Good evening ladies and gents,
I've been a dipper for well over 5 years. I like to justify my starting when a close friend died in high school, but I don't want to use that excuse any more. It was purely a selfish reason. I want to quit for myself. I'm not gonna let a can dictate how I operate on a day-to-day basis.
A little about my person life:
I'm 23 years old and currently in the United States Marine Corps. I'm a Sergeant with the Military Police and I've been in for almost 5 years. I'm also going to school with a major in Social Science Education and a double minor in History and Business Administration (always need a back-up, right?).
I'm really laid back and excited to get plugged in with this community. I'm excited to what we can accomplish together.

Welcome Schmuck!! You nailed exactly how I felt and the biggest reason that I decided to give up the can as well, not letting that damn can control my actions, behavior, and decisions in life. Keep reading everything you can here on KTC and reach out through PM to get fellow members' phone numbers. Take it one day at a time, hang out on the site and post anything you want to help you keep that nic bitch out of your lip. Quit on, brother!

Here you go for some motivation... If some Army fucking puke can quit, you saying you can't. Granted I'm only on Day 25, if I can do it you can. Now if you can't... well that kind of makes you a pussy, and a leg to boot. Just saying.

Rah! it's especially hard since half my unit dips. That and field ops are gonna be a pain, maybe I'll use my disgruntle-ness into something constructive.
Airborne, I can't have that now! I gotta keep up.

It's so hard cuz.............Half of your unit dips.....half of the world dips and smokes.....and half of my house dips. We always have the "because" until we don't. Change your thinking. Get your mind right. It's hard because it is damn hard......period. It's hard because it is addition. It's hard because if it was easy, I would not have dipped for 22 years. It's hard because I need this place or I won't stay clean. It's just damn hard. But. It can be done. Fuck you nicotine.
Get on with it. Stay strong. You got this.
PS - girls don't dig dudes with half jaws.....so keep keeping on.

You're right Ginet, it's on me and not others. So I need to keep that kind of mentality out of it.

One day at a time. You just have to make it one day at a time and keep that daily promise. Thank you for your service 'usflag' . You can do this.

You've barely started and already crying like a typical Marine, this is going to be fun.

Welcome Schmuck, former flyboy here (AirForce) if I can make 741 days you better be able to Marine! I work around dippers too, you just have to have mental strength to say fuck that! Quit with you today!
-
congrats on double digits Schmucker!
-
Schmuck - Get your unit informed about your quit, let them know you are serious, and let them know you'll cut their nuts off if they offer you a dip. Get them behind you, for real, and you'll have an extra layer of support.

You're only 731+ days ahead of me, I'll catch up soon!
LMM: They're a real great group of guys. They're really understanding when people quit and are really good about not going with peer pressure. There's been a few guys already that have quit their smoking/dipping fix.
DC: Thank you! Double digits is definitely a moral boost.

Welcome Schmuck and congrats on your decision to be a quitter! Just an FYI... try finding a fake dip like Smokey Mountain or some other brand... it will help you get through the first rough days/weeks. Lots of good folks on here to help you as well... if you need my digits just shoot me a PM brother. (I was Air Force in my younger days)
