Title: Just signed up
Post by: skyhook on September 23, 2011, 03:13:00 PM
Hello spit group..

Don't really know where 27 years of dip, chew, cigars went so fast, but I'm ready to give it up at last...never was a fast learner...I'm glad to find the forum before my total quit day on 9/26.

Regards to all you ex-spitters..Man that is nasty stuff isn't it?

Why wait until the 26th? Do it NOW. December closes out our quit group. You can be the last full fledge member. What will change in 4 days? Will you be more ready? Fuck no. You'll be 4 days more poisoned. What are you seriously waiting for? Dump your shit and click on the Welcome Center links at the top of the page. There is no better time than now. Let that shit go. If you quit NOW, by the 26th all the nicotine will be out of your system and you'll start the healing process. Get a head start, skyhook. Do it NOW. The NIC bitch is lying to you. She's telling you to suck her ass for just a few more days so she can convince you in a few days to stay with her. Cut that bitch off NOW! Flush your lip shit and post roll in the December quit group. You'll be glad you started, I promise you. It's hard, but it's worth it.

Wow that's alot of years with the can!

You'll find quite a crowd here! They'll keep you honest that's for sure! This group is saving my life.....one roll call post at a time.

I'm 42 days quit now.

I'll make a strong suggestion to you.......quit right now! No better time to flush that lip shit than this very minute. Flush it and post your roll that you will be nic free for the day! Keep your word......then post roll call tomorrow.

Stay close to this site and read your ass off! The first 5 days are gonna suck like you would not believe. Check into the live chatroom when you really get into a funk.....I used it heavily my first few days.

Serioulsy though......flush it now and post roll.......I tried the "set a date" thing a few times and always found some excuse to keep dipping. One day on a whim I just said "enough" and it has worked for me.

Glad you're thinking about quitting. Now stop thinking about it and do it. No need to wait until Monday. You aren't going to smoke one last magical cig or throw one last fatty that will satisfy you for eternity.

There is a group of bad ass quitters in December 2011 who are or were just where you are now. Flush all nicotine and go post a day 1 with them and let's get this done today. Too much can happen between now and some mythical quit date in the future. You can't quit tomorrow, only today.

Go read these two threads:

First: index.php?showtopic=5077 (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=5077)

Second: index.php?showtopic=5091 (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=5091)

This bad ass ^^^^ now has over 50 days quit. There's absolutely no reason to wait. You'll be just as scared and nervous about quitting on Monday as you are today. Don't think. Just flush and post roll and let us help you.

If you set a date its going to blow by like nothing ever happened. Before you know it you will be dead or at lease spend a fortune on the crap for another 20+ years.

The day is today. You already made the decision that you wish to quit. Don't prolong the stress and agony of waiting for a quit date. Just get it done with. I don't care what football parties you might have this weekend or whatever else might be going on. If you want to quit you will have to get through those without tobacco whether this weekend or the next.

Flush it and post day 1!

Thanks for the welcome, all you people who have reclaimed your clean white teeth..

I'm on a quit plan for that 26TH date and have my own personal coach (Angelic who I already have a crush on)..I'm on this mini-quit thingy and down to 1 dip a day since 9/20...It seems to be working, so far..My son is on the same deal and is quit for 21 days after 30 years on the can..He'll be calling me too to see if I ditched it..

Thanks for the support...

I like SW a lot too but have never bought one.

But I can NOT understand why you would be putting yourself through the agony of withdrawal for so long. You stop now, and the nic would by out of your system by the 26th. This is insanity.

Tell your coach to coach you without nicotine. You can't quit while still using.

I'd sure hate to do those three days at work. Much better to do them over a weekend. Besides, if you cave after using someone else's plan, you can blame them for your failure. Manning up and facing your addiction head on only leaves you to blame for failure. I sure hope you're back here when your current quit date arrives. Statistics say you have a much better shot of actually being quit on the 27th if you quit now, cold turkey, instead of waiting for the 26th.

He's still working on the separation agreement. He thinks they can still part amicably and divide up their shit evenly. He doesn't know that she wants his life and will accept nothing short.

Another thought: This site is far more than just reclaiming white teeth. White teeth will not prevent a cave. The NIC bitch doesn't care if your chompers are pearly white or sludgy yellow, she wants you badly either way. A quit has to be founded on a stronger base than just "white teeth." Until you realize the seriousness of the addiction and damage to health, the door will always stay open. So please, don't come in here and assume that the best thing quitting has done for us is "make our teeth white." Say hi to the NIC whore for me and tell her not to call me.

