

Day 33: The craves have been especially rough last few days... I thought this was going to get easier as time passed, but alas that isn't the case right now. If I sound like I'm whining, it's because I am!!! LOL..... The only people that truly understand the private hell that is QUITTING are the members here at KTC. I'm very fortunate to have found this group and often wonder if I would have been as successful with my quit completely on my own.....

Quit on Sultans! Quit on....

Good job. You're recognizing the craves and dealing with them. Way to tackle this shit head on. Keep up the fight and they will get fewer and farther between, then you'll just smile at the craves.

Day 50: has been almost 3 weeks since last update. The craves were tough from day 30 to 40 but have eased up some over last week or so. Have continued using the Smokey Mountain but switched to the pouches. I'm trying to ween myself off the pouches and I'm down to 4-5 a day now. It's mostly about keeping a can in my pocket now as I find myself reaching for it quite often. The dreaded "nic dreams" have started happening lately also. Except I've been dreaming about smoking and not dipping. This is somewhat strange since I gave up cigarettes 12 years ago, so it's really incredible what your mind can come up with to get more nic!!!

Stay strong my friends and Quit On!!!!!
