Title: New sailor...here we go
Post by: NAVYnuc on December 28, 2011, 12:25:00 PM
Dear Readers,

Call me Shocker. Thats what the fellas call me on the boat. I've been in the Navy about 8 years, been dipping since 2002. The Submarine fleet is a wonderful place to be (in my opinion) and there is nothing better than a big'ol lipper while turning some wrenches (i'm a mechanic). However, I am a brand new father. My first child ( a boy) is 4 months old and I ... WANT TO QUIT!

But, dude, it is friggin' rough. I have stopped for months at a time before, but always picked it back up as soon as we came back home. Now i'm on shore duty, first kid, it is time to QUIT.

My plan is New Years day, I'm planning on quitting cold turkey, because thats how I roll. But because I already know how I do without dip for 8 weeks I am posting on here.

Sooooooooo... wish me luck, and let me know if you are in the same ballpark.

Your gonna get some info here real shortly. Understand they are trying to help.

Having said that, can you tell me why it will be easier to quit on New Years. I already know the answer. I have been where you are. I know what you are thinking.

Take it out of you lip. Throw it away. Take your can, empty it in the toilet, flush. Find you extra cans and fluch them down the toilet.

Go to April 2012 quit group and post roll call giving your word of honor that you will not use nicotine in any way, shape or form today.

Keep your word.

Period.

Anything else is just hot air.

If i sign the roll call, that means I give my word I won't use dip AND nicotine right?

I was planning on using patches to assist the quit, is that ok or should I work out a new plan?

I am currently most concerned with not dipping ever again, i'm cool with a patch for a little while.

Please tell me if I am messed up, screwing up, or if I am posting wrong...total nub here.

Thanks to all.

Read the links I sent you.

Yes, posting roll is giving your word you will not use nicotine. Any nicotine.

Cold turkey is the best way.

Don't worry about being a total newb and asking questions. We have all been where you are.

You can do this.

Post your promise now...

Dont wait till tomorrow

It does not matter if you screw up roll call.

Go to April 2012 and say " I am Navynuc, and I promise not to use nicotine today. Day 1".

Is it ok if I want to quit on New Years?

Like a 2012 resolution.

I really don't want to commit till my day, ya know.

We always need a good nuke to push us coners around. I understand your day after, but no excuse. Check your email and look in the upper right corner for "Inbox" and click on it. There are some messages for you to read. You nuc knucle draggers can figure it out.

You can quit anytime you want too.

But how many new years resolutions have you made in the past to quit?

I know I made that resolution the past 8-10 years and it never lasted until the next day.

There is never a good day to quit. But if you want to quit, why wait another minute.

"Your plan to quit is as realistic as my plan to win the lottery". There is always a reason not to quit. Dump that shit out now and quit today. It only takes one dip to cause cancer. Why risk it for three more days?

Where are your balls?

Is it okay to suck on cancer one more moment? Is it okay to concede, to tap out, to say "i just don't have the backbone to quit"? Is it okay not to be your own man?

NO its not okay. Dippy is right. This is failure.

You guys are rough, sounds alot like the boat.

I really do appreciate it, and please don't take this the wrong way, but I believe in the motivation of a goal date. The mental buildup and whatnot. However, you all are definitely more qualified than I to give advice.

You are right, I have made this new years resolution in the past. It lasted 4 months and then after 5 weeks of breathing the same air (LITERALLY) I broke down and threw in a lipper, here I am today, 2 years later.

Please bare with me, as I am new, but I'm sure if yall keep giving me sh1t, it will help. We submariners do better when our buttons are pushed.

I want to quit for my son, my wife, and mostly for my health. I am so so so darn tired of it, and at the same time I like it. I know all of you that are reading this know exactly what I'm talking about. If this is the right location I would like to vent. (is there a "vent" forum?)

No it is NOT OK to wait. We all are quit, you should be too.

How many times have all of us had a "Planned" quit that did not work. Many MANY times for me.

The only good time to quit is right fucking NOW!!

Statistics show you have a much better chance of actually being quit on January 2nd if you flush all nic and post roll today. I had plenty of quit dates come and go. If you want to kill the can...what are you waiting for? It won't be easier because of a holiday. It won't be easier because it's a new year. It won't be easier...

If you quit right now, you'll be doing yourself a huge favor. Come January 2nd, the nic will already be out of your system and you'll be coming out of the suck and dealing with mind games instead of just entering the suck.

This has been overlooked.

This is a 100% nicotine free site. Being quit means quitting nicotine 100%. No patches, gum, cigars, cigs allowed here.

You got this, Navy. Just make the decision. Stop thinking about it and go flush your can and any stash. Also, it's fine to let your family be part of your motivation to quit, but you gotta quit for Navy. If you quit for them, you'll start to resent them. Quit for Navy. Quit for Navy because Navy selfishly wants to grow old with his wife and see what his children become.

ALRIGHT BROTHERS,

I DID IT

HohYah!

Literally, I spit it out in the toilet. Then I flushed the 4.5 cans that I had. I've quit the nic-fix many a times, but i've never gone more than 6 days without a dip recently.

There is no way i'm letting somebody call me a failure, or "no-balls" me (must be a sailor) F this friggin trash in my mouth, I am TIRED of it.

And so starts me journey, keep this pressure on fellas, tuff love works. Beleve it or not, but it is tougher when you don't know who is talkin' sh!t to you.

Thank You Souliman for the ultimate no balls challange.