Holy crap in a bucket. What the flying fucktards does this all mean? Are you kidding me? Where's the determination? Where's the "can do" attitude? Where are the BALLS? Its takes only a single dip...one...to start the chain reaction of cancer. Now wouldn't that be a kick in the purse (the place where your balls reside) if one of these dips gave you the big "C" before the 26th? Addict addict addict addict.

Do you want to live? Ask yourself that question. When you wake up tomorrow look in the mirror and say these words "Do you want to live or die today"? Get that answer and let me know. You want to live, I'll fight with you every fucking day to get this done. So will every other addict on this site. But this ridiculous pussified attitude is disgusting. You're an addict. Accept that term and the burden that goes with it. Then dive in and swim like your fucking life depends on it because it does.

You want to live, come back and see me. Otherwise, don't take up any of my time and the time of these fine folks with your bullshit plan and crusty old silk panties of a backbone.

C'mon he's got a system! A system! A plan! A quit day! Got it nailed!

Just like I had it nailed every one of a thousand times I set a day, had a system in place, had my shitty little attempts all planned out..... Obviously that never, worked for me.

What worked for me was finding this site, promising not to use nicotine and then keeping my promise. That is what is working for me today, you should try it, the freedom is pretty dang cool.

Hey, glad you posted.

Q: Why have so many responded to you?
A: Because we are a group of drug addicts that get it. You by the way, are clearly a drug addict. I will quit on [insert date here]. The problem is that you made this statement in a room full of drug addicts and we can smell bullshit from a mile away.

Q: Hey guys, now many of us have promised to quit in the future?
A: Ok, EVERYONE, you can ALL put your hands down.

I know what this is about. Hell I have done it. Gonna cram that last weekend of drug use in before the quit. Weekend nirvana. Your pie whole is full of that shit right now. The problem is Monday comes and so does another excuse.

You know you are hooked. Quit. quit now. You will be so relieved mentally. Saying, I am Skyhook and I quit is hard. Damn it is a relief though. You think you have support now? Wait till you post up?

Seriously? You have two pages of nothing but folks lining up to support you. I certainly don't want to disparage another forum, but I doubt you will find a support/accountability system better than the one here.

You're certainly welcome to post here as well.

HOLD ON ONE DAMN SECOND CAPTAIN HOOK.

Give us a try. You can't buy the support we offer. You won't find the accountability system and the clear and unforgiving path to success that lives within this site. If you want to quit, that's what we do here. Nothing else. We don't plan. We don't "hope" and we certainly don't "try"....we quit. I suggest you give this a shot and learn the power that comes with this. It will change your life man.

What would you say to a loved one, child wife, brother, sister, etc., etc., etc, who was struggling with addiction and told you something so completely retarded as:

Really?

Come on....if you don't want to quit, half measures are kinda silly when it comes to an addict.

Pogue that's what it all boils down to bro...at least in my book. Do I love my kids? Do I love my wife? Do I want to be disfigured? Do I hate being owned? Do I have free will? What about my blood pressure? Can I do this for my dad?

No. It all boils down to a very simple question: do I want to live or die? All those other questions are the first step in the logic train that ends with "what do I want". For me, when I look in the mirror and I see that guy looking back at me, I finally realize he's got a place of meaning in this world. All the things he does, all the people he touches...are important. Making the conscious decision to kill myself with poison everyday is just not right. Not right at all.

The craziest thing is after a few days when that nasty fucking drug is out of your veins, your rational mind comprehends this so easily...perhaps too easily....which is where I am at. I have cravings but nothing my mind does not recognize as an irrational addiction craving. Nothing a toothpick can't fight off.

What sucks is that rational mind now beating itself up for years and years of abjectly stupid choices and behavior. In my particular case so stupid that I willingly chose to jump off an eight year wagon thinking I was safe from the demon. Now my rational mind has to wrestle with real and legitimate fear that I did not come to my senses in time.

It's not the cravings I fear or that keep me up at night. It is my own clear intellect that dwells on the fear and self-recrimination for being so fucking retarded.

Gotta be strong I guess. Being quit and scared is WAY better than not being quit.

Thanks to you guys and KTC.

As always...thank you.

This is BS...

