Hi everybody, I'm new here... I'm told I should post, ask for advice/encouragement, and drink a lot of water.. looking forward to beating dip for good!!
-
this is my second attempted quit. took a dip yesterday afternoon, spat it out and decided to be done for good!
-
That's great. So you're on day two. Go post roll with the October '13 group. You can learn to post roll by clicking here Welcome Center (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showforum=13) Take your quit one day at a time. That's all we can ask for and all we have. Yesterday doesn't matter and tomorrow never comes. Just don't go buy a tin. Get some numbers and start getting involved. You don't have to dip. It's a choice.
-
Patrick,
Great decision my man..........go to the Welcome center and read all the info. Post roll everyday, get peoples phone numbers to text or call. PM me if you want my number. We got your back man. It ain't easy but you can do it.
-
Welcome Patrick, Great decision on giving up the can of death. If you have any left in the can from yesterday, empty it into to crapper and flush it away. Toss the can far away too... Yes, I used to lick the can if I found myself stuck ... Ewww. What an ass I was.
Anyway, click on the pink "Welcome Center" button on the top left. Read everything in there, starting with how to post roll- I think you will be in the Oct group. Do that. It is your ticket into this brotherhood, and your ticket to freedom.
Shoot me a PM if you need anything.

Hey patrick, welcome! so tell us about yourself, when/how did you start, how long you been dipping, and why you finally decided to quit for good.
I see you figured out how to post roll, nice job!!! that aint easy when you're fighting thru the fog during the first couple weeks. Stay on this site as often as you can in your first weeks, and read everything you can.
If I can do anything at all to help you in your quit, just reply or shoot me a private message.
I'd recommend you drink lots of water like you said, but also stock up on lots of distractions for your mouth, like jolly ranchers, atomic fireballs, sunflower seeds, bubble gum, and fake/herbal chew. Fake chew has really helped me get thru some tough craves in my 200 days, I still keep a can around to this day. Some guys dont like it, but IMO, if it keeps you quit and doesn't have nicotine, then by all means, use it! its up to you.
Also exercise of any kind really helps the anxiety and irritability... walk, run, lift weights, shoot hoops, yoga, whatever you're into. Just find what works and find your quit groove.

Welcome to the best web site in the world to quit with. You have made the hard decesion to quit so your mind is right. The website only works if you want to quit for real and stand by your words. Posting roll is your way of showing and promising that you are not going to use or use at all that day(one day at a time). Get some numbers and put your big boy pants on. I will look for you in Oct.
dkite.

Holy cow...if you put your birthday in correctly it says you are almost the ripe old age of 19. So by reading through your intro you have been dipping for roughly 6 years...ok...now listen up...the majority of folks on here have been dipping for 10, 20, 30 years + and looking back wished to holy hell they would have made the decision you are making right now when they were your age. Listen to all the vets on here. Read the stories and look at the pictures...i would specifically direct you to the sean marsee story and watch that video. He was bout your age when i DIED of cancer from dip. And when you get the urge to use again, watch that again, and again.
Happy quitting youngster

haha Don't be afraid to open up on here. We are all strangers, and the only reason people care what your story is, is so they can spot issues that can help in the quit. There are lots of members here, and somebody has a history that relates to you, and we all have the same history of being addicts who kill the can and stamp the nicbitch to her knees each and every day.
When I got here, I didn't really want to share much either, but I did, and do, and it has made all the difference.

I'm with my good friend apple jack here. Would be nice to have that 25,000 dollars or so back. My daughters could sure use it for college, cars, whatever. Instead I thought I would spend it on poison. What a father I've been!! Stay Quit Kid!! In time you will remember what it was like 6 years ago when you weren't lead around by a can. You will feel better and better as time passes. The one rule,, NEVER AGAIN FOR ANY REASON!!! Realize you are addicted to one of the most addictive drugs known to man and can never have just one. One is to many and 1000 is never enough.
Not going to lie, odds are not in your favor. Only about 5% in your age successfully quit. How bad do you want it Youngster? You can very well be in that 5%, but you have to do one of the hardest things a 19 year old can do. Listen to his elders. Read everything you can on the sight. Learn your enemy. Your enemy is not happy you have decided to quit at this early age. It will do what ever it can to have you back. I quit with you!!

Everyone likes different bands and forms of fake just like preferences for the real stuff. I found the Smokey Mountain to be too fine, too sweet, and too loose. The "Minst Snuff" long cut was too waxy for me, but their pouches really had a burn and were cheap ($0.99 for a can of 25 pouches).
In the end, it's personal preference. Buy a few kinds and find the one that is right for you and that will keep you quit. I have a can of the pouches in my work bag for an emergency, but I didn't like the whole process overall. It was too simialr to the real thing which was creepy. I felt better using gum, seeds, candy, tea bags, flossers, and Atomic Fireballs (burn and last a long time!).
Figure out what works best for you. As long as it's nicotine free it's good!
(PS - I merged your two intros into one.)

I skipped the fake stuff just stuck to seeds and gum. I did buy a can of SM pouches just incase. I didnt mind them they have a good taste and lil bit of a burn. But like Evil said just keep the nicotine out of you so do whatever it takes.
Also this is your quit be very selfish with it. Its ok to be selfish in the beginning and do whatever it takes to stay quit. I avoided any social drinking with dippers. Now I can be around it but I never let my guard down.
PM me if you need anything or have ?