Navy, I've been dipping Copenhagen longer than you been around. I posted 74 days today. One of my sons (12 years old) wishes to be in the marines - that's the boys that guard your arses 'crackup' - We watch the military channel and see what the newbies go through (as well as the special forces). I always watch and admire..knowing these (you) boys are much stronger and mentally tougher than me. You got this shit! You are QUIT and I am proud to be quit with you. PM me any time. I spent almost an hour on the phone with NAVYnuc and he seemed like he wanted to quit but was also planning to fail. He did not want to be tied down to being online because he said he wasn't an online person. I gave him the lo down on how the site works and why it works and what would be expected of him. I have brought the horse to the water. I showed him how to drink it, now letÂ’s see if he drinks. Oh I also took him to the cancer pic page and let him look around. Doing a little shock and awe.

On a side note he is a bubblehed like me and told me that now more people dip in the Submarine Force than ever before since the smoking lap has been put out permanently on the boats. Sounds like DoD needs to step up do some splaining to all these MoFoÂ’s

Im still here brothers,

No worries on me, I was on duty.
No one I work with dips (at least that was there yesterday) so I had no temptations. Plus it is standdown, so I was able to even take a nap. Can't dip while you sleep (well, its not easy lol).

I was nic fittin a little bit but i'm still QUIT.

Just so you moderators know my IP addy will be moving between VA and SC for about a year, so bear with me, I don't want to be kicked for travel for work.

Keep on keeping on brothers. It feels great to know that you are all out there supporting or going through the same thing. Straight up, it is powerful.

Happy New Year.

OH and by the way, I got this shit.

What Mick in Stuart said helps. Submariners have some of the strongest (and MUST STUBBORN) minds out there.

And by the way shit-talkers out there. You ain't got nothin on the boys under water. But keep it comin' because that's what works for hard headed f-ers like me. Won't hurt me if a bunch of old farts talk shit, bring it on brothers. Maby in a while I can help a nub like myself.

Cononel - good luck to your son

DUDE,

I don't care what any of you dudes say unless you have over 104 days of breathing the same air, have beat down a dude X2 your age and X2 your experience/size in a fight for your status, and have trusted your wife for over 10 months (of devotion) AND........

directly played a roll in protecting america from another nuclear disaster...

What if I built submarines for a while? Designed parts I should say. Would that get me any props? How many patents would it take on UAVs or drone guidance systems to get some more rational discourse going about being an addict? Everyone here wants a single thing: you to be successful in your quit. That is all.

And you are welcome. For the support that we give without charge and that every single part I designed fit perfectly.

Private 1st Class Unique and Special Butterfly: "I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to. Oh, did I mention I am a badass quitter and this is all in good fun? Oh, did I mention I am awesome? And that I am sorry if you want it?"

Civilian Scowick: "Do you think your quit is special because you wear a uniform? Your sir, are a 1st class douche. Support from KTC is free but it ain't cheap "

I understand rage as much as anyone else on KTC... but is all this biggest dick stuff really necessary?

I suspect that you will be regretting some of last night's posts, once you wake up and shake it off.

But I for one, did not appreciate some of the images of our military that you demonstrated last night.

When you wear that uniform with pride, you also represent all those that have come before you... all those that fought and died for this great nation, of which I know a number that made the ultimate sacrifice.

So, consider taking a bite of humble pie today, and give these guys some sincere respect... we served our nation, and all its people, for the greater good... in peace, war, and everything in between.

Service is a privilege... not a right. Just as respect is earned, not requested.

I wish I could come up with something profound that would counteract the way I was speaking yesterday, but I can't.

So all I can do is man up and say I was a total asshole. I hope everyone can forgive me. I'm just a regular guy trying to quit.

With the upmost respect for all reading, I apologize.

No worries. Bring the quit. I Appreciate the apology. Nic rage is for real.

Just my opinion, but you might lay low on the booze until you get the quit under control. The rage is for real, you add booze and you feel like going ape shit. More importantly, booze lowers your guard. Just the kinda thing the sneaky nic bitch will exlpoit. She is maniacal.

Proud to be quit with you Navy. Raging is fun. Embrace it but protect your quit.

Someone smarter than me said 'Cavers find a way to cave.'

Don't go looking for a cave and don't set yourself up for failure.

There are no fouls on This board unless you cave.

You used this board just as you should Have.

And how else were we supposed to start a conversation about scrogging a manatee?

It takes a true tough guy to own up like that. Proud of you.

You're a good man Charlie Brown.

I saw you posted roll today and yesterday.

You're still quit.

Thats what matters most, of course.

Trust me brother, I know shit talking with a crap load of insert adult beverage of choice here in our systems.

The Army is infamous for doing so, but you just had me worried for a bit.

Now, lets move onto to your biggest and best accomplishments to date... you are DAY EIGHT!!!

Bravo Zulu...

This site will save your life...it saved mine...but you have to use the tool in the manner it was designed. Post roll, keep your word, repeat...that's it. Listen to the guys who've been around for more than a couple days, they know the hurdles you're coming up against. Read all that you can, and in the end just say "I don't do that shit anymore!".

You can do this and we will help you. Glad to have you aboard...I'll quit with you today.

Navy, no worries, thats how we roll. Quitting is like breaking a horse. That mofo starts bucking, slobbering, spitting when the rider first gets on. In time, you come to your senses and see that we all are trying to help because we want you to succeed. Welcome to the dark side, drink some more of the kool aid cuz it gets LOTS better