Skyhook, My guess is that you will check back in here and read this so I hope you take note. I know you didn't find a place that works better because there is no such place. But you remind me of the person who gets a ton of help from someone for no charge but when it comes time to "get the real job done" you screw those that offered you the best help and sprout for the cheapest help.

I can't understand why you would risk your life when the best you can possibly find is right here. I wish you the best but your choices are certainly ill-advised.

If I could recommend one thing it would be to post at that place you chose over us and also post here for a while. Why not take two support options together? See what place really fits the needs of your addiction. That is why I stated that this is BS.

But ultimately if you decide to gamble your life away it is your decision and not mine. I will stick with what has worked for thousands of us.

Come on skyhook.

We know the feeling. It is scary to think about giving up the tobacco. I was scared to death of making the decision. The anxiety was almost too much to deal with. But I found this group of quitters and they helped me where nothing else could.

I know your still putting the shit in your lip. Don't get shy because we all knew that the quit date wouldn't work. We won't hold it against you. What we do deserve is you dumping the shit out and doing it our way this time so that we can help you quit.

If by chance you are still quit then post up and let us know why you are lurking around. Just don't lie about being quit.

Come in, the water is nice.

Honestly, if this site isn't for you, then quitting isn't for you. Quitting is hard, rude, profane, physically draining, insulting to the senses and just downright nasty, just like some of the people on this site. You know why all of these people are nasty? It's because we were all bull shitters, and as you know, you can't bull shit a bull shitter. We are all addicts. We are all of the same cloth, and we know what it takes to travel down that road of quit. Some of us are a mile down the road, some are on the other side of the country, but we are all quit, and we feel your apprehension. Once you post up, you will see that the tone of the posts will change to nothing but support unless you are in need of some tough love at that moment. Let's do this, man. We'll be there for you but you have to do the heavy lifting.

This is also a key note.

It is tough and grueling. We can't quit for you but we can be your spotter so to speak. You let us know when your in trouble and we can help you. But you have to take the plunge and throw dump that dirt out.

The thing you must take note of is the people trying to help you. We all were in your position at one point but we are all quit now. You want it too? Come get it. If I can do it so can you.

Whether nicotine dependency was established and/or maintained by being chewed, smoked, drank, snuffed, sprayed, swallowed, sucked, licked or patched, in the end there is only one way out - no nicotine today.

Rip the patch and quit. Right now, your just giving your money to big pharm instiead of big tobacco. It will suck just as bad when you get off the patch as when you get off the can.

Where is medstudent? I need some help!

If you were down to one dip per day, I would think 11 pieces of gum has increased your nicotine intake. All you are doing is prolonging the bad stuff. You could flush the nic and the bad stuff will pass in a few days. Otherwise, you're going to be uncomfortable the next eight weeks and then go through the suck if/when you actually stop using nic.

Just keep in mind that we don't stand to profit if you utilize our plan. Our motivation is to help you get quit, not keep you spending money on nicotine.

Newsflash. If you have nicotine flowing through your body, then you are NOT quit. I was on the lozenge for three years, telling myself I was quit. You're addicted to the nicotine, not the dip. Your first day of quit will be when you flush all nicotine containing products down the drain and start your healing process. Until that time, do not insult any of the addicts in here with your talk about "being quit using NRT". Nobody buys it.

Still watching from the treeline. I guess that means he's thinking about doing it for real. It's gotta be tough since right now he plans on using for another "8 weeks", our way means now. I think he can do it. Who wants to chew gum for the next 8 weeks, already tossed the dip, why not toss the gum and do it for real.

You've got support if you chose to man up.

We are living proof that it can be done.

I used nic gum for seven days. It did not make quitting easier. It prolonged the agony.

We know the thoughts in your head right now. We were all scared shitless thinking about never having our "friend" tagging along with us anymore at work, driving, hunting, watching tv, etc. Heck, how do you think Magnum felt knowing no more nic after ghey sex?

The truth is that nicotine is not your friend. Nicotine will do or say whatever it takes to convince you to use for one more day. That's why we say "no" TODAY. You will never regret making the decision to quit TODAY.

I just did a little research.

An average can of chewing tobacco is 3.4% nicotine. For 1 ounce of chewing tobacco (or 1 entire can of shit), that is approximately 964 mg of nicotine.

If you chewed a quarter of a can a day (2 cans a week), that's 241 milligrams of nicotine a day. That breaks down to 120 pieces of gum a day at that level. If you split that quarter of a can into 8 small chews, that is approximately 15 pieces of gum per timy chew from the can.

Here's the other issue: that 170 count box of gum contains 340 mg of nicotine. This is approximately 35% of the amount of tobacco in a can of chew for $42 more! It would take 482 pieces of gum to equal one can of chewing tobacco!! That is now $115.68 you have paid for the same amount of nicotine you were buying before for $5!!!

Why would you torture yourself by limiting your body to just enough nicotine to keep you addicted, but not enough to satisfy one craving? That's insane. I know nicorette has effective marketing, but this quit procedure does not work. How can just enough nicotine to keep you addicted make your quit suck less?? Look at the numbers. It is a mentality that may be keeping the chew out of your lip, not some overpriced inneffective piece of poison. I've done the "1 chew a day" thing too. I ended up playing "how much can I stuff in my face at one time" game.

WE'RE NOT HERE TO SELL YOU SOMETHING. WE ARE HERE TO HELP YOU. WE HAVE ONE PRICE FOR OUR SERVICE: QUIT.

If you pull the bandaid off now, it will take 3 days for that shit to be out of your system. You can do this now, or you can do this in 8 weeks. Either way, you still have to step off the ledge sometime. Then, instead of having to pay $47 for a 170 count box of gum, you can pay $.05 ($8.50 for a 170 count bucket) for a piece of bazooka and you get an awesome little comic (with each one!!) to go with it.

Skyhook, we've all held onto crutches here. We aren't going to be mean if you grow a pair and decide to quit. We've all been there. We know what you're going through, what you will go through, and we can advise you what's worked for us. Do you really want to put all your eggs into 1 coach's basket, or take a chance with thousands?

PS Doesn't that nicotine gum taste like pre-chewed wintergreen gum? The thought of chewing it again disgusts me and I haven't had it since 2004.

It is tough man. No, really it is fear.

You are afraid to quit so you are hiding from the quit behind the same addiction you tell us you are escaping. My friend, you need to beat the addiction not the oral fixation. If you must, buy some of the fake dip and use that for the rest of your life if you have to. This whole gum thing ain't gonna work. You can NOT beat an addiction by feeding your addiction.

Beat the fear. Own it. Ditch the gum and let us help you actually quit rather than continue to stuff your face and pretend its something better. You need this.

Don't be afraid, we all were but now look back and wonder why we didn't do it sooner.

Ummm WP,

Your numbers are so far off I got a chuckle out of it. I know what your intentions were but you used the % nicotine by dry weight. Since tobacco is almost 50% moist in the can you didn't account for that.

You need to look at how many MG per gram or mg/g. http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm4819a3.htm (http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm4819a3.htm)

On that list Skoal measured an 11 mg/g as the highest. So at 34g per can of chew you are looking at 374 mg per can.

I will let you take it from there but the above numbers are correct.

Yeah, after I posted that I started doing the research.

I realized how duplicite the tobacco companies are, and why we all run in circles looking for some sort of sanity in our quits. I was so quick to run with the stat of chewing tobacco being 3.3% nicotine. Glad I made ya laugh.

I discovered it when I was trying to create a chart trying to get the equivalent chew to cigarette to gum ratio. I was way off there, and have been researching it since.

I ended up running with the old 1 can of chewing tobacco equals 60 cigarettes (as I found quoted in many quitting websites). Each cigarette is approximately 1-1.5 mg of nicotine (as I found at Nicorette and quitting websites). This is the only way to make the numbers aline. Some places said that a 2 can a week addiction equals a pack and a half a day of cigarettes.

I found out that 11 pieces of 2 mg gum equals a quarter of a can of chew (or 15 cigarettes). Unfortunately, this makes the total nicotine in the can 90 mg, so the numbers are skewed again. If I go with 34 mg per can, that makes the 11 pieces of gum equivalent to two-thirds of a can (or 15 cigarettes in this instance).

I've gone cross eyed.

Yeah, if it helps you out in your quit then go for it but you are over thinking this WAY too much.

In the popular brands skoal, grizzly, cope, kodiak... there are 34g per can. In each gram there is between 7-11 mg of nicotine and a lot of variable in between. You don't need any other numbers than what I gave you to figure out your calculations. You have some crazy thing going with percentages that means nothing in terms of finding out how much dip is equal to cigs or gum.

Lets go by rough averages: 1.5 mg in a cigarette x20= 30mg per pack

Dip 9mg per gram= 34x9 = 306 mg per can.

HOWEVER,

Cigarettes are normally rated through a system where a machine "inhales" them and the contents are then analyzed. A lot of the nicotine is lost and not accounted for. Just as in a dip, no all of that nicotine gets absorbed, in fact, most of it does not because not all of it gets pulled out and put in the blood stream. I have heard that cigarettes contain near 5mg but only a small portion of that makes it to the blood stream.

So again your numbers are never going to be consistent as the amount of time in the mouth, the amount of saliva, and all sorts of things are taken in to account.

Don't beat yourself up over it. A dipper is going to get about twice as much nicotine if usage is similar. Numbers just don't work when trying to compare this as too many other factors come in to play. You can however fairly accurately compare two dippers based on brand and quantity.

I am going to edit this in: http://www.boston.com/yourlife/health/o ... _nicotine/ (http://www.boston.com/yourlife/health/other/articles/2006/08/30/cigarettes_pack_more_nicotine/)

Notice they use the word "yield" in there. What that means is that is the actual nicotine content that was captured on a smoking machine. Again, the actual nicotine content in a cigarette is much higher but through many factors this is about what the user will get in the blood stream. I don't think it is possible for them to get a measure of what a dipper gets but I would suspect it would be some where in the 3-6 mg range per gram.

I'm an engineer and a statistician, and even I'm not seeing the point of all this.

Here's a much simpler statistic for you. This guy in one of the cancer vids started dipping at 13, lost his jaw ENTIRELY to cancer when he was 17. Now he drinks all his meals. Milligrams this and cubic centimeters that. Nearly all of us have dipped longer than 4 years.

Again, for clarity. 4 years.  13 to 17. Cancer. No jaw.

Just quit.

I think you fuckers have too much spare time.

4 years. 13 to 17. Cancer. No jaw.

Just quit.
I hear you guys, that is why I said that WP that if it helps him in his quit I will jump in and any have the conversation with him.

I agree that nicotine content and all this bullshit is not worth much but some people have different resolve in their quit.

BTW...

Where is this skyhook moron?

Fucker is probably sucking the nic bitches tit as we speak. This guy got more good help from us than any "coach" will possibly give. My guess is his coach is also sucking the bitches tit.

This my friends is what a nicotine addict who is too much of a pussy to quit looks like.

His name is Skyhook and he is a slave. To quit he first gives us a "quit date". Then when quit date comes around and we all pressure him for roll post he admits that quit date DID NOT WORK and he is still eating her out. When told that cold turkey is the only way he gives us a promise of 8 weeks from now... EIGHT FUCKING WEEKS?! Lets just ignore his bullshit about "I found a site I like better".

I knew this was a crock of shit from the start but I didn't know it would end up looking like this.

Among all of this Skyhook proves everything we all know. An uncommitted fool makes a terrible quitter. Patches, gum, acupuncture, blah, blah, blah....

All of those distractions are for people who are too afraid, not man enough, and not brave enough to actually quit. Why do we waste our time with idiots like Skyhook.

This moron had the best quit help and decided to kill himself instead.

If I could rewind the clock back to January 5th, 2008 I'd immediately type in killthecan.org. That was the date I put down the can and picked up the lozenge. It was a 12 week program. That turned into 20 weeks. then 30. Then I was going to Sams Club to buy lozenges in bulk. 3 years and 6 months later I'm in Kuwait with no way to get lozenges, and a pretty little bitch with a short skirt named Cope called me over for a quickie. You are never quit if you have NIC in your system. You will rationalize replacing one form with another and go around in circles. Cut free from the nicotine roundabout and get on the freeway to freedom.

I see you still check in. How is my unique and special butterfly? Is the gum good? Just think, in 8 weeks you will arrive at phase 3 of your quit plan. What is it? 1 mg gum? You got this.

Post up when your hair brained scheme does not work out. Trust me, our plan works.

The thread has been closed per your request. That said, you're the one that came looking for support. No one here did anything other than what we always do.

SUPPORT QUITTERS

I don't wish "luck" on quitters because I feel that a successful quit has nothing to do with luck.

That said... good luck to you sir. If you won't use 9,000+ supporters to help you, you're going to need it.
